  1. Byrne was a knob, end of, didn't actual do much once he signed last season did he, let's just forget him and move on please. All this chat that we would be top of the league if we were playing him is just plain childish twaddle. Football is a team game, best played with a good team spirit

Thought Gardner actually had a decent game today, especially first-half,  and I’m not a massive fan. His confidence has grown this season in terms of pulling the trigger from outside the box and he made some good forward passes in the opening 45.

Coke is a raffle winner. Would unironically take Whittaker over him - thought he was Macc’s best player by far. His movement going forwards impressed me a lot considering his age.

Not too concerned by Bunn’s demeanour tbh as thankfully Rhodes is very vocal.

I thought Gardner played some rather risky balls in defence, he can over complicate things at times, maybe there is no one working off him, he played three very loose balls in the first half when he could have played a simple clearance, he's far better when he's farther up field, other than that he played very well. Surridge  in the opening 15 minutes showed some great pace and they didn't know how to handle him, he will be a very good player. Miller when fully match fit will be a beast in this division. Iverson again is a very promising goalkeeper, his main weakness being distribution  ( Jonny spoiled us last season for distribution ). Overhaul a better game then of late against a very poor team, perhaps the worst team that I've seen in many a year!

He is, people boo him when he comes on. Maybe hates a bit strong but, still it's pathetic the abuse he gets. I thought it was a great comparison, truly shows how ridiculous some of our fans can be.

Firstly I must point out that I don't like Banks as a player, and we have better options, but I do think he is directly suffering from lack of confidence caused by the fans reaction to him, yes he rarely tackles and doesn't offer any defence qualities at all, fails to track back effectively without looking like a liability, but he can ( sometimes ) create a telling pass. I feel sorry for the lad, no one goes onto the field to look a complete arse. We are Latics and we must have a boo boy, we always have had one and always will....

  4. My whipping boy so far this season as got to be Gerrard, his clearance for the first goal, when he had all the time in the world to put it out for a throw in but sliced it out for corner. We have two decent young centre half's in Stott and Edmunson who have better pace then Anthony, Even Clarky not been on top form so far this season. Shez seems to be panicking under pressure in his playing players out of position their natural positions, it's not the time to experiment!

I was impressed with Gyamfi and Garner on their first showing, Ryan McLaughlin as been the stand out performer so far this season, Fawns looks promising, Holloway as a least put the effort in and generally put a shift in al be it a bit aimless.

Now, when it comes to Banks, words fail me, a complete waste of a shirt, no balls, no bite, no passion and no idea ( o.k. I did have some words ). Flynn not much better. At least with Fane in mid field we have a bit of bite and passion though he is a little raw but I think he will develop with time.

I've been following Latics for 46 years and I've seen both great teams and some shit teams and this team and it's make up is bordering on the shit team ( or is that to kind )!

Thankfully there is a long way to go this season, but if it doesn't change this might be my last, I can think of better things to do with time and money,  I put more effort in walking to the ground then some players do on the pitch.

  5. Great hard working , hard won performance against a pretty good side.

Missed a couple of good chances too - Clarke nearly extended his gap at the top of the goal scoring table and Ginger Prince was very close.

Great goal from banks and he and everyone else did a good jo of chasing lost causes tonight and putting hem under pressure.

Felt more comfortable than the Coventry game at the end.

Ngoo - best performance yet and genuinely had a good impact.

Erwin did OK as a target man - and thought he matched AH recent performances....but but but, twice he missed the opportunity to lay across an early ball into the box to create a great goal scoring opportunity.

I can't see where all the anti Erwin comments come from, the lad worked is balls off and put a real shift in, my man of the match, Ngoo far better player than most think on here, actually he has very good feet and caused them assorts of problems when he came on. Defence seemed comfortable only one of their many corners caused us a problem. I thought the ref was very lenient with the Charlton players, their No. 15 ( Konsa ) a right little mouthy, irritating bastard.

  6. To me the game changed when O'Neill was pushed forward early in the second half for a 10 to 15 minute spell, his speed and play in that spell was outstanding, when 3-1 up we sat back and let them come at us, our defence through out the game looked fragile ( surprisingly ) Gerrard to me looked a liability, lacks match fitness and seems to be on a very short fuse at the moment. Brian Wilson seemed to struggle as a full back in the second half and was ripped to pieces several times, he needed support and didn't seem to get it.

Overall to very poor teams, trying to play pub football ( no insult to pub football ) on a poor Sunday league pitch, we could easily have been 1-3 down at half time through failure to close players down.

Players who put a shift in:- Ripley, Clarke, O'Neill, McLaughlin ( very good goal ), Holloway, Flynn to some extent, the rest very so so ( being polite ).

