  1. Stick around. Or use the search facility. This isn't anything new from Corps. The bit above from him is merely a small slice of the ramblings in his mind. TTA are as guilty as the rest for our failings if you believe what Corps says.

I've seen exactly what he's posted in the past, and can't say I agree with much of it.

    But......

    a. I'd rather not play the man rather than the ball. He said something sensible, responses should be to that, not his history.

    b. How is he supposed to show an improved or more enlightened viewpoint if we just go on and on about last year's posts?

Fair enough, he may have annoyed people, but reply to what he's saying now please.

  2. Not being funny, but you must've missed some of his endless incessent ramblings if you think that. Corps has laughed at TTA and their promise of plans. Often asking "what plans?" I am of the ilk that it is healthy to question. Sadly though, Corps doesn't do this but merely snipes and one minutes suggests throwing ridiculous money at a promotion chase and new stadium but then denies it'd be anything like Chris M****'s era of chasing the dream/showing "ambition".

Can't argue with that at all; my point is based just on the one post; I think I was just a bit stunned at being able to agree with him so just had to reply!! lol

  3. Ahem , another week of :blahblah::spam2:

Corp you are clueless ! :dead:

How exactly is he wrong. I don't see a criticism of the current owners, otherwise I'd be up in arms too.

I'd only add the complacent, lazy or whatever fanbase. Where are the 10k from the Premier days or even the 'fans' we took to Everton? 5k for a town of Oldham's size is an utter disgrace!

  4. I thought it was a good game today and was by far the best we have played all season. I presume you all agree that the ref was :censored:. Thought he made some poor decisions on both sides.

I have to say that your defence looks poor. Dickinson hasn't been great for us this season and hasn't looked a 750,000 player but he did cause your two centre backs all sorts of problems.

The lad Taylor looks a class act i remember him destroying us at our place a few seasons ago.

Any chance of you lot taking Beckett and getting him off our wage bill.

    In order.....

No way, thought the ref had a decent game, not too fussy, no massive mistakes, from bitter experience we don't tend to hope for much more than that!

The defence was poor, but mainly because of the absence of Sean Gregan, he would've sorted out Dickinson big style, like he did when we played Derby pre-season. Though I do rate Dickinson, good good player.

Absolutely Taylor is coming on leaps and bounds, improves every game, and a real Oldham lad, who puts heart and soul into everything. I just can't believe he gets stick from our own fans!!

Errrrr, no thanks. we've moved on, and are way better now than when he left. Even the Beckett then would struggle to make our squad now.

Oh, and finally, sorry, I think you probably deserved the points, but hey ho tough cr$£%p!!

  5. Stefan Stam gets it for me, he did an amazing job against Dickinson today. I really rated Dickinson in the playoff final last season but he's turned into a nast piece of work over the summer.

That has got to be a WHOOOOOSH!!!

  6. Well who was better than him?!

    Lomax? Nope.

    Eards? Unusually rubbish match.

Hazell? Too many bloopers for me.

Can't argue with that, I thought the whole back five looked less than awe inspiring!! As for replacing Stam, and i'm not saying we should, from the last two reserve games, I was a little surprised (before the game started) that Byrne hadn't got the nod in front of Stam.

  7. I would agree that this was an ideal opportunity (my thought before the game) to rest Allessandra and to play Davies, especially after his well taken hat-trick midweek. But I cannot understand the criticism of the decision to bring O'Grady on or of his performance. I would much rather criticize our unwillingness to keep the ball on the ground, or our general edginess on and off the ball, and inexplicably so! Given these tactics, O'Grady was the right choice and played well.

  8. Stam is useless?!

He was our best in defence today IMO, but Greegs was badly missed.

I'm definitely not one of the moaners or doom-sayers, but to sat that Stam was our best in defence today, in my opinion, can only mean that you yhink that the other three had truly awful games! True enough, I think Hazell didn't come out covered in glory, but I thought Stam did little to encourage Shez to extend his stay in the first team.

