  1. To address some points. Firstly to the poster who said something about a surgeon doing operations they haven't done in a while- that should only happen in either an emergency or if it is something very complicated because everyone gets out of practice and its much better to get a more junior member of the team to do a simple operation that they do every day than to get a senior member of the team to do the same operation which they do once a month but that's kinda by the by.

Match fitness is NOT the same as cardiovascular fitness- the players cardiovascular fitness should have been OK as you can do treadmill, swimming, indoor biking type stuff to keep that up. However you can't replicate the process of running around and kicking balls/tackling/jumping/other general activities used in football to the same level as you need to (you can get close). Players' bodies needs to get re used to the different muscle movements for football compared to general running. There is a reason why European football competitions take a break during the winter months as those teams in countries where they tale winter breaks would be at a severe disadvantage if they were playing a team where they don't have a winter break due to the difference in fitness. You could in theory run the training to the same intensity as games if you have a prolonged period of absence but that way you run the risk of more injuries.

It isn't just football where the pros suffer when they've been away, it happens in boxing (aka ring rust), cricket (hence why they have practice matches prior to test series, as opposed to simply nets), golf, in fact almost any sport. It would be simpler if instead of referring to the lack of practice as being not match fit they said lack of match practice which would be the more accurate description.

good points on some of the technicalities.

but there is still no valid argument which explains why a `professional football player/or players , who are physically capable, cannot maintain or even excel in keeping up fitness levels in between a match, however long the gap.

if the training regime is kept intensive, then any athlete should be totally ready in every way.

ffotball in general seems to use the old `not mat fit` or `lacks match practise` way too easily and the too many fans take it as a valid reason........ it`s total bull.

rochdale easily continuing on their unbeaten/ winning streak after a lengthy lay off like us recently are living proof.

  2. Jesus, I'm sure enough people know Ackey that his side of the story will come out, if there is one at all. Untwist your knockers gentlemen.

on a totally selfish note........i would love to think that he`s give em what`s for on behalf of us lot regarding the mess we`re in, and that it just may begin to turn the tide from within.

but more importantly......hope he`s ok whatever the reason is.

  3. what a load of crap do you play football? Match sharpness comes over time as I can vouch for over the last few months as I have been overcoming a bad injury!!

a bit late coz i`ve been away.......

the point is that `CRAP` is what we were against tranmere.......... not just one player who is 60/70% fit after injury comeback..........the totally silly excuse of " the whole squad were rusty or jaded ".......i mean come on??

football as a whole has made a myth into reality for some and they just say " oh, okay then, that explains it".........CRAP !!

  4. I dont agree to be honest.

Ive seen enuff fighters train for fights seemingly OK and then come ring time the ring rust is there for all to see wheather it be a like of conditioning or timing or concentration

Taylors first touch on wednesday was dire i put that down to not having a enuff game time. Smally and Pav were the same Pav has an excellent touch normally but it wasnt there for him

Penny had admitted they havent played 11 a side for 3 weeks and it all hinders the team come match day. THey looked like stangers against tranmere. I think most of them were physically fit enuff to run around but all the bits that come with playing regulary football like anticipation, awareness, touch were all missing.

That said ud think they wouldnt have looked as sluggish as they did at times

    nooooo !

the whole point is the word `PROFESSIONAL`.......well paid sportsmen....full time sportsmen........who are ther for hours every day honing their skills....training hard........eating properly.........getting fully prepared for a sporting event.

this is not N.W.C.L football.....this is pro` football.....there is no room for such excuses...it is bullsheet.

do not accept it any longer.

  5. all this `not match fit ` malarkey is total bullshjt......

it is a total myth and a very poor excuse churned out by many..and believed by too many more in football.