  7. As long as it's not that fraud Tony P I'll be happy now we've got a decent assistant on board. Hope O'driscoll has sorted some players out.

Disgraceful post, Tony is a brilliant servant of our club and is also a perfect gentleman and will always take the time to talk to any fan, please respect what he has done for our club over a long period of time. Being a football manager is rather an unstable and possibly a very short career path and if you are a family man may not be the wisest choice.

  8. MK going down has spoilt League 1 this season - without doubt the worst away possible. What a truly :censored:ing horrific club. People who support them need sectioning.

Anyway, Accrington and Oxford would be good additions - Stanley are a guaranteed sell-out. Charlton and Bolton are good as well. As much for the fact they'll probably both be poor as well as them probably being good aways. Bolton away when we're flying would be brilliant. Would like to see Wimbledon promoted too. Would be a story with MK here, but then again all of the 4 teams in the League 2 play-offs are genuinely big clubs for this level, so an away game at a reasonably full ground will be decent, and all will bring a fair sized following here.

As for League 1, don't care really, although Blackpool on a reasonable day would be very good. Although I reckon they'd be half decent next season as a team. As long as the team that stays up are :censored:e I'm happy.

People who support them need sectioning. I don't think that's fair to people who have mental health problems, I agree with everything else said, just hope we can send the franchise back where they belong...

  9. Coleman is a very good young goalkeeper and a tremendous prospect, he will make mistakes and he will learn from them, he was a revelation last season, earlier this season we had a very poor defensive set up which to say the least had no confidence, this lack of confidence also affected the goalkeepers, make a mistake and the other ones put in, no real run of games to build your confidence back up, Shez's sorted that out by standing by Coleman. MOM against Walsall for me, four important saves/interceptions early on to keep is in the game.

  10. It turns out the Office for National Statistics (ONS) looked at one part of our borough – focussing just on centrally-located wards near Oldham town centre.

Big districts like Royton, Shaw, Failsworth, Chadderton and Saddleworth (just named one of the best places to live in the UK) weren’t included, which explains a lot.

The part of Oldham surveyed was those wards we historically know to have socio-economic problems, like Alexandra, Coldhurst, St Mary’s, Waterhead and Werneth. They’ve long been our areas of highest deprivation and we’ve never denied that. Well as they say there are facts and there are facts, plus the data was from 2011.

( most of this copied and pasted ).

  11.

Fantastic news on my future as I can announce that I have now been appointed as the Executive Chef @OfficialOAFC

I thought it said Executive Chief at first! A very positive move for the club, but don't feed the players they would all end up with arse's like Gregan's ( surely the biggest arse in football, now that's a good talking point ).

  12. I've never read so much :censored: in my life, why would anybody stop going to their football club, the club that your supposed to love, because of a new untried manager

We've had untried managers before, like Joe Royle, Jimmy Frizzell, Ian Dowie ( excluding is QPR caretaker role ),John Sheridan, Paul Dickov and the little :censored: Johnson were all given their first managerial role with Latics ( in order of my personal preference of their abilities ), did any of us stop going because of them not be tried and trusted managers!

  13. Winchester was far and away the best player on the pitch......it seems to me that LJ has built a team full of 7 out of 10 players who will work hard and be pretty consistent if only we could find that Harkins/Baxter type to finish it off......Winchester could be that player, silky on the ball, can find a pass if only he had a bit more belief!

Dieng was class as well after a bit of a shaky start (along with the whole team)

Well done LJ (although I think it was more down to Tommy Wright) for changing the system to 4-4-2 and we scored 2 goals within 5 mins of that happening.

Rolando showed what he can do when he had the fullback to beat and 40 yards to run into he turned back and kept possession........no thanks

Forte will be a great threat once the team understand how to use his pace and look for the ball over the top

On a personal note was great to see Sean Jarvis there and have a catch up....top bloke

Alan Hardy looking fit and well

And Big Les Pogliacomi who was looking well......reckons he would have got a hand of JCH's goal!! Lol

Winchester was reading the game better than anyone else today, plenty of times he put himself in to space and his team mates failed to spot him! Seems to have grown a little too.

JCH apart from a brilliant goal was off his game today, I know he was on his own up front, but his first touch today was poor.

I like the way Elekobi took command of the defensive line when he came on, that is some impressive power unit and his experience would hopefully rub off on the younger lads.

All in all apart from first 10 - 15 mins a good display, it doesn't look to bad a team, if we can get a few wins under our belt early on it might be an interesting season.

Now when do we play Liverpool in the cup?
