  1. Excluding FA Cup/League Cup Games I would say the highest travelling support I can recall was at Barnsley, early in our promotion season (September 1990) where we took over, well over ! 5000.

Fewest I have been part of was the less than a hundred at Plymouth, November 1988 (3-0) loss.

I do also recall Latics playing the "Lambs To The Slaughter" at Chelsea in the mid 1980's which was featured on Match Of The Day (Sunday Afternoon as I recall). The camera panned on the huge open terrace behind the goal to reveal a "travelling army" of some 50 or so. Not exaggerating here, does anyone else remember this televised game ?

So what is the highest/smallest Latics travelling support that you have been part of ?

lowest :- monkey hangers boxing day 04/05 away and we lost

highest :- newcastle. way back when i was a kid. in with the geordies standing only rochdale road end, it was just a muddy grass bank latics scarf in pocket chitin myself, freinds of my family visiting thats how ended up in there! lost again

  2. In short no, i think he activity has shown we have no ambition to get out of this league! Now everyone can spout on about we aint gunna get the sigings on 4,500 at home games rubbish but the truth is our FA Cup run brought in a lot of money, the trotman sale brought in money and i dont believe once the development is sold and ground is built there wont be a spare couple of pennys left over! In short we have a bit of money, more money than expected, you can even thow the portergate scandal in their (no one believed trotters would come on like he did and sell him on for 500k) Now at the beggining of the season we were lead to believe more sigings/more signifficent would have come in if it wasnt for porter - now we have more money than expected and we still dont spend. You cant be succesfull when the majority of the team is on loan and still only 60% -70% fit. I dont believe we would have done much this season whoever we signed but this was the time to start looking at next season.

The success in this league comes when you have a big squad who have been round together for a while and dont need much gelling in - generally players who are in contract and not on loan. Yet come the end of this mid table season we will be left short again with contracts up, players leaving, players being bought from us, and loan signings ending. Then start again with a drastically new squad, we have a crap start to the season and shez comes out with his usuall comments "we need time to gel"

    Sorry rant over!

agree.and shudda signed striker 1st jan not left it while last minuet we cudda gone futher in cup more cash in the bank!!!

  3. I'm getting really annoyed with the constant slating of Craig Davies and before that Michael Ricketts, :he underperforms:, "he doesn't care", "he can't hit a barn door". I feel that when a player comes to Oldham from a higher level that some of the fans expect them to be world beaters and forget that it's a team sport, so when the team is underperforming some of them blame players like Davies, Ricketts and before that Jermaine Johnsson, Kevin Betsy, Chris Killen even Chris Porter who are by the way playing at a higher level of football than ourselves. People complain at players like Davies for running into the corner and not going for goal, maybe he realises that if he can protect the ball then people may eventually come up in support, what would you rather have a player that wants to keep the ball or someone who chases after everything loses the ball and the entire team are chasing and probably getting tired out like what happened under Ronnie Moore. How are we going to attract players from a higher level if this is the sort of things they are likely to expect from some of our supporters?

so its the teams fault tha davies cant score!!!!!

beats its the fans fault i supose

  4. Forgot the Brighton goal.

i was just checkin facts you nearly got it. 1 in 4 less an injury ater 12 mins....

the thing that gets me with davies is yes he was good till hughes came then he spat the dummy threw toys out of pram and is no longer doin the buisness imho he needs to get a grip, grow up and think about the team and not himself theres no I in team!!!

  5. Davies can score goals, he's proven that. What he's going through isn't something that can't be resolved with some good man management from Shez. It's not like we've got a striker up front who doesn't have the ability to score goals which would be far far worse. Alessandra, well after what most of us saw from him on Tuesday we have every reason to be optimistic about this lad, the way he holds the ball up and turns with it is brilliant, also for a young player he's quite strong, doesn't get muscled off the ball easily at all and he has quick feet. I'd like to see how he can finish and his positioning but we've a good one here.

davies :blahblah::blahblah: how many chances do you want to give him he's had 11 games still give him a chance ey!!!!

  6. We should have seen two players who agreed to sign for us, both so close to officially being a part of the squad, both who agreed terms and were ready to head off to Swansea with us, turning around at the very last minute?

    I think that's pretty unforeseeable.

Plan B = Using the players (and talented players at that) we have to give a little bit extra for the rest of the season and help us push on.

Our defence is good, we have strikers who can score goals. We have two bulldogs in midfield. I'm only concerned about our creativity in midfield and our ability to retain possession in midfield but the signings we missed out on today wouldn't have helped that situation at all.

strikers 1 injured 1 couldnt hit a barn door and kids hope they can come good.

  7. haerd a rumer last night that we had put someone up in ahotel whilstwe sorted adeal out this from the same source who told me trotters was goin preston for £500.000 so has some credance but could be that just a roumer !

and well done Latics for screwing the pond life Chief Exec from Plymouth that said to Hardy " I'd accept the £350k if I were you, don't want another Porter on your hands do you?!" Highest bidder won and we weren't railroaded. Good business that. Now where's our sodding striker................