THINK about it.....would you accept a top surgeon botching a routine bit of surgery on you coz he hasn`t "performed that particular procedure for three weeks" ??.

or would it be acceptable that a world champ boxer was `ring rusty` after losing a big fight coz "all he`s been able to do for the last 3 months is merely train for it" ??

or would it be acceptable that jenson button coming in last at F.1 coz it`s been "a whole three weeks since his last race" and that`s why he wasn`t up to pace??

it`s so simples......... we are talking` PROFESSIONALS` here.......even o.a.f.c fall within that bracket and have professional training /dieticians/trainers/physios/managers etc.

anyone, and i mean anyone who chooses to continue subscribing/accepting or believing the utter crap that somehow footballers are `different than the countless other professions in terms of fitness and readiness come match time is as bad as the idiots they are believing.

after so much time on the sidelines recently due to the weather, our so called professionals should have been absolutely bursting with fitness , and ready to apply themselves from the off.

  6. I can never remember a time when the football played was so uninspiring. Short on goals since the start of the season with only Pav as an out and out striker. Bring in Blackman and not played? Ship out O'Grady. Bring in Heff who goes back and sign Goodwin. On tonights performance, the problems we have were identified before the season and not adressed are still the ones killing us. Goals win games, wins breed confidence and retains fans. If you can't score you can't win and soon as you concede there is no way back.

I have been a season ticket holder for 32 years. This will be my last season. The team is littered by identikit journeymen with no affiliation or loyalty to the club. There is a reveloving door every summer and a new team starts out again. The quality of football on display has plummeted to unimaginable depths and the hunger that was promised from a new younger team is completely lacking. If as a professional footballer you cannot raise your game against relegation rivals and show endeavor and commitment then you do not deserve to represent my club. If the manager cannot motivate the team for an important game then you too do not deserve to represent my club. A lack of quality I can accept, A lack of spirit I cannot.

    Worrried - Yes

    excellent!! :applause1:

  7. amazing innit mr s how two people watching the same person both have completley different opinions about his style of play...it's like me i like dean brill...three thousand beg to differ does that mean that i am wrong..???

i don`t think it`s his `style` of play that we differ on too much......it`s what level we think he can cut it at.......i`m pretty sure mr beckford, and mr dagnall et-al, will only have been seen by many as `half decent` non leaguers for most of their careers prior to someone finally seeing they could make the step up.

lee blackshaw can certainly step up, and would be superb on our left flank, but our club historically has a real stigma re: non-leaguers.....it`s like they are not even worth a look,or invitation to trial??

  8. Win our next few games with ease and we'll be on the bounds of the top 6, then we always win the big games so we'll win some more, then with momentum we'll make the top 6. Then being the form team we should cruise the playoffs. No cups or anything to worry about like the FA CUP & JPT, really good planning on DP's mind there. So with a few wins we'll be the leagues form and danger team. We've a team full of battlers who give 100% and will fight to get us promoted as you can tell by the bookings table. We've the best player outside the Prem, tats to come back, one of the greatest strikers in this league Pav to come back, not mentioning holdsworth, jacobson, o'grady, parker and many more to come back, we'll have a strong in depth squad. 4 goals, 2 unbeaten and a big attendance in the lsat game at BP all point to a great run. the bookies are such mugs, ill be getting a big bet on us to get promoted, winning the league i agree will be a bit far fetched, but promotion looks a distinct possiblity.

you know what?........you could have a very valid point there?

    happy new year :)

  9. Someone in the mould but nowhere near their level yet, I'm sure there are some knocking around in non league.

`lee blackshaw` at mossley fc is perfect........watched him loads of times.

left footed attacking winger.......cool as a cucumber.......consistently leaves the opposition for dead......total ball control......fast as f**k......great awareness,,,,,,,superb accuracy in delivery of ball long or short.......he`s got the lot believe me, and would easily cut it ( and shine ) at this level......even beyond.

  10. would you be motivated to wear our blue shirt after reading pennys totally tactless comment before you were recalled to b.park ???

Penney admitted: "He wasn't going to get a look-in here if things would've gone to plan. But, obviously, with the injuries we've had, we need him back here now."

think about it folks???..........that comment was proper numpty.

