On his first venture into League football, with Latics,  he was derided by some fans.

Now, after 12 goals from midfield and a promotion, he has been voted fans player of the year, players player of the year and supporters club player of the  year.

Well done Ben Garrity for showing what a knowledgeable mob some of our supporters are.

To be fair he was pretty shit for us

Like I said I didn’t watch it properly but it didn’t look like that to me.

It looked like that the other couple of times I’ve seen him play.

Maybe, it’s just a bit of a lazy assessment by many ? People have already made their minds up it seems. Some won’t change that if he bags 20 !!

Just to clarify , would I have re-signed him on what I’d witnessed ? (very little) No I definitely wouldn’t. But like it or not he’s our player. Get behind the fella and he may just start to show why he’s played in La Liga.

I’ve only really watched him once v Dale in pre-season and I have to agree. Thought he showed intelligence and some good touches, albeit with not much pace. Perhaps the plan is to use him as a link up with goals hopefully from the three behind him. Could well be proved wrong but hope I’m right....

Today was a great result, even though Colchester's promotion wheels have come off somewhat of late.

A pity that some late goals make the slim play-off hopes even more so but who is going to complain with PW's results?

I would say that Lemsagam is going to offer Wild the job and he could do no worse than apologise to the fans, admit that getting Scholes in was a hope of boosting the club's profile and attendances and that, in hindsight, he acted with haste. Whatever it was that rookie Scholes brought to the club, it clearly didn't work and Wild is using his deep reserves of experience to ensure the season ends on good terms.

I honestly do not expect Latics to finish in the play-offs but as long as they are knocking on the door, then it keeps things bubbling over and ensures at least a positive finish.

He elbows the keeper in the small of the back, when the keeper has the ball in his hands. Whilst you are on a yellow card that is simply dumb. I had a cracking view of it. The keeper sells it like Shaun Michaels against Hulk Hogan but he couldn't have done that if Clarke hadn't unnecessarily elbowed him (probably out of frustration).

Despite the fact the ball didn't hit his hand, he conceded the penalty because he jumped with his arm up for no reason. He jumps without leading with his arm we probably get a draw.

His performance for 89 minutes was 11/10, and your right to use the word colossus. However, his performance for the next 4 was - 1/10. In those final 4 minutes we might well have been better off without him on the pitch.

Great Summerslam 2005 reference! I really felt for Clarke - love his leadership and commitment; sadly took it a step too far but I forgive him in a heartbeat for his overall performance. Just my two penneth.

  5. Just read the thread and haven’t seen mention of it. Watched highlights on Quest tonight and at the end Colin Murray mentions Jacques Santini (had to read up on him) was at the game and his odds of being new manager had “tumbled.” Assumed he was talking about us not Vale. A friend of AL’s?

Out of interest his Wiki page reports most of his jobs ended prematurely because of various conflicts with superiors.

Don’t think I imagined it all although it has been a busy week... All the best to everyone and Latics for 2019

  6. Don’t post a lot but very interesting and honest posts here. My colleague’s daughter has a Masters in clinical psychology and is at the cutting edge of mental health treatment. A new process called TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) will hopefully revolutionise treatment in this area. My dad, another lifelong Latics fan, suffered a breakdown and had the rather brutal but effective ECT and it has restored him to about 85% capacity. The new TMS is absolutely unintrusive and painless and will hopefully be rolled out in the NHS soon and start improving lives for lots of sufferers. All the best everyone - increase the peace.

Whitaker was Wellens' replacement in 2008 - took the number 7 shirt too. He looked fairly decent his first few games but I think it was our best start as a team in years with Hughes on fire, anyway that lead to the comparison with Wellens which was ludicrous even at the time.

Ok. That rings a bell now. Crikey my memory! Always liked him as a player anyway

At least the opportunity to welcome back our best midfielder of the last 25 years should put an extra few thousand on the gate.

That made me laugh. I really liked him here though. Thought the midfield he and Wellens operated in was our best in certainly the last 10-12 years, and that wasn’t just down to Wellens.

I’m going as I missed the MK game due to holiday and didn’t go to FGR. As such it’ll be my first visit this season. Hopes aren’t high after reading reports on here but actually looking forward to going. As an aside, the fishul makes no reference to ticket prices tomorrow. Really hope it’s a tenner....

    Oh good, it’s 15
