If anyone does write it you are welcome to add my own particular angle to it. Firstly it was only half an hour after the game, going ballistic and still being in the Chaddy that I realised I had betting slips in my wallet worth £175+. I'd started with £5 ew at 8/1 at the start of the season and as the odds remined the same for several weeks kept having another couple of quid here and there. I even had some on the morning of the match as we were still odds against. That amount of money had been totally forgotten in the euphoria of that game and winning the league which I think says a lot.

Secondly you will remember the roof had been taken off the Chaddy in preparation for the demolition. My girlfriend and I therefore failed to hear the dulcet tones at Alan Hardy at half time (he never had the mike out of his mouth that year) and missed the announcements.

The following day my girlfriend's dad rang to say he'd met a mate in the pub on the saturday night who said was that your lass who won the £500 in the Starline draw this afternoon? Happy days, not so much the icing on the cake but the cherry, the flake and the hundreds and thousands as well.

(Redders pen was still the best bit!)

The other great memories of that penalty for me were: -

Neil Adams swinging off Redders and flying into a supporter invading the pitch :stretcher: and a young lad with a pathetic owl suit on.

  2. IF.......... he wants to go then a large wad of cash and Rory Fallon would do for me.......If he wants to stay he should sign a new contract A.S.A.P

Good call, Fallon is just what we need. Big bustling forward! Just depends what cash we'd get on top. Fallon cost Plymouth 300k this time last year, a then record signing, but Blake has kept him out this year.

  3. Can't believe you compared somebody performance at work who works 40+a week: to a footballer who playes 90 min, 180 mins tops, of competitive football per week. Right so we can't expect 180mins per week from a player giving 110%???? I don't care if they don't have the skill but all of I ask of them is to gve their best effort for such a short time--no excuses IMO.

To be honest I think your comment is a slap in the face to every hardworking person out their!!

No, the very essence of the point is that players don't just play 90-180 mins per week. They watch what thay eat 24/7 and train throught their proffessional life.....hence why I mentioned DEDICATION. I am one of those hard working people, I'm not slapping anyone, including mysef, in the face. While I agree that they should give 100% sometimes things don't come off and this may appear that mr a might not give their all. Cheer up fella, relax a little! :towork:

  4. Rick,

You miss-understand me mate, seems like you are very selective with your quotes. Firstly, yes I will have a moan at the players who do not give 110%, considering most of us would give our right arm to be in their position as professional footballers--the least they can do is give it their all. However, I desperatly want oldham to be successful and I am one of few, like yourself, in the upper-lookers who'll get up chant and generally get behind the team when they do good things on the pitch.

Do me the favour of quoting the whole of my message next time instead being selective in order to suit your agenda.

    cheers.

Do you give 110% every minute of every day at your job?? Maybe you do but I'm sure the times when you drop below that mark you wouldn't like it if everyone shouted that "you were s**h**i**t". :bigcry: You also have had the opportunity to be in their position, but you either was not good enough or didn't have the dedication. :clown: For the umpteenth time during the game be a supporter and support, :help::zigga: after have your say. Moaning never achieved anything.

However, I do NOT support the notion of promotion asap at all cost. That is a pure recipe for disaster longer term. Something which several people are unable or unwilling to grasp.

I'm not worried about promotion, i'm more worried about the opposite end of the league. 6 points clear of relegation with some real tough encounters on the horizon and a squad that isn't going to get us through a really tough period in the next month. Injuries and bans could cripple us. Look at last season, when we tried to win promotion with 11 men....

10 games in 38 days are gonna take their toll, so reinforcements are imperative

38 days to make or break the season. TBH can't see us going up or down.

  6. From a purely selfish point of view, when I'm in the Chaddy End I really don't care what the atmosphere is like around the ground. If the Chaddy End is rocking it will enhance my enjoyment of the game. If the players on the pitch can hear us as well then that's a bonus (as long as the support is positive :) ).

Can't hear us in the rest of the ground? Not my problem, make your own noise.

The problem at the moment is that even under a roof that supposedly keeps all the noise in, there's no atmosphere in the Chaddy End itself. The number of singers has dwindled over the years, for a number of reasons, such as singers moving to other stands, starting to bring young kids with them, or simply stopping going. The challenge now is to do something about it. In my opinion those of us prepared to make some noise need to group together. At present I believe there are too many factors stopping this from happening e.g. people are settled where they currently sit. The re-development of the ground will force first the NSM dwellers, then the Chaddy Enders, to move elsewhere. The impression I get is that the 'Paddock Army' are likely to move to the RRE. I'm prepared to do likewise, on my visits to BP. I'm not a ST holder so have the freedom to do this. Problem is, without the club's blessing, ST holders in the other stands won't be able to.

me me me me my my my my i i i, glad YOU'RE happy. The point of a good atmosphere is not just to enjoy it but to give the team a lift. Having said that you are quite correct that singers should get together.

