League One Weekend Fixture Preview – 1st Nov2008

 

Welcome to this week’s edition of “League One Weekend Fixture Preview”, previewing the League One action away from the Boundary Park camp.

 

Scunthorpe United vs. Swindon Town

Scunthorpe will hope to get back to winning ways this weekend as they host Swindon at Glanford Park.

 

Scunthorpe hit man Gary Hooper is 50/50 and a decision concerning his inclusion will be made last minute. Krystian Pearce should recover from an ankle injury in time for Saturday. Kenny Milne remains sidelined.

 

For Swindon, goalkeeper Petr Brezovan is an injury doubt, with Phil Smith on stand-by ready to step in. They are likely to name an unchanged side from the one that beat Oldham a week ago.

 

Prediction: Scunthorpe 2-2 Swindon

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Millwall

Both Brighton and Millwall will hope to replicate their previous league performance when they face each other this weekend.

 

For Brighton, goalkeeper John Sullivan should regain his place in goal with Michel Kuipers still suffering from injury. Striker Glenn Murray is also an injury doubt, and will face a fitness test before the match. Kevin Thornton should replace the injured Robbie Savage. Nicky Forster, Gary Hart and Kerry Mayo are all injured. New loanee Stuart Fleetwood may also start.

 

For Millwall, Zak Whitbread is an injury doubt but Adrian Forbes should return. Nadjim Abdou misses out through suspension. Gary Alexander remains on the sidelines.

 

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Millwall

 

Cheltenham Town vs. Leeds United

Both Cheltenham and Leeds will both hope to rectify their prior defeats to this fixture when the two teams face each other this weekend.

 

For Cheltenham, Drissa Diallo returns to first team action. Ashley Vincent is sidelined with a fractured wrist and loanee Ian Westlake is not allowed to play against his parent club. Lloyd Owusu also misses out through suspension.

 

For Leeds, Andrew Hughes, Rui Marques and Alan Sheehan are all injury doubts. Paul Huntington may return but it is likely he will be rested for a further week.

 

Prediction: Cheltenham 0-2 Leeds

 

Mk Dons vs. Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere will hope to make it five league games unbeaten when they visit MK Dons this weekend.

 

For MK Dons, Shaun Cummings and goalkeeper Willy Gueret miss out through suspension. Aaron Wilbraham and Florian Sturm are both injury doubts but may return this weekend. Craig Dobson and Danny Swailes will definitely be sidelined. Lewis Price should wear the goalkeeper jersey.

 

For Tranmere, Ian Goodison and Ben Chorley are injury doubts so Gareth Edds and Aaron Cresswell stand by to feature some part. Andy Taylor will miss the game through suspension.

 

Prediction: Dons 1-2 Tranmere

 

Leicester City vs. Bristol Rovers

Leicester haven’t recorded a league win in their past four outings and will hope to change that when Bristol Rovers visit.

 

For Leicester, Kerrea Gilbert and Matt Oakley are both fitness doubts and will undergo late fitness tests. Stephen Clemence, DJ Campbell and Paul Dickov all remain injured.

 

For Bristol, Steve Elliott is rated as 50/50 after returning to training this week. Danny Coles is likely to be sidelined for a further month after undergoing cartilage surgery. Joe Jacobson and Ryan Green featured in midweek reserve team action and travel with the squad.

 

Prediction: Leicester 2-2 Bristol

 

Southend United vs. Colchester United

Colchester United will hope to improve their recent inconsistent form when they visit neighbours Southend this weekend.

 

Southend will be without Dougie Freedman and Lee Barnard this weekend, who are both struggling with injuries. Southend are likely to name an unchanged team against Colchester.

 

For Colchester, Matt Lockwood, Paul Reid and Steven Gillespie will both miss the derby through injury. Besides this, Colchester have a full strength squad at their disposal.

Prediction: Southend 2-0 Colchester

Peterborough United vs. Hereford United

Peterborough will hope to keep their impressive recent unbeaten streak when they host Hereford on Saturday.

 

For Peterborough, Dean Keates and Chris Westwood still remain sidelined through injury along with Jamie Day and Shane Blackett. Darren Ferguson looks set to name an unchanged side from last week as they hope to make it eleven unbeaten.

 

For Hereford, Nick Chadwick misses out through suspension. They will also be without the services of Robbie Threlfall, Sam Oji and Moses Ashikodi. Richard Jackson remains an injury doubt.

Prediction: Peterborough 2-0 Hereford

 

Leyton Orient vs. Hartlepool United

Hartlepool will aim to achieve a fifth successive league win when they play Leyton Orient, who are on dismal form.

 

For Orient, Sean Thornton should start after impressing midweek from the subs bench. Alton Thelwell also returns from injury whilst Wayne Gray and Loick Pires remain in the treatment room.

 

For Hartlepool, they are expected to name an unchanged side for the sixth successive game. Willie Boland remains a long-term injury doubt whilst Kevin Kyle plays his last game on loan.

 

Prediction: Orient 1-2 Hartlepool

Stockport County vs. Carlisle United

Stockport will hope to make it four league games unbeaten when they host Carlisle, who have been the subject of dismal performances over the past month.

 

For Stockport, Craig Davies looks set to make his debut having signed on loan today.

 

For Carlisle, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson should return to the fray. Peter Murphy, Michael Bridges, Paul Thirlwell and keeper Ben Williams all remain injured whilst Richard Keogh is suspended for one further match.

Prediction: Stockport 2-1 Carlisle

 

Walsall vs. Northampton Town

Walsall will hope to register their first league win in six games when Northampton visit this weekend.

 

Walsall have a fully fit side to chose from as they hope to notch up three points. Skipper Stephen Hughes recovers from a virus whilst Sofiene Zaaboub came through last week’s defeat against Leeds unscathed.

 

For Northampton, Loanee Scott McGleish is expected to play some part. Adebayo Akinfenwa , Colin Larkin, Luke Guttridge and Liam Davis are all sidelined.

Prediction: Walsall 1-0 Northampton

 

Huddersfield Town vs. Crewe Alexandra

Huddersfield will see Saturday’s fixture as an ideal opportunity to move up the table as they play bottom placed Crewe.

 

For Huddersfield, captain Chris Lucketti may feature having completed his suspension. Danny Cadamarteri may return to first team action but Andy Booth remains sidelined.

 

For Crewe, Billy Jones returns after completing his ban and is likely to play with a number of players sidelined. Michael O'Connor, Danny Woodards, Julien Baudet, Chris McCready and George Abbey are all injury doubts.

 

Prediction: Huddersfield 2-1 Crewe
