League One Weekend Fixture Preview – 3rd - 4th Oct 2008

Welcome to this week’s edition of “League One Weekend Fixture Preview”, previewing the League One action away from the Boundary Park camp.

Huddersfield Town vs. Leicester City

Leicester will hope for three points on their travels to the Galpharm Stadium this weekend as they hope to retain the top spot.

Stan Ternant has a near fully fit Huddersfield squad to choose from, with Andy Booth the only player in the treatment room. Ternant is expected to name an unchanged side from last week.

Leicester are without Paul Dickov, DJ Campbell, Ashley Chambers and Stephen Clemence through injury, but still have the strength to field the same strong squad that beat Colchester midweek.

Prediction: Huddersfield 1-2 Leicester

Leyton Orient vs. Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe will hope to make it seven consecutive league wins as they face Leyton Orient.

Leyton Orient will be without the services of Danny Granville, Solomon Shields and Wayne Gray through injury. Despite taking light training, Tamika Mkandawire is also doubtful along with Dean Morgan.

For Scunthorpe, Garry Thompson and Kevan Hurst miss out with patellar tendinitis, whilst Michael Lea will miss the game after an injury collision in training this week.

Prediction: Orient 0-2 Scunthorpe

Peterborough United vs. Leeds United

Leeds United travel to Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough hoping to notch a fifth consecutive league win.

For Peterborough, Gabriel Zakuani is expected to return after recovering from injury. Aaron Mclean, Shane Blackett, Sergio Torres and Dean Keates remain sidelined.

Leeds have a near fully selectable squad at their disposal. Alan Sheehan suffers a further delay in first team action through injury after completing his suspension. Aidy White and Ben Parker will both hope to feature in the left-back role.

Prediction: Peterborough 2-2 Leeds

Millwall vs. MK Dons

Millwall are another team who will aim to continue their impressive recent form when they host MK Dons.

For Millwall, Tresor Kandol completes his three match ban whilst Jermaine Easter starts his. Gifton Noel-Williams is poised to make his debut after completing a short-term loan deal from Elche CF. Zak Whitbread should also return to defence.

For MK Dons, new loanee Luke Chadwick could make his debut. Goalkeeper Willy Gueret and striker Aaron Wilbraham are both doubtful for Roberto Di Matteo.

Prediction: Millwall 3-1 Dons

Hereford United vs. Walsall

Bottom-placed Hereford will hope to add to their 4 point season tally when they host Walsall.

For Walsall, Rhys Weston and Netan Sansara remain suspended following their red cards two weeks ago. Mark Bradley and Sofiene Zaaboub are doubtful.

Hereford will be hoping their recent sessions with a sports psychologist will improve their confidence and belief. Andy Williams and Steve Guinan both return from injury. Sam Oji and Robbie Threlfall both remain on the sidelines.

Prediction: Hereford 0-2 Walsall

Carlisle United vs. Tranmere Rovers

Carlisle will hope to turn around their disappointing three consecutive defeats when they face Ronnie Moore’s Tranmere.

For Carlisle, Josh Gowling pushes for a starting place whilst Peter Murphy is sidelined with medial ligament damage. Jennison Myrie-Williams and Paul Thirlwell should return.

Tranmere have a full strength squad to choose from with no injury worries.

Prediction: Carlisle 1-1 Tranmere

Yeovil Town vs. Southend United

Yeovil are desperate for a league win (their last being August 16th against Hereford) whilst Southend will hope to make it four consecutive league wins.

Yeovil have injury concerns over much of their squad. Aidan Downes suffers another knee injury setback. Marc Bircham injured his ankle in training midweek, whilst Nathan Smith and Lee Peltier both require surgery.

For Southend, Dougie Freedman will undergo a late fitness test to determine his inclusion. Alan McCormack and Adam Barrett have both recovered from injury and may feature some part. Steve Mildenhall remains injured.

Prediction: Yeovil 0-2 Southend

Hartlepool United vs. Swindon Town (Friday)

On Friday night Hartlepool host Swindon, with both teams starting the season inconsistently.

For Hartlepool, new loan signing Kevin Kyle goes straight into the squad and looks set to make his debut. Ben Clark also recovers from injury and should feature. Willie Boland is definitely out.

For Swindon, Hasney Aljofree is sidelined through illness with Patrick Kanyuka and Jerel Ifil both hoping to fill his boots. Barry Corr and Kasali Yinka Casal are both doubtful.

Prediction: Hartlepool 2-1 Swindon

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Cheltenham Town

Brighton will hope to record a victory, having not won in their previous five outings, as they host Martin Allen’s men.

Brighton’s Robbie Savage looks set to make his first start for the club, with Kevin Thornton pushing for a full debut. Steve Thomson and Kevin McLeod are both injury doubts. Nicky Forster may return after recovering from injury.

For Cheltenham, new loan signings Darren Kenton and James Wesolowski may feature. Alan Wright and striker Lloyd Owusu both return to first team action. Barry Hayles will miss out through suspension, with David Bird, John Finnigan and Shane Duff missing out through injury.

Prediction: Brighton 0-1 Cheltenham

Colchester United vs. Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers will no doubt argue they are due a win (having not won in their past 6 league games) and will hope to rectify this on their visit to Colchester.

For Colchester, Steven Gillespie returns from suspension and is expected to feature. Matt Lockwood remains Colchester’s only injury concern and will be out. Chris Coyne will also be available before flying out to join up with the Australian squad.

For Bristol, Trollope will assess the fitness of Steve Elliot prior to kick off. Joe Jacobson and Jo Kuffour are possibilities but Ryan Green definitely won’t play.

Prediction: Colchester 2-0 Bristol

Crewe Alexandra vs. Northampton Town

Both of these teams will think a victory is on the cards in this week’s battle of the bottom.

For Crewe, loan signing Dennis Lawrence is available to play and is expected to replace Julian Baudet. Calvin Zola is doubtful, whilst Chris McCready and George Abbey definitely miss out.

Northampton have no injury worries ahead of this fixture. Chris Doig returns after completing a midweek reserve match unscathed.

Prediction: Crewe 2-1 Northampton