  7. My point is Rocky, there is always a team or two that gets dragged right into it and whilst our away form is a bonus that's all it is until we start winning at home. IMO if we do not bring in the desired quality I can see us flirting about in the bottom 6 or 7, the teams down there traditionally hit purple patches, look at Orient last season, everyone thought they were dead and buried at one point. Look how Bradford dropped like a stone or in previous seasons Grimsby and Rushden. We are not too good to go down and are probably one or two injuries away from our season being turned on is head.

Live up to yopur name and hit the prozac fella! JESUS, :censored: it get the valium while you're at it. Oh by the way your glass IS half empty too.

  8. Just found the attached link whilst bored at work.... I know its an age old debate - But I firmly believe the atmosphere would be much better if we moved to the RRE.......

One things for sure I bet the Chaddy End would not be mentioned in this thread if away fans were housed in there....

    http://footballgroundguide.ipbhost.com/ind...showtopic=15647

Totaly agree! Not only would the atmosphere be better but we could sell ale in there too  That would in turn set off a chain reaction singing and booooozin and drinkin and boooooozin and ginkin n shinin n zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ^_^

  9. No it is not. That is a long term spectator. A spectator spectates, watches. A supporter supports the team, gives support and encouragement, is supportive.

    Massive difference.

So so so TRUE! Nice one Rick  QUOTE "I've supported the team for 30 years blah blah, so I can moan blah blah. As Rick says SUPPORTers

  10. :disappointed:

Let's stop all this nonsense about the moaners being to blame for poor performances.

I have watched Latics for 35 years and there have ALWAYS been moaners. Yesterday for 90 minutes I shouted nothing but encouragement to a team that looked like they thought they'd done their seasons work last week at Everton and couldn't be arsed to concentrate. Everyone has a right to moan about that shocking performance against 10 men.

Whilst I was shouting encouragement, who was the only person I could hear yelling abuse at the players? JOHN SHERIDAN that's who! He never once said anything positive, and at the end of the game I suddenly decided that maybe I might as well have just joined the moaners.

This morning I have read all sorts of ridiculous posts about the terraces being too open, the fans getting on the players backs, the shirts being the wrong colour and more, but the fact is that NOTHING has changed in the last 35 years. Everything is still the same apart from the fact we are now clutching at straws looking for excuses.

Quite simply, there was no motivation (God knows what was said at half time again), a team that to a man decided to go against JS' principles of playing simple football, and a forward who is that worried about possibly losing his place to Leon Clarke that he feels he has to score himself, when three assists would have made him a darn sight more popular.

On top of that, we have a terrible home record that is clearly preying on the players minds (And maybe needs to be addressed by a professional psychologist - not a football coach), another ineffectual substitution, and a mis informed notion on the part of some players that THEY are OAFC and not the fans.

I have seen all the highs and some much worse lows than we are currently experiencing, and listened to the moaners at home AND at away games at almost every ground in the football league, and the bottom line will never change - the players or manager must accept responsibility for poor performances.

Latics proved what they are capable of at Leeds and Everton, and then didn't put half the commitment, effort or thought into Brighton - That is just cause for a good moan.

By the way, I am considering walking round the town next week for ninety minutes collecting £18 off people who want to verbally abuse me for the duration of that time. I might even kick a ball around to pass the time. Any takers?

Agree to certain point. You do have the right to moan, but wouldn't it generally be better after the game? Support during the game. Shez gets paid to bollock/encourage the players and we as club currently trust him with that resposibility. I have been going to Latics for 30+ years too and in that time there has always been moaners, but that doesn't mean we can't improve in the future. The attitude of some is I've paid my money thats enough-no extra effort required, I'm sorry but if thats the case other clubs who have a higher level of encouragement towards their players will gain an advantage. If TTA had an attitude of we rescued the club, thats it, we dont have to build a new stadium or invest in players etc! Where would we be heading??? Whinging never improved anything! Granted, having total support wont turn us into european champions but if it gets us 1 point it's worth it.

By the way. I'm being a smart ar_se on owtb next week anyone wanna pay me £18?
