Ye, this guy who has been sent off twice...

Exactly. Had a suspension for 4 games like Fondop to end his season. I’m assuming that would rule him out from playing games at all levels? Either way, 1 player in the youth that might make the leap…we don’t have much in the way of youth to chuck in so it’s a bit of myth when that one gets brought up

It appears he resents fans opinions and digs in even further.

He thinks fans know nothing yet many know exactly what the problems are.

I don't like his repeated failure selections, square pegs or the style of non football his team dish out and not giving talented youth a chance.

Part time Wealdstone out played and outrun us yesterday and the passing and passion was a joy to watch.

Their young manager was also vibrant and encouraging his team, totally opposite from ours who forever has his hands in his pockets.

If you are reading this Mr Mellon you are well paid to produce a successful and entertaining football team while we fans pay good money for you to do it.

    Bear that in mind please.

I keep hearing about this talented youth he’s not giving a chance to? Who are they? Where are they?

Many times I heard MM shout to the players to get forward, but they don't listen or aren't capable of it, maybe both.

He needs to root out these players once and for all.

If I were an opposition manager my instructions would just be to run directly with the ball from  midfield and wide as they will back off and sit deep, then panic and hoof the ball - which will picked up easily by the defenders.

My impression is Latics players can't cope with dribblers and runners, and it's not just at home, remember the Fylde debacle.

MM has got to change to a front foot team or else what we saw yesterday will be like ground hog day.

How does he do that without a complete clear out? Which isn’t possible right now.

Hes brought in a handful of players (a few that have been injured) but the squad has and still does need open heart surgery. And he knows it.

It’s something we’re gunna have to suffer with and try get as much out of as we can and see where it gets us. The performances are a byproduct of the problems that can’t be changed overnight.

In that case the players are just taking the piss, worse still Mellon is allowing it. This lot won't win fuck all being so weak. What a platform they had today, it should have really mattered to them - but it didn't. Some of them actually don't even give a fuck and the ones that do are very limited footballers.

The players are taking the piss. Have been at home for most of the season. Including the Trophy games. It’s a massive attitude problem and lack of ability in several players involved. Not sure how Mellon is allowing it though…when he does pull it up (Reid) some quarters give him shit for it. He’d bin loads of these bad attitudes off if he could but he (and we) are stuck with them until at least the summer. So they’ll stink out the place on some more occasions.

At this level, the club is too big for a number of them. Genuinely think some are shocked at the level of expectation & it’s too much for them. Especially when 11k turn up.

  5. Amazed I’m reading comments like “he looks broken” and “feel sorry for him”

His interview is a man desperately trying not to lie & unable to say what plan he had and why he felt it didn’t work. People should feel about as sorry for him as they did for Darren Kelly. Who had the equivalent of absolutely cock all to spend on a team.

He won’t walk. If he’s not pushed now, it’s more self harm this club faces by poor leadership from up top. Got great intentions…but it all goes up in smoke if they can’t right this astronomical wrong 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’d take awful football if I felt it was sustainable. This Indian summer we’ve had in our season is purely down to playing pub teams and allotments. We’ve won twice against sides above us in the league. He hasn’t stumbled onto anything but a run of absolutely shite teams to play, mostly at home.

It we want to talk about winning ugly then it wasn’t pretty under Dowie but you knew it was well drilled, organised, sustainable against almost all teams. And there were some players that were average but played  above their natural level. Not a snowballs chance in hell Unsworth can manage a squad like that. Or even close to it. If I saw a crumb of Dowie in him I’d say give him chance. But sadly, it feels like the car salesman will waste a couple of years of our lives as his buddy keeps him in the job.

7 months wasted since I wrote the above and on we go 😞

    You keep shifting the goalposts.

He’s just got a run of 1 loss in eight. With four wins and three draws- shooting us up the form table, but you said on the other thread this run doesn’t count because it isn’t sustainable. . .

So what does he have to do now?

Go on a run - but when it does come to end being able to go another to show it’s sustainable?

To be clear,  I’m not advocating him staying- I know he’s really struggling. But this ‘wins don’t count unless’ is nonsense to me.

