  1. I was surprised Gardner took that 1 earlier in the season and a bit with the free kick Saturday. I wonder if it's a confidence thing maybe Baxter feels he has to earn the right to take them again...maybe it's manager direction cause he's jb  isn't a certain starter.

I haven't seen a player in the lower leagues hit a ball likes Jose can so I'm hoping we see him with some space 20 yards from goal at somepoint  this season

  2. My first game in a few weeks. Tuff game against the most direct side I've seen in an age. No pretence of football just bang it long. There number 45 however is robbing a wage shocking footballer. We showed a lot of battle and fitness to get back into the gane and we didn't deserve to loose but against a huge team physically we gave away soft corners  and paid for it. from open play they created little a good draw tho and a decent result against a team above us.

Iverson 6 - had little to do but found  himself picking the ball out of the net.

Hunt 6 - battled against the physical stuff but not often able to provide anything going forward

Clarke 6 - partly at fault for the second maybe? Header straight to there player who finished well. Still the equaliser was a case or goal or the keeper was ending in the back of the stand. True captain who never gave up.

Edmunson  5- stood up to the long balls and looked comfortable until needlessly playing head tennis and letting them in for the 3rd

Taylor 5 - been a fan since he joined but his passing first half was awful. Improved after the break

Lang  5 - needless mistake led to the first goal and he didn't offer much  rightly subbed

Gardner 9 - often criticised for giving the ball away but isn't do that so much today and out his usual shift in. 2 decent crosses for goals 2 and 3

Missoulu  6 - did ok against a team who didn't really use midfield much but picked things up well enough.

Banger 5 - was ok best bits of play again with back to goal but never really threatend the Colchester defence.

O Grady 6 - worked hard a some decent lay offs but didn't take 1 good chance and had another blocked

Sturridge 9 - will be playing much higher than this division next season alert for the tap in. Superb flick for the 2nd. Real live wire.

Subs Baxter 6 knitted things together and didn't give the ball away really other than one silly needless Hollywood  ball that let then have possession in our half late on.

Nepo 5 didn't really get into the game few crosses blocked. I'd expect him to start next week tho.

    Miller - 5 didn't do a great deal.

  3. Just win...I dont care how. If we play free flowing football great but not many teams at this level will. If we work hard and are organised we won't be far off and that's what Bunn seems to be getting us do.

We were doing OK under Ronnie Moore 2nd season who knows we might have kicked on again wth a bit of strengthening but out came the "i won't buy a season ticket with him in charge brigade" and we have barely challenged the top of league 1 since.

I just want to see us win some games it's been depressing scrapping for points year after year. So far so good this season. The season for the first time in many a proper team is going out on Saturday working hard to try and get 3 points and send us up the table.

I don't care if we win 1-0 most weeks,  I don't care if we score most of our goals from set pieces.

Just win it's all that matters.

It might be nice to support Man City, Real or Barca but we don't we support a bottom tier club in the football league. Some of these player in ours and teams around us could very well not be pro footballers in a season or 2. They aren't superstars so we have to temper expectations.

  4. A strange game again. Crawley offered little going forward but could have had 2 goals before half time. They were a cynical team who went down at the merest hint of physical contact and the ref pandered to it..

But somehow without creating loads of chances we won, Can Baxter play as with drawn striker? and be effective I felt he was on the periphery of the game a lot.  we huffed and we puffed and we kept going how many times over the years would we have lost that or drawn.

Iverson - could he have done better with the goal? Good pen save and everything else was routine for him

Hunt - a solid game and linked well with Nepo first half

    Clarke - usual solid stuff

Edmunson - Did well against there number 9 and good composure for the cross late on - becoming a real player for me

Graham - Isn't an attacking full back will grow into a center half for sure - blowing out of his backside late on - did he give the pen away? Looked a soft decision

Branger - some promising moments but we don't get him far enough forward

Missilou - Could have given a pen away in the first minute and one or two other poor tackles but much improved from last week

Gardner - at his frustrating "best" gave the ball away loads after doing the hard work to get away from his man or win the ball back

Nepo - Excellent first half could have had a 2nd goal worked hard, 2nd half didnt get the ball as much

Baxter - on the edges of the game when he went in the midfield pulled the strings for a time but the killer pass didnt come off, his class will tell in him it's just where is his best position for the team

O'Grady - Won everything in the air but had no one to read his flicks

Sturridge - worked the line and proved a different threat a big asset for his this season i think

Laing - looked a bit light weight but gives us something we dont have much of and his mobility and movement could be good for us to use

Hamer- Did fine when he came

Ridiculous tweet. For me missed out on MOM to Iverson. Work rate excellent, tackles well, doesn’t mind heading the ball.  The fact that you had something to say about him but left out the woeful Gardner second bad game on the bounce.

Gardner was good against mac 1st half. Not so good today.

