Don't post much nowadays, mainly just read the posts, but in today's Press conference he states "while I'm here" sounds a bit ominous to me.

    Ian G.

To be fair he said that a few times last season e.g  "while I'm here, we'll always try to win every game ". I think it's just his turn of phrase.

Having said that, he must be aware  of the rumours eminating from the French press and the fact that they were spot on when it came to naming players we were going to sign.

    I've seen:

    Oldham Times

    Oldham Reporter

    MEN (Oldham Edition)

    and now Oldham Chronicle.

I'm willing to support a local newspaper. Had the Chron publically stated it was struggling I may have supported it anyway.

    BUT

I'm not buying four different publications!

You don't need to. Almost all the content is or will be available online. Which I guess is part of the probem they have being economically viable.

  3. We might be spoilt for choice for Latics coverage in the local press soon.

The new Oldham Times have employed an ex Chron sub-editor to do Latics coverage, Matt Chambers has gone to the MEN and the level of Latics coverage has increased notably since then. They've  also started an Oldham edition. Then, if Revolution are successful in ressurecting the Chron, that will be another source of local coverage.

Reckon the comments above are right, lose at the weekend and he'll be gone. Which is a shame, because I still think we'd have a better, and more enjoyable season with Shez than anybody else, even if it's probably justifiable, if you look at our points so far.

I'm not so sure. I don't think Corney will pull the plug on Shez, given that he knows Abdallah will do that anyway once the takeover/investment is sorted.

I think he'll wait until the deal is over the line and let Abdallah stand in the firing line for that decision.

  5. Unfortunately I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this as clickbait. These obscure French news outlets have proved to be fairly accurate in recent weeks with regard to our signings. Mahouche, Placide and Menig were all reported in France several days before the club announced them.

Sounds like a rumour made up on here (or Twitter...)

Nixon's probably had a look at Abdallah's website and the first out of work (active) manager he's come too, stuck it in the paper...

That or had a DM off Ibby

I think that's probably exactly how he came up with Walter Zenga's name and it's just a guess in the same way Ibby guessed ten Cate.

Unfortunately his sources on the Shez exit part of the story are probably more solid.

So the Belgian Sidney wasn't one of the Abdallah 7?

Belgian Sidney ? You've lost me now.

If you mean Gyamfi, he obviously came before news of Abdallah became public and was here before the batch of  7 trialists arrived but I suspect he could well have come from Abdallah's contacts. Seems a bit of a random pick for Shez to have come up with through his contacts.

    Now I'm confused....who are the Abdallah 7?

    How many have signed?

He was tweeting on deadline day that 7 foreign trialists were here and were due to sign for us. But these were not Sheridan's picks.

Then they didn't sign on deadline day(or at least they weren't announced) and Sheridan brought players in that he wanted.

It seems, according to Nixon, that they have stayed at the club and are still training with us. But he doesn't know how many have/will sign. All are free agents with the exception of Queensy, who's loan signing has been announced by Nantes but not us.

Radio Manchester have also said that they understand there will be further signings announced in the next few days.

Nepomuceno and Queensy are the only 2 that have been named so far, as far as I'm aware.

Good point.  Nixon claims he was due here today as a triallist for the Everton match but didn't turn up.  Why a triallist if he's here on loan.

Strange thing about Nixon.  Seems to have a very keen interest in Oldham, regularly posting about us and follows Ibby.  If he wasn't a reporter for The Sun and authenticated on Twitter I wouldn't be surprised if he was a regular poster on here!

He gets a lot right but I'd question the reliability of his Oldham 'source' given that last Thursday he tweeted "not a chance" when asked if we might be in for Doyle about an hour before his signing was announced.

Given that Nantes have announced the loan and it was reported he'd signed on Thursday by transfermarkt and others (I.e. before the deadline), I'm not sure how that could be reversed if there's been a change of plan.

That is down to KPMG and missed a trick a one off final paper would have done well. Can only assume just so far in mire no good will to print it.

The paid-for Chronicle had a circulation of 6,408, according to ABC figures to June. It has been experiencing steady circulation decline since 2000 when it sold more than 30,000 copies in the first half of the year. Been told the date significant as month end. Suppose its a good reminder of dont use it lose it stuff changes.

Chron Press Gazette gives a good overview.

Interesting that they specifically mention the pension liabilities.

I can see it being resurrected in some format. I suspect it could be viable without those liabilities and with fewer staff. May be as an online publication with only 1 print edition per week. A lot of regional papers seem to do that now.

  11. I remember back in the pre internet days when the Chron was our only source of Latics news. And they had the 'Stop press' section at the  bottom of the back page for news they got just before going to press. Many a Latics signing announced that way. I seem to remember the circulation was around 50,000 in the early 90s. How times have changed.
