  1. I love it. I love it because you get recognised and in some ways respected by other fellow 'true' fans. Even the corporate juggernaut of Stretford have 'true fans' and the few I know know that I support Oldham and don't look at me mouthing "W-H-O?" unlike so many other plastic, pathetic pondlife who regard themselves as fans when even I've been to Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge (albeit if a crumbling wreck of a ground) and Anfield more times than them.

To us it's more than just going to watch a game of football. It somehow means that much more to get the first goal against the divisions weakest team, like we did last Saturday. We don't stand up, politely clap and then quickly return our arse to the seat, we savour it... punch the air and embrace each other.

I love the fact that even through years of painful, glum 0-1 defeats at home and comprehensive defeats on the road, days like Everton (a), Man City (h) and Derby (a) come round, and round, and round. I love listening to the radio when they're banging on about The Greatest League On Earth (© The Premier:censored:e) then even little old us get a mention about something which gives me a warm feeling when a fan of the big faceless clubs wouldn't really bat an eyelid.

I love that the 20+ years I've been going to watch Latics, that I know so many fellow fans, whether it be by mates and names, to a knowing nod to the guy you sat opposite to coming back from an away game in 1992. I love how we've "seen it all", to the insane highs of competing with the best in England, to the lowest lows when we all feared for the future of OAFC.

And most of all I love how right now we're starting to settle down, with the same manager for 3 years, same owners for 5 years and promising (but not overly ambitious) plans for our future as well as a team that seems to be bearing the fruit of the last couple of years hard work.

  2. I was sat in the stand near the Rochdale rd end when the Ronnie Blair 'goal' against Man Utd wasn't seen by the Ref. we've all seen the photos since of the ball nestled in there near the stantion. I was beside myself. Then we went on to win through Maurice Whittle. I went down to the ground on the Monday and got Maurice ti sign my programme!

  3. e-zine just seen a post on the e-zine ,thats says shez might not be incharge next season?

Of course there are flaws in Shez's management skills. He is still a newcomer to the job. I would give him another 3 years (5 in total) as long we are not in any danger of going down. He has done wonders this season with a decimated squad.

  4. What happens in training is rarely relative to what happens in the course of a match.

All training seems to do in our case is extend our injury list.

Blue Sue has a good point - As long as the fans ANDShez aren't on the players backs, we may just see a more confident and relaxed side (It worked yesterday!).

Last season I mentioned JS was too harsh on some of the players and should allow them to show some of their own creativity instead of ranting about what he wants them to do - I honestly believe that affected some of the players then, and I still think it is the case this season. So far there is nothing to suggest otherwise.

Maybe because the club has said this week in the press that they think we are out of contention for the playoffs, this has been done deliberately to take pressure off the young players and allow them to relax and play their natural game as they did yesterday. If that is the case, surely it is good management.

  5. You really are stupid, I would rather see our youngsters then journeyman...

There can be few if any teams in the league who have a worse injury list than us. Shez often surprises me with some of his decisions and tactics but to keep us on the edge of the playoff positions with the injuries he's had is pretty good going. I am looking forward to next season, mounting a true bid towards the playoffs, because seriously you have to think that the TTA dont really want us to go up this season. Next year, new ground etc. bring it on!

  6. Well Rocky, you have just described a certain old man i had a run in with. if he had a lad about 13 with him its deffo him, but thats not guarenteed. i got told he had moved his season ticket to the lookers, hope he stays there when the demolition guys move in

We call the guy 'care in the community' and decided he'd not had his medication last night. Never heard racist comments though.

  7. The stewards in general at Oldham are shocking and power mad. Was there any need for the amount of stewards there tonight? The one in the purple jacket who 'organises' the stewards is the most OTT steward I've seen. When Eardley's shot which hit the post he came over to one of the ethnic stewards and b*llocked him for not standing up when the crowd raises - What is that guy on? 2-0 up against a team who are pretty much down and yet they still organise them to stop people running on the pitch! Sorry but I hate stewards with passion..

The stewards often cause more trouble than they solve. A few weeks ago, my daughter's friend was ejected from the Chaddy for smoking! The lad has never smoked a cigarette in his life but because someone threw a fag and it landed at his feet, he was unceromoniously ejected despite his protests!

  8. Yes decent players in our league are already playing for the team so wont be sold. And to take a player from the league below we need to be offering enough money for a club to part with one of their first team players. I.e Rochdale getting 300k for Glenn Murray. Would you like to see us spendin that much on him?

My daughter and her friends were sure they saw Ritchie Wellens arriving at the game today. Was he just there to support his old teammates or was it more significant?