Well he hasn’t gone on a run of 1 in 8. It was bollocks coz the self proclaimed “best chance to get to Wembley” was a loss. Just folk delete that out to bullshit that it was some magical run we were on. As for some of the wins, he didn’t mastermind a Dagenham player booting the ball at his hand and the ref giving a penalty. it was lucky to have a run of games that was the easiest run of fixtures in the clubs entire history and we grabbed points by luck than judgement. It’s all run out now. Hard times setting in.

I’ve not shifted goalposts once. I’ve said he should never have been appointed. He’s made mistake after mistake after mistake. We did against a knackered depleted Gateshead after they’d had a long trip south what we did against Alty in October. Zero progression. Beaten just 2 teams in the league above us and 1 away win. No back to back wins all season. Don’t blag to me that he had us on a run. It’s phoney as fuck. Come back and let’s talk about a run when he’s won 7 in 10. Or even goes ACTUALLY unbeaten for 5 games or so 👍

To play this great brand of entertaining football everyone seems to want you need quality, creative players in midfield and out wide.

We don't have an attacking right side - fact

We don't have someone who can dictate a game in central midfield - fact

Until we get players to fill these gaps our style of play will pretty much remain as it is.

Unsworth is probably not the right manager to get us back into the EFL, but you can only work with what you have, and the impression some on here have that we have invested in loads of quality players is bollocks. Most are past their best, are solid not creative, and are good enough to keep us up which is now being shown in our results and performances.

Ask yourself who in our squad would get into Wrexham's or Notts County's starting 11?

None I'd hazard a guess.... Shows how far we have fallen and how far we have to go.

Doesn't matter who is in charge. We have a solid mid table squad and nothing more. We will finish around 12th which is probably a place or two below where they should be, and Unsworth should take the flack for this.

I'll be interested to see who we bring in in pre season and how much we do actually invest in genuine quality players.

He’s had ample opportunity to get these players in. He said Maynard was a key part of his team when fit. Sydie Peck was championed as some real key in the plan. Shelton a box to box guy. Chapman is his man. Been poor. He’s making them poor. His style and tactics and lumping the ball and just no real design or plan is making players look like absolute shit.

Would love to see our side under another manager. Would be totally different with organisation, knowing when to press, when to hold. Players designed to play in 2s and 3s and hunt in packs.

See none of it under this clown.

Well that was dreadful.  This season will go down in my history of watching Latics, as the most boring ever.

The enthusiasm, and life seems to have been sucked out of the fans. The atmosphere in the ground is dead, and all in all it's not a very pleasant experience.

And that being after a 2 nil win. I have seen every Saturday home game this season, and I have yet  to see us play well.

Today was like watching two amateur teams, and was very poor fare.

I thought Yardy was very strong,  and looks a great prospect. Sutton looks to be improving after his recent bad luck with injuries, and should get better and better. Sheron looks decent for this level, and is our only player looking to get a tackle in.

The rest look poor, and we will need a massive influx of new players to have any chance of challenging near the top.

Thing is, 9 of those 16 in the squad today were his players. 6 started. Any manager should be able to show he can improve what he has before being trusted with more cash to splash. We’ve had a slight upturn when facing the easiest run of fixtures in the clubs entire history.

I’m convinced an actual manager gets tons more out of this set of players. Be an expensive experiment to keep churning over players. One that will fail. Poor Frank, having to put up with this and pay millions for the privilege!

But I’m crying alright…I’m devastated we are still wasting our lives (and Franks money) with this clown in charge and playing Russian Roulette with this idiot.

Happy we’ve pulled 6pts clear of the drop tho. Over the next 7 games, that will get eaten away. Enjoy right now…it’s the pinnacle of yours and David’s season 👍

Thanks.  That would make sense.  I read the original post too quickly and thought something had happened “today” but it was perfectly punctuated and I missed the comma 😊

I was genuinely interested and am glad I asked nicely but either way, apologies @Fanny Adams

I’m getting schooled today and my reading comprehension is a bit shit.  I’m probably still pissed from yesterday in fairness so I’m glad we came home by train from Leeds this morning 🤣🤣🤣

To be honest I think there is a section of the supporters who are toxic, and it suits them that the team is struggling at the moment.

