  1. Main chases everything so he's a terrific defensive asset in my opinion, in addition to the quality he brings in terms of his power and long distance shooting. He helps us defend from the front.

Holloway's hold-up play is also fantastic and this is helping the players around him get chances. It's also helping us retain possession and take pressure off the defense.

The goals will come for both of them I think, but I wouldn't judge those two on goals alone because of the other qualities they bring.

Not disputing that Main and Holloway have improved us, Main reminds me of Warne, never gives the ball up and Holloway is what Cassidy should've been. Playing them up front together isn't working though and won't cos their qualities don't include bagging the goals we'll need to stay up and ultimately that's what is going to cost us.

  2. I can see it with my own eyes Hank. That's why mills and Winchester are out of favour.

We need goals Gaz and imo Murphy would've provided them. We're not going to be smashing teams by 3 or 4 so someone who can convert chances is vital and likely to be the difference between staying up and not. From what I've seen neither Main nor Holloway can do that. Sheridan is gambling on Thiele being a better option than Murphy was. I hope he's proved right.

  3. He's on loan at Wimbledon because we are in a relegation scrap. He wasn't up for it.

You can't know that. He's the only player on the books who can score goals and that's exactly what we need to stay up. Effective as they are, Main and Holloway aren't going to provide them.

And can we expect to see Mills and Winchester pitch up at Kingsmeadow this weekend then?

  4. Play like we have the last three games and we'll do well to win another one.

Spot on, it was dire at times.

We need to improve a lot and rapid cos we won't be playing anyone as :censored:e as Blackpool again this season.

When did we sack the fitness coach?

  5. To the tune of 'Ernie'

You can hear the groans abound as the balls launched out the ground, and the tremor in the pitch as his fists they duly pound, another chance blazed skywards, another sitter missed, yep Curtis Main's up front again no wonder I get pissed.

Now Curtis has a rival for his shots that go astray, a bloke from Wycombe's second team called Amadi-Holloway. Twelve games they've played between them and they've yet to find the net, but Philly bagged us seven and he'll score tonight I bet

Our strikers aren't producing, they just cannot score a goal, and with Philly and Rhys Murphy gone we're in a massive hole. But Shez will be our saviour, he's found a kraut to score, one single goal in twenty five is why we'll still be bottom four.

  6.

...and that was the game where Murphy ":censored: out" of throwing himself at the ball from a cross for a certain goal. He would have clattered the post too but I said on another thread, that was it for me - showed his lack of desire for us. Good riddance for me - slow and ponderous at this level - and no fight whatsoever.

Yea cos we're blessed with fighters throughout this team aren't we?

Part of the reason we're where we are in the League is cos we have too many players who don't give a :censored:, though shipping out the only striker we have who can score goals and replacing him with two who can't is another reason.

  7. We've won at Bramhall Lane twice since 1910. I was there when we won in the late 1980s, one of our magnificent performances from the period! I think their manager got sacked.

Bottom line - we very rarely win there. Move on.

I was at that game too. 5-0!! and as you say, magnificent was the word that day and their manager did indeed get sacked after the match, Billy McKewen. Don't think he managed again.

  8. Gulf in class appeared evident yesterday I'm afraid, Oldham Nil. As previous two posters said. Run was going to come to an end and Sheff U where simply the better side in this match. I trust Shez to know what he's doing more so than the previous two epic fails of 'coaches' and we focus on Blackpool now.

Apart from when it comes to signing strikers who can score.

  9. Shez was always going to struggle to get a decent striker in - any decent ones were already established at their clubs by the time we appointed him.

Sorry but that's nonsense. We had Higdon, he was scoring. If he couldn't bring any decent strikers in the alternative isn't signing ones who can't score. By the looks of today he's added another to his collection.

  10. I've got a blue with a white stripe cotton shirt with a collar - not sure what decade it's from though. It's not an original I hasten to add but your welcome to borrow it if it's of any use. Please don't wash it though cos Chris Taylor signed it in Legends a few years ago :D

  11. Christ. I have NEVER seen a conspiracy theory on Jill Dando before.

Next you'll all start on 9/11 (I was born in America) but the thing with conspiracy theories is just THAT, they are a theory.

    Some right nuggets on here.

It's only a theory cos surprisingly the government didn't come out and admit they were aware of, and tolerated if not condoned, the fact that the establishment is riddled with pedophiles and that they were going to be imminently exposed by a highly reputable journalist which couldn't be allowed to happen so she was bumped off. I'm sure there'll be making a statement anytime though acknowledging this.

And please don't tell me you believe the official version of 911, dear me.

  12. He paid someone to do it. It doesn't have to be true that Jill Dando was about to expose Savile's evil. It's enough and plenty more that Savile believed she was on to him. The Met medievally pinned it on the local mental case.