  11. I have seen Stockport three times this season.

Latics, even in recent weeks, are easily a better team than County and will finish above them!

after watching us do a complete wimp of a performance against leeds the second time around, using the exact same totally ineffective tactics, i find it difficult to imagine how you realistically think we are easily better than anybody in this division.

ok granted, i have not seen county this season.......but either way you look at it, no matter how she-ite they may be, their `on target` shots ratio is twice as good as ours during `recent weeks`...... 60 shots to our mere 30.

i for one am not taking anything for granted this season re `the lower teams`.........we are one, and we are in danger.

  12. On the way back from Manchester this morning I pulled off Broadway and saw that the team were training so I pulled into the carpark and walked over to the railings, Pawel Abbott was doing gentle jogging round Ferney Fields, I asked him how the operation had gone, his reply was that the second one went well! I asked when he would be back, the reply was "I'm hoping to be back in 2 weeks time" He then went back into the compound and was doing short sharp left foot passing, nothing too strenuous, I then concentrated on what was going on the training pitch.....7 a-side, 3 minute/ 2 minute, 3 touch play.

End of training session: I was expecting to see a 15-20 minute warm down...... nets picked up/ balls bagged away and cones collected end of training session, I can now see why there are so many muscle strains, but even so the players should be doing this themselves and not just when prompted to by Penney, by the time they have got back to the dressing room their muscles would have tightened up :disappointed:

i vaguely remember our beloved physio marc thingummyjig saying on his appointment that thigh/calf/groin/or any other type of these common strains as being a cardinal sin whilst the squad are under him as most of them can be prevented through correct training methods.......where the heck is he in this ???......the players are falling like flies under his care.

  13. still reckon o`grady is overrated......o`grady is thriving at dale coz of the excellent support play all around him......95% of passes to him are accurately placed to his feet......there is always some-one overlappig or to square it to......he never has to play deep to get a sniff of the ball........and he very rarely has a HOOOOOOOF to deal with...............he`s had a strikers life of luxury while at dale.

he`s in for a rude awakening when he comes back to b.park to play under the penny system !!!!

  14. Im surprised someone didnt really push them on this issue, as even Simon Corney addmitted, that the food service is crap (probably that most the time there isnt any). Makes you wonder that even if one of the club's owners know of the food issues that they cant do anything about it due to the contract with the companys providing the services.

tta have personally made sure that all the players and staff have at least 2 square meals each day at the clubs expense........

so they are clued up i`m sure.

  15. Stats are great for showing you what has just happened for you to make your point but are :censored: :censored: at predicting what happens in the future as demonstrated by one posters inane predictions on here masquerading as betting tips. Have a good look at Stockport's fixtures and then have a good look at our fixtures until the 16th of Jan (when we are scheduled to play them at their place) can you seriously see Stockport making up a 7 point gap in that time- no. Stockport are going to struggle to stay up this season but considering their fans were half expecting them to go out of business over the summer I don't hear of too many complaints.

if stockport continue in playing their more positive attacking footie as they are doing, they are twice as likely to score in that time.....they may not even have to make up a gap of 7 points.....coz the way we are consitently playing of late, it is us who will be losing a 7 point gap to them.

i`m not trying to be smart, or truly predict anything, it`s just that i can clearly see a trend of play between the two teams were stockport are much stronger than us......and i am genuinely concerned that we are the weaker of the two, and before we know it.......!!

but yes........let`s see what january looks like.

  16. This is not really surprising - it merely highlights the downward spiral that we currently find ourselves in...

However - the revival starts on Saturday at home to Exeter and continues at Wycombe and then on boxing day - happy days are just around the corner <_<

my heart is with you on that..........but my head tells me pennys ultra cautious/lone stiker/hoofball tactics will still be there with no real go at em plan b.

  17. wether or not you realise it, our `lowly` neighbours...... stockport.......propping up league one.......will move above us very soon if both teams current form continues...........

it`s like a stealth thing.......it`s happening in the background, and before you know it....too many will be saying "WTF !!".

