  1.

Before emigrating 6 years ago, I lived in Springhead all my life and I went to Latics home and away for 20 years - many great memories  In 2004 my Canadian wife (a florist) was held up at gunpoint at Cullens by a druggy - and that was it - she said :censored: this Oldham :censored: - we're off. And so I find myself living in comparative bliss in western Canada.

Anyway...in March 2009 my Dad died suddenly and I came home for 10 days for the first time since leaving. Firstly, I couldn't believe how much Oldham had changed in general.....degeneration...a lot of my favourite 'hanuts' boarded up. Secondly, as Latics were playing at home the weekend I was there.....I thought I'd make the most of it.

As I sat down in the Chaddy, the sight of no Lookers stand ripped the heart out of me immediately. Together with the dross football on offer (thanks Mr Penney) and falling crowds and total lack of atmos.....I knew then for sure....

I wasn't here just for my Dad's funeral it was soon to be Latics too :disappointed:

  2. Out of boredom I was just flicking through the channels and ended up watching Aussie Open Tennis.....2 young chicks...Benesova v Zvonareva......and the [female] commentator said "The best thing about Zvonareva is that she can go down on herself".

I think I may watch the rest of this one

  3. It's the Aussie obsession with shortening everything and anything. As i drive into work in the mornings, the traffic reports always refer to accidents where there's an 'Ambo' (Ambulance) on it's way....documentaries on TV are referred to as Doco's by presenters.....even McDonalds advertise on TV as Macca's. The Aussie rules season is populated with even more of it. TV and Radio will reel off "tonight it's the Doggies (Western Bulldogs) against the Pies (Collingwood.....nickname the magpies, shortened to pies) at the G"

A whole new language over here!

    Ah ok - thanks

I'll stick with my original synopsis

  4. I usually stayed at the Hotel Damrak.....which is obviously on the Damrak..the main thoroughfare from Central Station. Affordable and clean and close enough to find at 2 in the morning :censored: faced

Regarding flights...I always made the effort to drive to scouseland and fly Easyjet...cheapest by a country mile.

Cheers and enjoy and have one for me.....miss the place....been away far too long

  5. Any excuse to post that clip of Duncan Ferguson throwing that little tosser Ince to the floor
i'm sure we'll all get bored of it eventually, but not just yet....

I remember Jamie Carragher trying to run off a broken leg. His phone call to TalkSport, inviting Adrian Durham to come to Anfield and call him a bottler to his face, was pretty funny. Mind you his dad's harder than any footballer. Jamie Carragher's dad, that is. I've no idea how hard Adrian Durham's dad is.

    Forgot about that clip......pure class....cheers :)
