  1. Jac you are not naive enough to believe if the powers that be want a certain development to go through, it will. Lip service will be paid via the planning applications and local meetings held, but no matter what opposition is fielded, it will be built. Now giving (apparently) the council is truely on board and behind this development lets get it right for those who will ultimately see it succeed, the fans.

No, I'm not naive, I work in this area. There are still plenty of hurdles to get through before this development gets passed. And believe me, there could be some opposition to stop it going ahead. Therefore things need to be done right to make sure this does not happen.

I have worked on a scheme where the council was the developer, and even then they could face objections from within the council. This is a private development so will be scrutinised just as much if not more.

  2. In truth every single development that's ever been or will be gets discord in certain sections. This happens and will here. So lets get it right for those that it will affect in the beginning, the middle and the end, ie the fans that will attend the stadium the first year, the fifth year and ten year and on. Not to mention the club who's home it will be in fifty years time. It will be the fans footfall through the turnstyles that will dictate it's success or failure. Nothing more.

The fans aren't the most important stakeholder to consider here unless they are a local resident. This development will fail if the locals aren't on board. As well as the community groups that are likely to use the facilities. Football fans will be there for home games. Local people and community groups will be there throughout the week and through the close season.

Yes tha fans need consulting too, but we are way down the pecking order.

  3. I agree with Ross, that wasn't a consultation. It was a Q&A session. The club now need to go through full consultation with all stakeholders. They need to design the whole development around what each party needs. Rather than just spouting "we will have this many 3G pitches and ..." This is the only way to get people on board.

More gestures need to be made towards the locals. We need to learn from our mistakes from BP and the NIMBYs. This will happen again if the club don't take them serious.

There is a very tight deadline and a very ambitious target. The club can't afford not to cover all bases.

  4. After driving other people to games so they can have a drink, this may well be my opportunity to say "No, I'm going to walk up the road, hop on the tram at Whitefield and get off at New Boundary Park".

Obviously this will be limited to my birthday and special occasions

This will probably cause people to throw things at me, but if a new ground being in this location would stop you from going to the same number of games at BP then you never really had blue blood in the first place.

  5. Something that you all need to remember is the lack of the council input in the past on anything Latics. This way they are involved. Not only will we be getting a new ground, but community facilities will be built to benefit local people. The existing users of that land will not be pushed aside but will get better facilities. This suggests to me that the council are willing to put funding in place to see this go thrugh. They will benefit. Not just Latics.

I think that's a massive step forward. Yes obviously it isn't ideal, but avenues at the current site have been explored. Several times. And nothing is happening.

Would you all rather we stayed where we are with a 3 sided ground that's falling apart around us? Wasting money left right and centre?

  6. I think they're a smaller fit. Last year I was a large boy, now I'm an extra large boy! Hmmm, maybe it's time for a diet!

I like the laterial. The arms are longer as well. And the Kepp the Faith is on the inside, which I like cos I'm not a big fan. I'm just hoping the plastic sponsors label won't peel in the wash!

  7. Thanks Ackey. I don't have the problem on my PC at home, but I don't when I have my work laptop on my network at home either. So I think it's something to do with works network. Just wondered if anything like that had happened before. It never used to do it! Damn IT people!

  8. Who fixed my login and didn't email me back to tell me?!

I can now become unproductive at work again as OWTB doesn't need me to login 3 times before FINALLY accepting my details. And then booting me out after I've read about 3 threads!

Thanks to whoever did it though!

  9. Stop whinging Jacqueline, you girls get to see 10 fit fellas running round in them every other week. I doubt us lads will get the kit paraded by 10 female fitties every other week! Let us just enjoy!

Fitties??? Are you having a laugh? Look at the team for last season and tell me if you would if you were female................... Let's put it this way, I don't go for the eye candy!