THE FIGURES AND FACTS AIN`T LYING.

game for game, over the last 10 played. stockport have had 60 `on target` shots on goal to our 30......that`s twice as many shots as us folks...... they have also scored twice as many goals than us....10 to our 5.......they have won twice as many games than us...2 to our 1........and they have even conceded less goals......14 to our 16.......oh and they have created 1/3rd more corners than us....57 to our 38.....and this is their bottom club form!!

if they continue plugging away til the seasons end with that form, and we with ours, one thing is for certain, they will end up above us, and even if it`s by one place, ie; second from bottom, it means we will end up propping up the league instead of them !!

those are the facts folks, a lot of effort has gone into compiling those stats....coz i really care about this club....and i`m genuinely worried about both our form and our future.

  18. Brill is the only reason i have any doubt about Penney being the right man for the job. He comes across as so credible in everything he does apart from his selection of.....and continued blindness to......the fact that Brill isn't anywhere near the standard required to be successful at this level. It's not anything like a matter of confidence. Consecutive clean sheets builds confidence and we've had that.....did he venture off his line to resemble (nay, even pretend) that he might one day command just a small portion of that little box he goes to work in? No. You get that instinct at the academy, it's not something you learn in front of paying customers!

    :applause1::applause1::applause1:

  19. NOW ENTER WHAT YOU THINK,THEY ACTUALLY MEANT

There's been a lot of positivity about the ground move...the local businesses in Failsworth are particularly supportive, lots of letters, phone-calls emails and texts received in support.--- ( NO MENTION HERE OF THE `ACTUAL PEOPLE` OF FAILSWORTH BEING SUPPORTIVE AS THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT ).

some people aren't true believers about the new stadium or convinced by the necessity of the move- (THE MAJORITY ADD UP TO MORE THAN `SOME` !!

need a stadium with four sides, pleasant to visit and able to entertain guests- (YEAH...WE COULD SELL A HULL OR STOKE STADIUM ALL DAY LONG, BUT NOT THE ONE WE HAVE ALLOWED TO RUN DOWN TO THE BARE BONES ).

still a little bit of opposition and not reported correctly, sensitive to opposition but we are the custodians of the club and we think it will be of benefit to the club and it is the right decision - not a done deal.- ( `A LITTLE BIT OF OPPOSITION`...`SENSITIVE TO IT`- REALLY MEANS A LOT OF OPPOSITION, AND WER`E ONLY A `LITTLE` SENSITIVE TO IT.....AND `WE` ARE UN-DEMOCRATICALLY PLOUGHING AHEAD ANYWAY....REGARDLESS.

Some people just don't want change-....(BUT WE ARE CAREFULLY PLOTTING A COURSE WHICH ALL OPPOSITION WILL HAVE TO ADHERE TO EVENTUALLY).

Still hoping to break ground in the Spring- ( MOST PROBS ON APRIL FOOLS DAY)

Corney reckons the training and professionalism and camaradery is the best in his 6 years- ( LIKE, YEAH MAN...ANYTHINGS BETTER THAN THE LAST 5 REGIMES WE`VE PAYED OUT FOR ).

Pleased for Brill in his upturn in form (must be pre-Southampton)- ( COZ DAVE MADE A RIGHT COCK UP LETTING FLEMING GO OUT `ONE WAY ONLY` TIL BLOODY JANUARY ).

Newton reckons the new ground will be the catalyst for increased crowds and that will bring success on the pitch- ( EVEN THE NAME `FAILS-WORTH` DOES`NT RING ANY ALARM BELLS WITH US ).

Penney - culture of inclusion, professionalism translating itself onto the pitch- ( BUT WE DO HAVE EXCEPTIONS, Eg- NO COMPETITION FOR KEY DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ).

Mood in the camp is a marked improvement on previous regimes, training hard- ( NO MORE SHEZ BRINGING A CRATE OF ALE IN FOR THE LADS TO HELP WITH PRE-TRAINING WARM UP ).

Loanees - Corney do we ever say no?.... (.I`LL LET MR NEWTON ANSWER THAT ONE).

Newton - We'll have to see how viable the request is. ( IF IT`S KEEPER , OR C-B COVER THEN `NO`...BUT MORE MID-FIELDERS ARE WELCOME ).
