League One Weekend Fixture Preview – 26th - 28th Sept 2008

 

Welcome to this week’s edition of “League One Weekend Fixture Preview”, previewing the League One action away from the Boundary Park camp.

 

Scunthorpe United vs. Yeovil Town

Scunthorpe will hope to make it six straight league wins this weekend when Yeovil visit Glanford Park.

 

Scunthorpe are sweating over the fitness of midfielder Garry Thompson, who looks set to have a late fitness test. Long-term injury absentee Kenny Milne will definitely be missing. Otherwise, Adkins looks set to name an unchanged team from last week.

 

Yeovil’s Darren Way looks set to have his injury assessed late on to see if he will feature, whilst Marc Bircham may also return to action.

 

Prediction: Scunthorpe 3-1 Yeovil

Leeds United vs. Hereford United

Leeds United welcome Hereford to Elland Road as they look to add to their previous three consecutive league wins.

 

Leeds’ Alan Sheehan is still suspended from first team action, whilst Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio return after a Carling Cup rest.

 

Hereford are still missing Sam Oji, Moses Ashikodi, Andy Williams and Steve Guinan through injury. New signing Bruno N’Gotty looks likely to make his debut. Simon Johnson may be rewarded with a starting place after impressing last week from the bench.

Prediction: Leeds 2-0 Hereford

Swindon Town vs. Millwall (Sunday)

Leicester City vs. Hartlepool United

Leicester will hope to earn three points to keep pace with the pack as Hartlepool visit The Walkers Stadium.

 

For Leicester, Max Gradel, Steve Howard and DJ Campbell may feature, but a decision will be made last minute. Saturday may prove to be too soon for Patrick Kisnorbo.

 

Hartlepool’s Ben Clark will not be risked for the visit to Leicester, having only recently recovered from an injury obtained in pre-season. Anthony Sweeney looks set to have a late fitness test.

Prediction: Leicester 2-2 Hartlepool

 

Walsall vs. Carlisle United

Despite equal points, these two teams have experienced opposite fortunes in their previous two league fixtures.

 

Walsall’s Rhys Weston and Netan Sans miss out through suspension, with Paul Boertien and Chris Palmer likely to replace. Mark Bradley is doubtful, but Michael Ricketts looks set for a return.

 

For Carlisle, both Peter Murphy and Chris Lumsdon are injury doubts. Loanee Jennison Myrie-Williams may add to his substitute appearance last week. Michael Bridges should feature whilst Danny Graham may not recover from a knock in time.

 

Prediction: Walsall 0-1 Carlisle

MK Dons vs. Peterborough United

MK Dons will hope to iron out their recent inconsistent run when Peterborough visit stadium:mk.

 

For the Dons, Danny Swailes remains injured. Luke Howell and Florian Sturm may feature after returning to fitness. Sam Baldock also pushes for a place up front with Ali Gerba.

 

Peterborough will be without the injured trio of Aaron Mclean, Shane Blackett and Dean Keates. Tommy Williams looks set to feature at left-back instead of Jamie Day. Shaun Batt challenges Scott Rendell for the strikers position.

 

Prediction: Mk Dons 1-1 Peterborough

Cheltenham Town vs. Stockport County

Cheltehnam will hope to improve on their dismal start to the League One campaign when Stockport visit.

 

For Cheltenham, loan signings Stuart Fleetwood, Josh Payne and Lewis Montrose should feature. Barry Hayles begins his suspension. Goalkeeper Scott P. Brown looks set to replace the injured Shane Higgs.

 

Stockport are missing James Tunnicliffe, Jason Taylor and Matty McNeil through injury. Dominic Blizzard and Michael Raynes should return.

 

Prediction: Cheltenham 1-2 Stockport

 

Tranmere Rovers vs. Colchester United (Friday)

Managerless Colchester travel to Tranmere on Friday night with Kit Symons as caretaker manager as they hope to improve this season’s disappointing start.

 

Tranmere have no injury worries or suspensions to deal with, having a full-strength squad at his disposal. Gareth Edds and Godwin Antwi returned to training midweek.

 

For Colchester, Steven Gillespie misses out through suspension. New loan signing Gary Borrowdale may feature. Matt Lockwood will miss out through injury, but Pat Baldwin returns.

 

Prediction: Tranmere 2-1 Colchester

 

Southend United vs. Leyton Orient (Friday)

Southend will hope to add to their two consecutive league wins whilst Orient hope to rectify their two consecutive league defeats.

 

For Southend, new loan signing Adam Federici will make his debut in the goalkeeper jersey replacing Ian Joyce. Keeper Steve Mildenhall remains sidelined. Alan McCormack looks set to return having recovered from injury.

 

Orient remain injury plagued, with Danny Granville, Tamika Mkandawire, Solomon Shields, Wayne Gray and Jack Jeffery all out. Simon Dawkins should return from injury.

 

Prediction: Southend 1-1 Orient

 

Northampton Town vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Northampton haven’t won a league game since the opening day, whilst Brighton are on a high after beating Man City in the Carling Cup midweek.

 

For Northamption, Karl Hawley looks set to feature having been cup-tied earlier this week. After an impressive debut, goalkeeper Frank Fielding should retain the number one spot. Captain Chris Doig misses out through injury.

 

Brighton look set to welcome back Colin Hawkins after recovering from surgery. Nicky Forster and Kevin McLeod are still doubts and look set to miss out. Joe Anyinsah provides a dilemma for Micky Adams after an impressive appearance from the bench.

 

Prediction: Northampton 0-2 Brighton

 

Bristol Rovers vs. Crewe Alexandra

Lowly placed Bristol and Crewe face each other at The Memorial Stadium, with hopes to earn points and climb the table.

 

Crewe’s Michael O'Connor and Tom Pope should return from injury and feature. Chris McCready, Adam Legzdins, Ben Rix and George Abbey are all injured.

 

For Bristol, hit-man Rickie Lambert looks likely to miss out though illness, along with Aaron Lescott and Stuart Campbell. Despite back in training, Joe Jacobson won’t feature as he isn’t match fit.

 

Prediction: Bristol 1-2 Crewe