I hope for an improved showing from them both next time out

From what I've seen of Missilou he's a holding midfielder who is nearly a foot smaller but can read a game and pass the ball much better than Fane. Then again neither of those are hard.

He passed a 40 yard ball out of play when options were open and barely completed a pass in the 1st half today. he didn't win that many tackles either first time I've seen him so hopefully improves but I wasnt impressed. More work rate than coke but 0 quality. Can't say his positiong j pressed either as he dived in a lot after getting wrong side of players

  7. Hard working display. Taylor Clarke and George very good again, Iverson motm. Some superb saves. Hunt was poor at rb, not sure how much that was due to branger not helping him.

The midfield is the problem..missle is like a rubbish fane. Gardner had some good moments but then looks for Hollywood. Can't fault his work rate but his passing is awful at times.

Nepo  was probably our chief threat couple of decent crosses and took his goal well.

Cog ran his arse off and took the goal well but we needed to hold the ball better at times. Baxter showed some class especially before half time but fading out of it.

There's more to come from us but we need something else in midfield. There is defiantly a chance for someone to make a midfield spot their own. Same at rb dummigan has a good chance of coming straight back in when fit.

Not a great performance  but can't fault the effort and work rate. Wouldn't like to give up those kind of  chances every week tho.

  8. Odd game. Mac until they scored were dire. We looked ok first half. Gardner needs to stop trying to Hollywood everytbing but he had a good half and tried to get us going.

2nd half they woke up after the free kick and we were really negative. They had plenty of holes at the back  but instead we bring on a defender and move hunt to wing back position. As we had no one in the middle passing the ball Mac were able to pick it up and create chances.

It doesn't bode well that we had to hang on against a really poor side and we didn't create loads either but we got there.

    Iverson good game

    Clarke and George excellent

    Taylor solid

Hunt I thought gave his man too much room and didn't impress as a wing back.

Nepo  was busy couple of decent crosses first half faded second.

Gardner good first half, quiet 2nd

Coke passenger need to see more from him

Johan did ok bit of luck for the goal couple of decent runs 1st half

Sturridge looks a handful great goal

Cog  some good hold up play not bad

Miller. Dire defending helped him but good strength and found a finish..

Plenty of work to be done and I'd like to see more threat from set prices but a much needed win.

  9. I've said before Gardner is a league 2 player. Has some good attributes, he's fairly fast works hard. Is capable of pinging it to either side of the pitch but then misplacing a pass over 6 yards or going past someone but then overrunning it. He struggles with consistency but he should do OK for us at this level. I thought we would see more goals from him last season so the fact he's off the mark already is a good sign. Let hope he stays fit

Banks was awful, wouldn't tackle and 0 work rate. Gardner has some aggression, does win tackles and a good work rate no comparison who the better player is

  10. My first game of the season so I'll be optimistic but the match reports and form seen all to familiar . We need get on the score sheet first something we've had problems with for ages. We saw how effective set pieces are at the world cup and if we can't break teams down we really should be working on these to give us some threat. Hopefully with a few players back we can get the win.

  11. Both awful. The away one being lesser of the two evils. The home kit looks like something Ipswich would wear circa 1970. The away kit looks more like something Fulham would wear but doesn't look as bad. Don't think I like the massive white add on to sleeve on the home one

    I'll get used to em.

Who though? Like Crusoe says, there were opportunities for players like Solanke, Abraham, Calvert-Lewin, Gray to stake a claim, but they've not been good enough. I haven't seen anything of Sancho, Sessegnon or Lookman who I've seen people suggest, but struggle to see the benefit of taking a bunch of teenagers who will get walloped.

We're going to be dull to watch, especially in midfield, but that's what we've got. Keep it tight and organised and hope Sterling, Alli and Kane can do enough on the break. Ox's injury is a shame, would have worked well with Henderson.

    2

Against anyone decent, we are going to get walloped anyway. That midfield is awful and we don't look too solid at the back. Take Sessegnon he's been brilliant. He doesn't have to play every game but at least let him experience tournament football. Calvert-Lewin has been in and around the team and at least he's fit, unlike say Wellbeck. I suppose we need a blend but I'm glad Trent-Arnold and lotus-cheek are going instead we may as well gamble on youth for a change and see if it gives us anything in world cups to come.

Ox's injury is a big blow, Ali has been below par most of the season so i doubt he's going to find the magic touch - again he's young so the experience will do him good.

  13. I saw Gary Lineker saying we should take a load of kids and have just use this tournament as game time and as an experience for them.  I think I agree to be honest.

No problem with Wilshere not going he's a complete liability in terms of injuries. Shelvy is awful. What's he got 1 goal and a couple of assists all season? type of player always looking for the hollywood ball but rarely finds it.

If lalanna had been fit for more of the season think he would have gone.

Delph has just won the title and can do a job in a couple of roles. Young's been decent for the last year or so and again versatile

Tarki probably unlucky to miss out.

Has Rashford really done enough to go? Welbeck has done OK in the past but again another crock.
