That might be true but I felt we nearly always looked a better team when Green was playing. I'm convinced that the threat of his pace stretched the oppo and gave our other players more space. The same was true of Reid but that ship has sailed.

In the 16 games Green started we won 6, drew 8, lost 2. Not amazing but better than we managed without him. If we'd replicated that Green Team return (1.625 ppg) over the course of the season we would have made the play offs (75pts). Also worth noting we didn't win another game after he bowed out for the season.

I'd be happy to see him back but if not him then it's imperative that his replacement also has pace to burn, and I'm sure others will say a better end product than Devarn was always able to provide.

I don't mind Green, would give us an option. Think he's another confidence player capable of doing most full-backs in this league for pace but doesn't always go for it.
Grabbed some important goals for us and the odd assistant if he doesn't chew up too much in wages he might be useful to have in and around the squad. It would be nice to sign some really quality wide men.

  2. Dont think there is much chance of Conlon stepping it up. He's not physically up to it at this level. Lightweight and slow.

I like him as a player his debut showed how good he can but in that game he often dropped a little deeper. Unless stop the opposition pressing our midfield he's always going to struggle.

Tactically we need to find a way of freeing him up somehow but I can't see how we do that in a 442. If we sign some genuine pace out wide that might make some space for him I guess.

Stones could be a good signing but we would still need an out and out target man.

Losing Hudson would be a blow

Agree with most of what you say bar the criticism of Fondop, and you're not alone in not rating him. Last night he scored the first and won the free quick for the second. He provides a physical challenge for whoever as the difficult job of marking him, he is the one player on our books who can hold the ball up, When he holds the ball up he nearly always plays the ball to a team mate facing the opposition goal. Very good in the air, he wins countless defensive headers as well as those in the other half.

Is it perhaps time for Oldham fans to stop asking what has Mike Fondop ever done for Oldham Athletic?

He did have some key interventions last night that's undeniable but throughout the season I wonder how many per game he has.

The fact he's the only target man we have is another nod at some of the questionable recruitment we have seen.

That said he's got the shirt at the moment injuries have meant he's come in and he's grabbed a couple. Hopefully, it contines and we get adouble figure out of him for the season.

  4. It's funny people calling for better football. Reminds me slightly of the Ronnie Moore era. Getting results but not by any means playing "attractive football"

For now, I just want wins and I don't care how they come. Last night is a game we normally lose. MM makes sensible changes Hobson shuts down the space they were getting between Sachdev and the centre-backs and Green gives us an outlet.

Defensively we are OK, 3 decent centre-backs for this level and a good LWB when we can get him up the pitch.

Playing devil's advocate though the football isn't brilliant which seems odd with the money spent. I still feel recruitment is a bit odd. Crying out for RWB we signed someone else's youth team player, sounded promising but he's given us the same as Sutton going forward i.e. virtually nothing and he's easily bullied. Boreham played in his area all first half when they came forward last night.

Walker and Dalls have come in both quick something we lack and both seemingly crocks. Unfortunate?

Hammond another strange loan. Doesn't seem to give us much we don't already have - although I think he will improve to a decent standard in time.

Ward looks like a lot of other players who get injured for lengthy spells at a new club - hasn't played much, couldn't tell you want he's supposed to be and we could have taken him off after 10 mins and not missed him.

Garner puts himself about and his experience will help - I doubt you can play him and Norwood up top but i'm glad to see him score hopefully he can add a few more. His layoffs didn't always work but you can tell there was a footballing brain there.

Fondop I still don't rate him, couldn't hold the ball much last night but one big chance and he took which is what we need in games like that.

Lundstram - nearly always gets the ball with his back to the opposition goal, and can drive forwards but is rarely doing. Plays far too deep and leaves a massive gap between himself and the rest of the midfield (which isn't his sole fault)

Conlon did OK but can't help feel he needs help in the centre. He can be our playmaker if he gets support to often the other 2 would either drop backwards or hide. His set pieces were very good tho a nice weapon to have.

2 tough away games now - but they are winnable if we can give ourselves something to defend.

  5. Can't blame Shez much for today. I would have gone for broke and brought Bam and HV at somepoint but apart from that we didn't do too badly..

First 45 there wasn't a huge amount in it. They had some nice crosses into the box but that was about it.

2nd half we switch off at the back and they score. We battle but we don't have any kind of front line. Hope is terrible with a ball in the air and not involved much otherwise. Missle comes on and makes us look instantly better and eventually we grind out a pen.. We have to score. We can't bring onS hez or Liddell or anyone with a decent record from the spot. One of the 11 has to bury it.. We miss it..  This team has been given a fighting chance to stay in the league by the manager but  have made a mess of big opportunities..

Can't see us staying up.. Fage was awful. Tope wasn't great. Hunt had one of his better games for us but the bar is very low. Midfield overall too lightweight. Make shift defence acctually competed well.. Overall Too many of our squad wouldn't catch everyweek in non league. Not sure why Stobbs keeps appearing but all managers have their oddities..