Yes there are definitely and you will find them at away games, mostly closer derby games and the like. They seem to care more about antagonising opposing fans than watching the football. And it wasn't just booing which given the performance  is warranted. It was viscous with an air of real menace.

Spot on. One of them in the pub beforehand saying it'd be funny if we went 3-0 down early on. Totally reveling it they were on Saturday. Great support 🙄

The question is, does it achieve anything or just make things worse?

In another few weeks, if we're playing crap nervous football all the time, if the home performances seem really cagey, if the players don't seem to go the extra mile for the fans - maybe it'll be time to think back and think that behaviour from the fans part of the problem?

Like everyone points out, it's a revolving door at Oldham (and most clubs at this level), and the players don't have any connection to the club other than their wage.

Do you think they're going to get any love or pride for the club when they're getting that sort of abuse from the start, week in week out?

Putting frustrations with the owners on the players doesn't help anyone.

If you're so concerned about the fact you've paid for the ticket, why act in a way that makes it more likely you'll pay to see even more bad performances?

Some sense finally being spoken. 100% this. Protest outside the ground. Light your flares, sing your songs, wave your banners if you want. Going with intent (and yes, some did want us to do bad so they could revel in it on Saturday) to be toxic isn't on. Doesn't mean clapping them off if they're shit either. The behaviour of some of our fans was as embarrassing as watching 2 CB's that aren't CB's (one a FB, one just not good enough) trying to defend Bradfords goals.

I know I will get hammered for this but Sefil did well first half. With a experienced player alongside him he will do ok. Fans need to give the lad a break.

He did alright at FGR with Wheater alongside him too. Wasn't the donkey folk suggested that day. Was fucking atrocious in that 2nd half vs Crewe though (with no Wheater alongside him.) His positional sense looks to be dreadful...but that can be coached into him. Games with Stott and Sefil in the back line, we might as well just write off and I would rather it be Stott with Wheater (until Egert is fit.)

I was looking forward to this game tonight , but that was before reading this interview.. I struggle to see how  Benide would motivate you as a player never mind 17 of them sat in a changing room before the game and at half tome ., he comes across really negative.. but has he got reason to be negative knowing the circumstances he faces at the club.. Well i just hope we put a good show on tonight on a big pitch and that we keep  the score respectable and at least have a go at Blackburn and give us supporters something to sing about.

Early impressions are that it feels like he is a defensively minded coach. My concern is that he is a bit of a Steve Robinson. Hopefully those impressions are incorrect.

He could leave Sylla, Nepo & Mills on for 90 mins every week, with a fit Wheater alongside them & we’re still in trouble..... because the squad yer man has assembled - with captain marvel the mighty Maouche and that fkin Spanish cart horse up top - aren’t creating or finishing much. Glossop is right, we’re in danger of going down.... and your constant defence by obfuscation on behalf of the Lemmy’s will get get unpicked as the season progresses. Buck stops with the owner I’m afraid Ross, his squad, his head coach, his way. The wrong way.

Constant defence??? Nah.....Try...doing what used to happen, not expecting overnight success and giving chance to let a team gel, a coach instill his tactics, etc. Sadly today's society wants success or failure in a heartbeat. I'll bide my time, thanks 👍

Oh and this "unpicking"...well, it depends which version of what I've said you want to spin. In case you missed it, this is my take on things (below)....no amount of wailing by others will influence that (it's almost as though you think it would 🙄)

So let’s talk about last season.

    3 managers

    Finished 14th.

What is acceptable to you this season, and do you honestly think we’ll achieve it under AL?

    I want to go up.

I think we’ll finish in the bottom half again.

Take away all the stuff that people say about him, the results and direction on his watch are only going one way. At what point does our slide start to alarm you?

We were looking a shout for the playoffs last season until AL, who doesn’t care about the fans (sic), appointed a guy who the fans were crying out for and who single handedly ended our season.
