  1. Shocking press conference. Referring to the team he's in charge of as 'Oldham' and 'they' in that context demonstrates a total disconnect that perhaps explains recent poor performances. He's the person in charge and cannot hide behind excuses and disassociate himself from his responsibilities like that. The guy needs a rocket up his arse and told to apolgise and explain his words to his squad. No way would I run through walls for him, a total dick.

Perhaps we need some new fans as well.   A paraphrase from the Oxford commentary:

    Yes,

    .

Have been to a couple of lower league German matches in recent months who were both at foot of the table and the fans were to a person singing in encouragement for 90 minutes. Great experience and infectious.  Those who want to moan and abuse their own players are contributing to poor performances, they know best but ruin the experience for many

  3. The most recent relatively successful season (2006/07) when last reached play-offs started P6 W1 D1 L4, so there's no need to panic yet. In the 16 years since then there have been 24 managerial changes. That's 16 years of disruption and transition that have partly contributed to decline. Changing manager is not a guarantee for improvement. The Board will have to balance the investment made in the players the manager has brought in, the additional investment required in appointing a new manager and the likelihood of improvement. The new players and squad need time to settle and injured players return before big decisions are made.  Personally, I'd tell Unsworth he's got till mid October to get the win percentage above 40% which is achievable, any later than that and it will be difficult to make the play-offs. If it becomes clear he cannot achieve this he goes as soon as.  However, it's not my money he's playing with or pies he's eating.

  4. Inflatables on the pitch on 60min.  Beach balls, rings, lie lows, paddling pools, alligators, dinghy's, light aircraft.  Pitch needs to look like it's been carpet bombed by Toys'r'us …….. may not achieve anything but would be quite amusing and get lots of TV replay.  Small items easy to smuggle in, may need a ninja squad to throw larger items over the wall from outside.  Diversion tactics required to keep security occupied.  Shhhhh, keep it to yourselves, and what ever you do don't put on social media, I tried once and made a total arse of myself.  Most important don't tell my wife, she's shit at secets.

  5. In my first 24 years supporting Latics we had 2 Managers, neither set the football world on fire at the outset as both were novices in management.  Second 24 years have seen us go through 20+ (can't be arsed counting).

Were we simply lucky back then and unlucky now, or are we ignoring that stability breeds success but doesn't come imnediately.

Personally I believe the modern game set-up and players themselves are more often the problem than the manager.   Everyone's now too scared to play risky foitball as it reduces their accuracy percentage come the Monday morning statistical analysis.  It appears players can now make a good living playing percentage football and they judge themselves on high pass and tackle completion rates.

There  won't be a column for working your arse off and making yourself available for your teammates, but I wouldn't be surprised if you get a gold star if your kit doesn't need washing at the end of the game because it saves on the cost of a scoop of Daz.

Stability, patience, hardwork and honesty please from top to bottom.

Get stuck in today lads, play for Oldham because we always dreamed of doing what you do.

  6. Apologies for not being Oldham related but was sad to hear that Kevin Beattie died this week aged  64 - He had been working as a radio pundit on Saturday for Radio Suffolk and died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

For those of a certain vintage he really was a superb player for the best Ipswich team ever  produced which was managed by Bobby Robson who had guys like Mick Mills, Wark,Muhren,Thijssen,Mariner,Brazil and Gates and the  Ipswich Fans regard him as their Greatest Ever Player.

I enjoyed watching him play and although he was mainly a CB he could play anywhere - Bobby Robson said he was the best player alongside Duncan Edwards England had ever produced.

I met him on two occasions and he was a sound down to earth guy - No heirs or graces just a working class guy who was a cracking footballer -  He was so important to Ipswich he was playing nearly every week with cortisone injections and  that did for him as  sadly through injuries  he was finished  and had to retire at 27 - He tried to come back at Middlesborough and in Norway  but he was done to all intents and purposes.

His life after football followed a familiar path for top level players forced to finish early and he bought a pub which led to his downfall on the booze - He lost the lot but eventually got his act together for  the sake of his wife, kids and grandchildren - His wife suffers from MS and he had been her full time carer for the last ten years with his Ipswich radio work being his time away from the caring when his kids watched his wife Maggie.

Rest in Peace Kevin - You really were some football player.

  7. Wow, it has finally dawned on me why 25% of Latics supporters are so intent on complaining at the slightest mistake our players make. - Their true love lies elsewhere.  I honestly cannot understand how people put the success of the National team above the club you share so many emotions with on a weekly basis.  Yes great if England win the World Cup, but more than Latics winning promotion?  never in a million years, even if its from a NW Counties League

  8. I backed Wellens 4 days prior to him being appointed as coach last July.  34 days later I unbacked him when I thought that surely the poor performances couldn't all be down to Shez.  3 days before his temporary appointment as caretaker I backed him again and after 5 games backed him to become permanent manager for another two seasons.  17 days into his  permanent  appointment I unbacked him because of doubts about his experience.  I backed him again for a couple of days in December when we soundly beat Northampton but then unbacked him again because he ruined my Christmas.  I have to admit that although I continued to unback him for the remainder of the season I did back him for about half an hour at Ewood Park.

Overall I probably unbacked him more than backed him.  Like always I'm proposing to back the next manager before his appointment no matter who he is.  That is until I decide to unback him.