I thought today, Stam's positioning and distribution lacked, worryingly since it's one of his bigger attributes, any sort of composure. In fact I'd summarize his performance as being akin to the proverbial rabbit in the headlights!

However, I would heartily agree, Greegs was sorely missed; being the bully he is (a compliment BTW) he wouldn't have stood for the treatment Stam and Rubed were dished out today.

  9. Clear red my bottom.

It does look worse than it is but he wasnt the last man, its not like it was two footed, hes lucky he didnt connect fully with the lad otherwise then it would have been a straight red, for me, its a careless tackle than looks worse than it is.

Unfortunately, according to the laws, intent matters. Just because he missed the lad doesn't absolve him. Your position makes it a straight red.

  10. Maher thing is odd. Only gets a couple of minutes here and there yet the other week he was thrown in with a start at Burnley and then it was said players like him aren't getting enough match practice. Ideal opportunity today. Unless the scouts are out for Kalala. Hmmm maybe not...

    Alright.

Can't see why Kalala was out there if he wasn't being watched. He was limping for at least two-thirds of the game, and ended up playing at right back. Funnily enough, I wasn't sure he was any worse than when he is fully fit.

Stephens was definite the man to watch, until he tired about two thirds in and the two goals were well taken.

Thompson had a good game, though he wasn't really tested. Bur Thompson, Stam and Fleming have got to be kicking themselves at shipping a goal!

As for the triallists, two wingers, the short coloured lad on the right (Carlos something or other???) looked tidy and showed some good skill, but unfortunately never put in an accurate cross, Worth another look though I thought. The other lad, a left-winger never really got more than a few touches but didn't really do anything bad either.

Oh, and Djemba-Djemba looked, bright, had a couple of long-range shots.

Overall, I thought that if that team played in League One proper, thet wouldn't be relegated...happy days!!

  11. To refer to United fans as 'Munichs' is deplorable.

To then object to being called a name because it's 'personal' is pathetic.

For the moderators to object to swearing and name calling, yet allow United to be referred to in this manner is hypocrisy of the highest order.

Personally, I agree, but then ..... BinDippers, SheepShaggers etc, allowed or not? Where would the censorship end? Could be a slippery slope approaching.....

  12. No, there really isn't. Supposing 50 tickets get lost throughout the season, the stewards will have to compare each one of 3000 ticket books against a list of 50 numbers every other week. If it can't be done electronically it won't be done at all.

Surely, that can't be right. Each Season ticket is specific to a stand. Now, even given that we're a stand down, each gateperson is only only looking at checking say 1000 per stand divided by the number of turnstiles.

In fact, if I remember correctly the main stand is even more divided by that, with the different blocks so the number of items on the list would actually be 50 divided by the number of areas in the ground approximately, a much easier task.

I'm not saying that that is necessarily feasible, but it's certainly not as impossible as stated above.

  13. The volume of the PA system in the Chaddy was turned down low yesterday. Can anyone tell me whether Mouldy Old Dough was played when the team came out and whether Guns of Navarone was played after each of our four goals?

Yes, they were in the Main Stand, but again not at a particularly high volume.

  14. ...

This reserve thing really worries me...how are we going to keep players fit and interested if there are no games sorted? If we are going to organise friendlies surely we should have some sort of fixture list organised already.

I fear a disaster with the reserves this year!

Having a fixture list organised already is exactly why we pulled out of the reserve leagues. Last year, so many pre-arranged games came up when we couldn't play because of weather or whatever, or didn't have any fit players (didn't we lose loads of games cos we had to play the kids of our kids team!! [the kids of course were playing in the first team])

What Shez is saying is that all teams have need to play reserve games just like us but surely we can arrange them to suit the clubs at the time and not to simply follow a pre-arranged fixture list for a meaningless competition. And as far as competition goes, there is at least as much incentive to win against Man City or United or Rochdale or Stockport Reserves, as with any Pontins or whatever Hokey Cokey League game.