Spot on this. The very dodgy Cliff Richard was friends with Dando and was allegedly complicit in her murder by informing Savile of her proposed expose. Savile also spent 11 (eleven) consecutive Christmas's at Thatcher's private residence. You wouldn't get within a mile of the PM without top level security clearance and given the rumours and feelings from his colleagues that he was a wrong un it's stretching belief that the vetting gave him the all clear.

I wonder what they had in common?

  13. Not a cat in hells chance of Dunn keeping us up, sorry but there's no chance I can even slightly agree with that opinion.

We literally had nothing going for us as a team? The players were playing so negatively and we never had the fight to come back from a goal down... Apart from the fluke of Gillingham away you keep mentioning

Mentioned it once on here. Ever.

And scoring 3 goals away against a side in the top 3 wasn't a fluke pal.

  14.

Sorry mate - Dunn was Rovers through and through (and as bad as the last Rovers import we had - Glen Keeley). In my opinion, he was a cocky, arrogant git whilst he was here who couldn't manage the proverbial in a brewery. His sarcastic sideswipes at the fans and the mighty Joe Royle made my blood boil and I would have given him a right piece of my mind face to face given a chance. His and Holden's laughing and joking on the touchline when we produced some of the worst football we've seen for a long time was an insult to the fans and showed their egos were bigger than their combined brains.

Shez is humble - Latics to the core and a down to earth type who loves football and, more importantly, appreciates the fans' perspective. Won't always agree with him, for sure, but about 1,000,000,000,000,000 % better than the man from Rovers (back where he belongs I see).

    We were.

We scored. We didn't lose. We were entertained at times. How often did anything of those things happen under Dunn? Never mind all 3...

Gerrard our best defender. Palmer our best midfielder & best player. Lafferty was largely :censored:e under Dunn and has come on massively under Shez.

Dummigan has been the same good player under either manager. Higdon was probably Dunn's most successful signing and I wish Shez had gone for him rather than Main.

I don't get why you continue to, bizarrely, talk up the worst manager we've ever had and talk down a man who's brought us on in leaps & bounds in a very short period of time and given us a chance of staying up we'd never have had with Dunn.

Okay boys - First of all I wasn't talking Sheridan down, he was one of the best I've ever seen in an Oldham shirt, my criticisms wern't personal towards him. What bugged me was the reaction when his appointment was announced which was on a par with the return of the Messiah when 99% of posters here at the time were happy he was sacked. He was brought back due, in part, to his personal circumstances requiring a move back to the North West, but mainly as a sop by Corney in an attempt to appease fans and deflect from the controversy over the club's financial situation. I don't believe for one second the board sat down and considered a list of suitable replacements for Dunn, of whom Sheridan was considered the best option. If we do go down then very few fans will blame Sheridan, (and by extention the board) whereas if we'dve been relegated under Dunn the reaction would have been toxic and the board's intentions regarding the club would've (rightly) come under increased scrutiny and maybe forced their hand regarding their commitment to the playing side.

Results have improved sure, but they usually do at any club appointing a new manager mid-season. From what I've seen though I'm not sure we're good enough to stay up. There's been no improvement in half the team imo and ultimately our lack of forwards who can score and the fact our keeper regularly gifts goals will do for us and Sheridan hasn't addressed these deficiencies which were obvious to most fans.

And like you nonaenever I well remember Glen Keeley - shockng- but he also somehow scored a worldy when he was here, dribbling Messi-like and slotting home in front of the Chaddy end.

I know I'm in a tiny minority but I thought Dunn would've kept us up. I'm not sure Sheridan will. Respect your arguments though and it's all opinions innit. :)

  15.

WTF! The evidence of VAST improvement since Shezza returned is overwhelming - hopefully that doesn't need further explanation - examine the results. He is getting the best out of what he has at disposal - something Dunn was totally incapable of. Sheridan can actually MANAGE i.e. instill belief, get an extra 20% our of everyone, organise, recruit decently, hire decent assistants (anyone want Holden back !!!). In my eyes - the man is a legend - and I`ve been watching football for a long time - know a good 'un when I see one - and also recognise complete duffers (Dunn, Holden etc.)

The post I responded to stated the second half last night was way better than anything under Dunn, which is utter nonsense. Why would anyone even say that unless it's blind loyalty to Sheridan?

Recruit decently? Gerrard and Palmer yea, Main and Holloway were brought in as strikers and haven't managed a goal between them so thats 50% decent recruits. Dunn brought Dummigan, Lafferty and Higdon in. As for getting an extra 20% out of everyone, I assume your exempting Coleman, Kelly, Jones, Murphy & Mills from that assertion?