This is probably the most pivotal managerial decision of my lifetime.

If it's a first time manager (i.e. Peter Clarke) then I'll be massively underwhelmed and fear for the future of the club.  As good as he might be in the future, now is not the time for a rookie.  If for no other reason than it would smack of desperation and the cheap appointment by AL.

The usual suspects (Clark, Ferguson, Ince, Westley etc.) should not be anywhere near consideration.

I might be unrealistic but I'm expecting a big and proven appointment.  Anything less and I'll be worried about AL's capability to turn us around.

    Dear Mighty Bosh

My name is Dr Budwali Mukumbi, a first cousin of Nigerian Astronaut Major Abacha Tunde.  He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979.  He later took a flight to a secret Soviet military space station in 1989, unfortunately he became stranded there 12 months later when the Soviet Union was dissolved.  His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo and empty vodka bottles.  Since that time there have been occasional supply flights to keep him going, however whilst he remains in reasonable health and good humour he is desperate to come home.

In the 18 years he has been in orbit he has accumulated the equivalent of £24,000,000 in pay and travel expenses.  This money is held in a trust in the Lagos National Bank.  If I can gain access to this money, a down payment of £3,000,000 will enable the current Russian administration to divert the orbiting Soyuz 56-Y and bring him back to earth.  In order to access this trust fund your assistance is kindly requested.

My colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account for subsequent disbursement, since we are employed civil servants we are prohibited from operating foreign accounts in our names.  In return, we have agreed to offer you 20 percent of the transferred sum, while 10 percent shall be set aside for incidental expenses in the course of the transaction.  You will be mandated to remit the 70 percent balance to other accounts in due course.

    Yours kindly

    Dr Budwali Mukumbi

    This for me.

    Disastrous day. Absolutely disastrous.

Can't get as often as I'd like to for numerous reasons, and I totally admire those who go week in, week out no matter what. Heroes !

    - and I don't use the word lightly!

Numerous reasons why we are in this position  - and too many permutations to go into now.

To be honest, we've got away with it several seasons before, and been lucky, - this time not so - unfortunately, - but whatever, - life has to go on.

As Worcester Owl says - look at Fergie - whatever your thoughts - he 's a fellow human being, and that's important.

My thoughts go out to Prozac too.  So wished we could get back to the Championship for you!

Yes, - I wish we had survived, but now we have to face the reality of League 2 unfortunately.

And yes, - there are some who were out there this season weren't fit to wear the shirt, -as we all know- but that's been the case for a few years now.

To me, it says it all when our two youngest, - and two defenders at that, -  score for us today ! - and fair play to them. And I think this sums up our season really!

My concerns came weeks ago when I saw players saying they didn't know or weren't worried where we were in the league table.

I'm sorry, - I may be only be an admin assistant with a local Charity, but, if I didn't know where we were in terms of performance, then I would get my rear end kicked- hard!

Likewise, RW coming out and saying the team were too slow out of the blocks one week, and too quick out of the block the next week, - rang alarm bells.

Anyway, that's all too late now.

I was born in Oldham in 67, and dad's job took us away from the town when I was 4.

I was late to football really , - when I was 7 in 1974, but have been LATICS through and through ever since thanks to him. I took my Adidas school bag with Oldham Athletic proudly blazoned on the side - to school when  I was 11 through to 16 - despite the stick from all the Newcastle and Sunderland fans in the North East, - but didn't care - there was only one team for me, - no matter what.

I was fortunate to be there - thanks to relatives in Oldham - on our promotion to 1st Division, and proudly sang "Oldham till I die!" with the other 19000 in Boundary Park whilst stood in the "Chaddy". Neil Redfearn - hero!

    And that's how it is.

My wife doesn't get it. But it's here - in the heart and the soul of me  - and that's it - end of!

If this club ever folded (Heaven forbid) - then that's me and football done. No supporting City or United as second choices - only one team for me. It runs through my blood, and that's all there is to it!

If we have to do a Wimbledon and come back from 8 leagues down - then so be it. It's in my blood. I can't help it. That's the way I'm made.

    I'M OLDHAM TILL I DIE

     I'M OLDHAM TILL I DIE

     I KNOW I AM , I'M SURE I AM, - I'M OLDHAM TILL I DIE

I know we have a new motto now, but KTF - you know it makes sense !

Hang on in there. It ain't going to be an easy ride back, - but this is Latics - expect the unexpected !!

    Good post mate. 2 points:

    1.  No need for the word 'Only' in your job description

    2.  Judging by your passion you wouldn't have had to wait to have your arse to be kicked by others, you would have kicked your own arse way before then.

    Keep The Faith mate

  11. Tonight's happened we can't change it.  Need to focus now on what we can control and that's by winning our final match. To all those going give them your best support and give them an extra shout for those of us not going.  Remember to cut them some slack when mistakes happen or even if we go a goal or two down, it's only the score after 90 minutes that counts.  After that simply drink and enjoy.

He’s a Yoonited fan who fucked us off twice as a player for the irresistible Doncaster and Shrewsbury...

I don't begrudge him trying to get more money for himself and family, he can sleep every night in United pyjamas under a Doncaster Rovers quilt as long as he keeps us up.