I just cannot see how people are doubting the sense behind this decision. Granted, there is a [small] risk element. But look at what happened last season. At least this way the worst that can happen is that you get few games, rather than having a meaningless backlog of games no-one cares about, even potentially negatively impacting on the first team if players are sucked into those games. At the end of the day though, unlike last season, we are a lot more free to ring round and get an ad-hoc game whenever we need it, whether it be behind closed doors or whatever. And the trend does seem to be for teams to be going this way.

  15. ...

Is the support of people like my Dad more valuable than those people who go to a similar number of games but in a different combination of home/away games I don't think so.

    ...

Sorry but I think that is the point here, Basically 20 x £20 in the coffers of Latics IS more valuable than 10 x £20 in Latic's coffers plus £27 to Leeds plus £20 to Northampton plus etc etc etc.

I would be the last person to discourage trips to away games, and also oafcprozac made a good point about the non-financial benefits of away support. But at the end of the day Latics are always going to benefit more from the turnstiles clicking at Boundary Park, which is exactly why we are still stuck in League One - our pretty poor attendance level!

  16. Not knocking you getting a ST and had one myself the last few years had a ST. This year not did'nt get one as it will cost me over 100quid for each home game, yet will still manage 35+ games this year.... so why is there not a scheme that allows reg followers to gain points and have the same rights as a ST holder ???? Is it not my right traveling on avergae 300 miles for every Latics game to get a ticket???

Why as someone who will go to more games that the average ST holder does have to take pot luck for Leeds as its a big game? Will you be there on a Tuesday at Bristol???

... I could buy a ST easy if I wanted so no big deal.

Yes its been done to death so what? Being a ST holder doesn't mean your special mate

I'm totally sympathetic to your situation, having done the living down south thing and still trying to follow the team. But at the end of the day, the benefits should, and do, go to the ones who are pumping their money into Latics's coffers, not the Away Teams'. Basically, at the end of the day that's the ST holders who are paying up front, at a time when the club vitally needs funds.

  17. TTA have been nothing but great for us and i dont have a problem with anything the have done.

Really dont like selling people but i do understand money situations.

If we keep the squad, sign Phillips and a left back we have a great chance of play offs and maybe promo.

Given that Phillips played the second half against Huill at LB (and that Lomax didn't put a foot wrong first half), maybe that's Shez's solution to LB and playing Phillips (in either role) in one fell swoop!

  18. in particular i like the look of o grady looks strong and links up well. Fleming what an awesome save for me a must start he looks more agile than crossley. Phillips we should sign him but play him left wing he was out of sorts at left back although not his fault. But all in all we have reason to be optimistic

I thought Phillips looked solid at left back, especially as I was very skeptical when I first saw he would start the second half there.

Since Taylor has played at LB too, the options for changing over and overlapping between the two looked good, something that maybe would grow with time and understanding together.

  19. .......

    04-05 Mini Shez, Muzza

05-06 Dean Holden, Chris Killen, Kevin Betsy, Pogs,

    06-07 Butcher, Branston, Day, Scott,

    07-08 Porter, Wellens, Rocastle, Edwards.....

    08-09 ??????????????

Probably missed out loads but yer get the idea. No one player is bigger than the club and if the money is right so be it. But NOT at the expense of a promotion push.

To be fair, by selling, really we mean selling our brightest and most talented or players with most talent potential. Just turning over the squad and freshening things up doesn't really count.

I wouldn't really say all the lines above qualify for us being a real selling club.

Really, TTA have been a godsend to us.

  20. Isn't that what happened to Gary Mac 9/10 games?

Personally I'll always been a bit mystified by the criticism of Gary Mac (but maybe that's for another thread). At the very least, whenever the ball was going forward, you could bank on hom arriving in the box. Maybe that was why we he got caught out if the ball didn't come to him. Whittaker, for me though, seemed to be anchored in the centre circle for large portions of the game, not a criticism I would expect to see of Gary Mac. As I said, the perfect contract was Stephens who was box to box I thought.