The owners and the dire recruitment have killed us. There's still a glimmer but we have to make big moments in matches count and we don't do it enough.

Exeter were decent, moved it well but they wereabsolute s**** houses as well. Their assistants didn't stop moaning at the 4 official and as soon as we started trying to get at them they put some awful tackles in.

  6. Cog needs dropping to the bench. Even we he does win the ball hes so ponderous he looses it and he struggled to close down allowing them to play out with freedom.

Though pen was soft..there player initiated contact and and the uses george as a pivot then goes over. He did it a few times 2nd half and got nothing.

Subs all looked decent when they came on.

Sp typicall of this division that at the back Swindon were no great shakes. A decebt battling point.

Better recruitment in jan and who knows...

  7. 0--1 away win written all over this (usually)

But Lang seems to be on a bit of a goal scoring run and the defence have been superb recently.

Too much play off talk recently - but the team have made me eat my words. Win this we have a chance. Need everyone down there backing the team.

The chairman won't be going anywhere soon, we aren't Blackpool with a wealthy bloke on the board who's owed money.

Fingers crossed for some luck for a change

  8. Superb performance. From 1 to 11.

Cant fault the effort of any of them.

Thought edmunson and missle really nullified them at times. Two superb goals from lang. They missed mcnulty. Their defence didnt look composed anytime someone ran at them or the ball was played into the channel.

A shame that January's under investment has probably cost us a play off spot.

Im no fan of the chairman not sure boycotting will lead to anything. But for tonight that was an excellent performance just hope they can recover in time for weekend

  9. What we need is an experienced lower leagues manager, who is given time and backing

Not a yes man or in my opinion a manager who has spent 20 years in France.  More than likely going to struggle in league 2 with its lack of talent. It' a division where being big ugly and organised works wonders. Correa's win rate % looks decent but it doesn't mean it will translate to another country's style of play and culture

  10. WE are poor at the moment. Can't keep a clean sheet and powder puff in attack. While the games is fairly sedate we are usually OK but if a team ups the ante on us we don't react and eventually pressure builds and we concede.

The game at Prenton Park started off a good run of form for us and with out a great save at 1-1 from your keeper we probably would have nicked it.  A draw was about fair on the day. I'd shake hands on a draw now.

I can't see us getting anything. Unless a bit of magic or we score from set pieces your two center half's should run the show. Scholes has persisted in played 1 up front but we don't really have the strikers for it. Callum Lang on loan from Wigan is best forward but he's one of those that's not bad as a winger or a striker - he needs a target man to play off and we only have O'Grady for that, he's done OK this season but he's slow and maybe time has caught up with him. The less said about Vera the better.

The midfield can be tidy but it's lightweight and we aren't a big side physically. Our left winger is decent at making half a yard and getting a cross in but recently hasn't had much to aim form. The rest flatter to deceive but probably are not really good enough over the course of a season.

A draw for us would be a decent result but i'm expecting us to get a hammering at some point with the way we are playing. Last weekends equalizer was awful allround just a punt up field and striker in acres of space but that's happened more than once this season.

Scholes needs some wins and quickly - he has a few excuses at the minute but going into the summer of a poor run, what is it now? 1 win in 7 or 8 isn't good enough and could make players think twice about joining us in the summer. The fan base will be pushing for a promotion push next season - we may struggle to see it

  11. We need two up top. One of which has to be lang. Just to give us some mobility  at prenton park their two center backs bossed it from open play until we got some pace on and them turned them around.

when sturridge came on then they looked immobile and vulnerable to anything in the channel.

Will we ever see lacovitti? One of thr worst loan signings we have ever made surely? Not fit, not names in squads and we have players who can do a job in his position.

Sylla and missle dont really work as a pairing. Both want to cover same ar3a of the pitch.

We are so poor going forward that i could see us on the end of a chasing unless someone can produce some magic.

  12. We say this every season.

We need to get some wins on the board first.  Get some momentum behind us and get the fans behind scholes. At the minute we are short on quality and from

Finishing 13th or lower  is a poor season.

If we go into next season in poor form i could see us not improving and the pressure building on scholes and the chairman pulling the trigger

What a crap site this is. Negativity all the way.

Bunn was fired for obvious reasons that the players were not playing for him and since he has gone our play has been far  better with attacking football and will be even better when Scholes is able to bring in fresh faces to make up his own team.

Why criticise Abdallah ?     Obviously this must be the site that demoralises everyone, apart from the Trust and Corney lovers. Abdallah is doing a great job and yet we still get comments like "he is picking the team". What absolute rubbish.  Call yourself fans, more like the "Anti OAFC Club".

Onwards and Upwards with Abdallah and Scholes and positivity arising from this trash shown on here.

"Bunn was fired for obvious reasons that the players were not playing for him?" What makes you think that?

Our form at the minute is probably worse that at any time under Bunn - understandable after loosing your top goal scorer but I don't think the players not playing for Bunn was an issue.

Negativity and suspect player recruitment maybe?
