Stopping A Clear Goalscoring Opportunity

Recommended Posts

Here's an oddity in the rules.

If a defender handles on the line, it's a penalty and the defender gets sent off.

If, from a bad back pass (as happened in the Sunderland v Wolves game today), a goalkeeper makes a save with his hands to stop the ball hitting the net it's merely an indirect free kick and no card.

Comparable offences with very different outcomes.
