If that’s true I guess he was desperate to get out which tells a story in itself
This time of the year should be excitement and hope about the new season, instead, it’s fear and dread
Such a good point. Normally at the start of the season I'm usually hopeful. This season I thoroughly expect us to be dreadful and fear the worst. This all seems to be self-inflicted as well. It's just crazy.

Are you joking
Yeah, nowhere near the worst. He wasn't great but usually gave his all and summed up that Ritchie 98-2001 era; we seemed to have lots of players who weren't the most talented but put a shift in most of the time.

Darren Byfield?
Was crap but I think did get a couple of goals. Or maybe one (Crewe away possibly?). But yeah, on a par with Facet for crapness.
-
He wasn't the shittest but I found Stuart Barlow really irritating. Yet another of the not very good former Everton brigade and seemed to miss loads of easy chances. Depressing we got him after great/decent strikers like Ritchie, Marshall, Sharp etc.

Tough and solid. Didn't he once play with a broken foot?
Tough as nails but basically a perma-crock.

David "chicken" Currie is a good shout. Very gifted but couldn't see a team-mate...….would dribble the ball everywhere that was ineffective so much so, I'm certain he forgot which end he was attacking.
On the positive side - he turned into Maradonna for one night vs Notts County in the League Cup. Scored two, including a brilliant one.
One the massively debit side, should have scored a glorious late equalizer at Old Trafford but was scared by Schmeichel.
So yeah...he can do one. But not the worst. -
If you judge it by reputations (as in you thought they could still be okay but they were total crud) then Brett Ormerod, Ben Burgess and Steve Kabba were all just appalling. Then there were others who just weren't up it - Matty Barlow, Paul Beavers, Junior Agogo, Molango, David McNiven, Dean Crowe, Dean Kelly etc etc...

Ishmael Miller signs a new contract at Tranmere.
Question please - did he look like he could still play at a higher level while with us or was he total gash?

He was. McDonald was terrible and we were extremely lucky to get £450k (I think) for him. Was it Aberdeen he went to?
Quite possibly. Think he scored a belter in one of his first games (v West Ham, 2-2?) but otherwise did little. Royle seemed to sign a few former Everton / City players whose best days were behind them unfortunately....

Where does George's fee rank in our list of fees received?
Off the top of my head (say £500k as the threshold):
Barrett to Villa, £1.7m
Bernard to Aberdeen, £1m
Gerrard to Everton, £1m
Marshall to Ipswich, £750k
Edmundson to Rangers, £675k (or so)
Fleming to Norwich, £600k
Trotman to Preston, £500k
Serrant to Newcastle, £500k
Henry to Sheffield United, £500k
What about biggest fees paid? (same threshold)
Olney from Villa, £700k
Milligan from Everton, £600k
Pointon from City, £600k
McDonald from Everton, £500k
McCarthy from Bradford, £500k
Pedersen from Brann, £500k (I think?)
And of those signings, who lived up to it (bearing in mind those were decent fees in the early 90s)? Milligan was good, Pointon okay (but scored at Wembley and versus Southampton so deserves love for that) and McCarthy had one decent season in the second tier. Not a great outlay though. Royle really was better with limited funds....

Cost us a lot more than that the fucking wanker
He was good in his first season (as a player). But the second half of that sentence is accurate.

Hopefully a keeper called Woods will be good between the sticks.
I'll get my coat...
I'm sure he'll be a tree-mendous signing.

I very much doubt it. Holloway will never score many goals in any league. If that's his main remit he'll always be a failure.
A-League is L1/L2 standard in my opinion, with the odd decent player thrown in. Past his prime Adam Le Fondre was one of the leading strikers last season which indicates the comparative standard. Brisbane decent place to live and he'll be playing in a big stadium (admittedly only a quarter full) for home games. Wish he'd been better for Latics but a great adventure for him. Good luck to the lad.

This. Close thing between Shez and Dux - one brought class, the other leadership - but going with Shez.

Former Latics loanee Aiden O'Neill (still on Burnley's books) signs on a loan deal for Brisbane Roar, who recently appointed Robbie Fowler as their new boss. O'Neill did okay playing for struggling Central Coast Mariners in the A-League last season.

Another rubbish kid United have tried to dump on us.
Have we ever had a decent loanee from them?
And didn't they also palm Michael Clegg off on to us? My God he was bad....

Who can forget kenny Cooper To be fair though his stats for us weren’t bad at all.
Ben Hamer - remind me please? Long distance fan and memory a bit hazy these days but don't recall him....?

Former (brief) loanee Fabio Ferreira released by A-League premiers (that's the team who finishes top of regular season) Perth Glory. He's had a mini-tour of A-League clubs in his time.
-
Neil Kilkenny's Perth Glory loses A-League grand final on pens to Sydney FC. Kilkenny still bossing the midfield.
-
Long distance fan here. Surprised by lack of sadness in thread to Jose being released. Has he been that unimpressive this season? Give him a decent pre-season and he could be handy in League Two, right?

IIRC we went top after that. We released a commemorative video too.
Shame it didn't last...
Brilliant night match. Sean McCarthy on fire, smashed an unstoppable 20-yarder in. I was sure we were going straight back up to the Prem after that but then everything went to shit..

didnt the spurs game get postponed due to our beach being waterlogged they were dire and struggling for players due to injurys and there for the taking .by the time of the rearanged game all their stars were back typical of our luck
Also two days earlier (I think - the days when teams played Tuesday and Thursday!) we couldn't beat Sheff Utd at home in a six-pointer. They were a bunch of thugs in those days under Dave Bassett and held us to a draw. Think we both got relegated in the end.

Aiden O'Neill sent off for Central Coast Mariners in their 5-3 loss to Brisbane Roar. Think he's on a season-long loan there. They've had a 'mare of a season, bottom of the league.

One half of the legendary 'Beavers-Agogo' strike force I think?
Terrible news. RIP Junior.
