  1. i have been to the club shop this morning and placed a book of condolence for ernie.

i think it would be a really nice way to show louise and eventually ernie's child how warmly he was thought of at OAFC.

the book will be in place for a week from today, then i will take it down to ernie's family.

some really nice messages have already been left and i hope we can fill the book in due course.

i am awaiting details of the funeral from ernie's family and will let everyone know when i have them.

    best wishes

  2. Devastating news. Thinking of you Ernie and your family

    morning all

just a quick update on ernie's condition for everyone. apologies to people for not returning calls but its so hard getting back to everyone with news.

we visited him yesterday and he is in much the same condition. sleeping pretty much constantly now, just waking briefly every now and again.

the nurses assure us that he is no longer in pain, as the painkillers he is taking are alleviating as much as they can.

his girlfriend lou and his sister and dad are by his side constantly. he has many many friends visiting him, and we are all saying a prayer for him.

  3. Thanks for keeping us up to date with the situation I'm sure it is appreciated by everyone on here. Here's remembering and hoping.

morning everyone, spoke with lou last night (ernies girlfriend), and she said that he was watching the footy, unfortunately cheering for germany tho!!!

the little bugger is fighting all the way!!!

as i said previously, reports of the 48 hours diagnosis were wildly inaccurate, although his time is expected to be extremely limited, we are all hoping he gets to see his baby in 4 weeks and has some quality of life. will give an update later today, as 2 friends of his are going down to see him.

i told lou of all the comments on here and hopefully that will provide some element of support for our ern.

    best wishes

    martin

  4. Terrible news, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

    Puts things into perspective.

    Ernie 4 England!

ernie's baby is due in 4 weeks time. desperately sad situation, so tragic.

after visiting him last week, i can only pray that his suffering comes to an end sooner rather than later, both for him and louise and his family.

his indefeatable spirit is truly inspiring, even trying to raise a smile when we visited. wearing his latics shorts, he is a battler to the end.

many of his former teammates have been at his side this week, and they are, as we are absolutely devastated to see his deterioration in such a quick time.

i am in touch with his family frequently, so will inform of any updates, still praying for a miracle.

  5. I guess a lot of us have feared for some time that his illness had gone past the point of no return. I hope it's been some comfort to him to know that people cared enough to make all of the fantastic fundraising efforts that have gone on around the country (I heard just the other day that they raised £1,000 with buckets at Bromley) and that his wife will no doubt have that extra support as she prepares to raise their child. It's just very very sad.

just to give an update, ernie is terribly poorly, but it isnt true to say he has been given 48 hours, although having seen him a couple of days ago, i dont see it being much longer.

still praying for a miracle, his family are by his bedside and we just hope he doesnt suffer to much longer.

the illness has grabbed him so quickly, so much that he didnt make it to the states for the treatment we hoped for.

thanks for all the messages of support, i will pass them onto louise and his family.

  6. massive thank you to evry single person who turned up today, also the people who drove up and paid there fiver but couldnt make it. we were really chuffed to get 1500 people in and should hopefully reach approx 10k in donations from today (gonna take some time to count all them coins in the morning!!!).

all the lads who played really did themselves proud and tried to entertain on what was a scorching hot day.

ernie was really overwhelmed with the love and support he received and it made all those hours of hard work to stage the game well worthwhile.

    thanks again

  7. how about a fans game for the owtb team verses dale /grays fans team as a warm up ???

think thats a really good idea, anything at all that will raise the profile of the game as got to be a good thing.

will be asking for help over the coming couple of weeks for volunteers to do a bucket collection also , hopefully at the final league game.

every penny really will help now toward the costs of ernie's medical bills and he really does appreciate everybody's help and thought

please dont forget to visit and pass on the address of www.erniecooksey.com

    cheers
