  1. Doubt Placide will stay regardless but would prefer another keeper, he’s been OK but nothing special with the potential for a clanger and it looked like nerves affected him quite badly yesterday too.

Got to keep at least two of Hamer, Edmundson and Stott, would be happy if we added an experienced, rough leader in there with them. Could be Clarke but unsure if his legs are there anymore and whether he’ll even want to play another season. Gerrard is on a wage and is injured too much for me.

Full-backs - doubt Hunt will stay and hopefully we can get some cash for him. Also doubt Moimbe will stay, he can do a job in League One if he keeps his head. I think we can keep Dummigan and he’s a good player in League Two, so add another full back to start.

Gardner won’t get another League One club and he will be effective in League Two, I’m happy to keep him and he’s actually looked arsed about us too. Uncertain about Fane (whether or not Lemsagam is binning him off aside) - he looks good when he pulls off the big tackles but he’s often out of position and can’t be trusted with the ball at his feet. Would love to I keep Byrne, with a manager he likes he’d be up there with the best of them in L2 but I’m resigned to him leaving. McEleney hasn’t impressed much but is he worth another go based on how well regarded he is? So we probably need at least two starting midfielders, one of them who can give Gardner a bit of freedom too.

Hope Nepomuceno stays and think he might well do. Would like McLaughlin to stick around but he’s worth a gamble to a L1 team that they can keep him fit. Need to find someone with true pace out there.

I would keep Davies no questions asked, he winds fans up but he scores goals and he will be a nightmare for L2 defences. Obviously not going to keep Doyle or Nazon. Davies needs someone’s to play off him if he’s going to stay, or at least get the wingers running in off the flanks behind him.

There’s a nice core there to build around in a weaker league and we can be effective if we can keep hold of them, add some players who want to be here and get a manager who can actually organise and motivate a team. I’m still not hopeful.

  2. Agree with a lot of what you say but, if he's got that apparently obvious quality he's got, how's he managed to get to 19 without being offered a professional contract? He'd have no doubt signed a year ago and, if he had, he'd still probably be off but we'd be getting a negotiated fee for him.

That's the only thing that you could possibly gripe with the club about I think, but it seems to be a policy that we offer all our youth scholars a contract after their two years are up. We could probably do better with that but at the same time there's always the risk that someone has a stinker in the second half of their scholarship, gets injured or loses their motivation because of it etc. I just don't think you can blame the club for this one, we don't have the resources to be able to offer youth products a pro contract with a year to go on their scholarship with the risks that that entails.

  3.

The idea was to make millions like Crewe, not give them away.

What do you mean 'give them away'? He is a young footballer who has been given the opportunity to join a Premier League club, and an established one at that. Renshaw is out of contract and if you seriously think that we are able to compete with a club like Everton in terms of offering a new deal then I don't know what to say. Even if the terms were equal then Everton are clearly the higher draw - better training facilities and coaching, the opportunity to potentially play in the Prem and the chance to learn from established goalkeepers at one of the top ten biggest clubs in the country. This isn't something to moan about - we should just be pleased for the lad that he's moving on to better things. The only disappointing thing here is that we won't get the chance to see someone who is obviously a big talent play for our first team.

  4. I guess that's the point. For anyone my age or over the last 20 years hasn't produced a single legend.

I see your point, I'm 20 and have only seen us play in L1 so my definition of a legend is a lot different to yours. To me the likes of Eyres, Liddell, Taylor, Gregan and Pogs are club legends because they were my heroes growing up - Sheridan was the pick of them after the miracle last year, but he's ruined my opinion of him with this. It's a shame because there's very few players who I can say are club legends having watched them and Shez has made that one fewer with his move to Notts.

  5. In reality we weren't for long periods.

We were cleverly set up with Jones and Palmer very narrow when they had the ball and Main and Forte tucked deeper.

What we did very well was then press as a front 6 after they inevitably played the shorter pass into midfield or to the often available wide player.

They had to look longer at some point but steadfastly refused to do so which meant by the hour mark we knew exactly where the ball was going.

What it did mean was that our fullbacks were seriously exposed on occasion - in both halves despite our second half dominance - but it was a risk ultimately worth taking.

Full marks to Sheridan - We set up perfectly last night - and also to Dieng who was superb at filling in the space on the rare occasions we didn't win it which allowed the rest to quickly reset.

    Excellent performance and onto Saturday...

We were in the first half an hour of the first half I think; as you rightly pointed out Jones and Palmer played very narrow so they had a lot of joy down the wings in that period just because we didn't press them fast enough in the centre. Full marks to Shez for spotting this and changing it however and we soon made sure they had no space in the middle - led by a brilliant Kelly performance (and Dieng was very good too).

  6.

So Wilson and Mills will put a shift in if it's Sheridan yea? I'm tearing up here I'm that grateful to them.

I think what he's trying to say is that Sheridan has the ability to motivate them and bring their best qualities out in a way Dunn was unable to. It's League One football and players have similar abilities, meaning the manager has to be able to get the best out of them. Dunn couldn't do that whereas I reckon Shez can.

  7. Charlton he got promoted as champions from this level and then stabilised them in the Championship. They were extremely well-drilled at this level. He was sacked by a chairman who signed players without his blessing and is currently running their club into the ground.

He kept Huddersfield up comfortably last season and kept them mid table this year before being sacked despite them selling their best players in the summer. The fans said his football was a bit dull but most thought he was harshly sacked and the new guy hasn't done much better.

Not an unqualified success, but certainly not a failure.

Huddersfield have been playing far better than they were under Powell, the new manager has completely changed the style of play around and it is attractive, attacking football. It will take a while for them to get used to and I'm not sure they have the players for it currently but he will do considerably better than Powell did there. They're not short of money either.

Whether Powell could work on a significantly lower budget than he ever has remains to be seen. That being said, he has a clear track record in our division and I wouldn't turn him down.

  8. Jesus Christ people are blaming Coleman?! He's saved the first one really well and I don't know where else he could have pushed it, it's not like he's parried it directly in front of him. The second has beaten Wilson and the header has come from about 4 yards in front of him, how he's meant to save that I have no idea. Also, for whoever said about getting beaten at his near post, it's clear you have never played in goal or have any experience of judging goalkeepers. Wow.
