-
or we'll knock another stand down
-
there was a classic photo of his stare on google images but it's gone
Does anyone remember Archie Whyte came from Barnsley in the 50/60s he didnt take any prisoners, they used to play with the old casie ball including the lace.when I was a lad men were men and the women were glad of it so they say.Off the subject Bert Trautmen played in a cup final with a broken neck.
-
Your right it was Alan Hunter Irish player, as you get older your memory gets worse.
-
Didn't go to Ipswich - went to watford and then Newport..
I think you are thinking of Allan Hunter. Went to Ipswich and was a stalwart of N ireland team. V good centre half.
-
Does anyone remember Alan Williams centre half in the 60s I think he later signed for Ipswitch,he was cool as a cucumber a very talenanted player indeed.

Phil Starbuck
Ndiwa Lord Kangana
Ben Turner
Steven Kabba

The best player i have seen at b.p. by a mile he did not have to run about he could keep the ball till Bert Lister or any forward found space to work in no wonder he could put another few thousand on the gate a truley magical player to watch.

To assess Bobby for all you young uns, think Shez and imagine somebody 100% fatter and 50% better.
-
He's goalkeeping cover for the Resssies now Ollerenshaw has gone on loan....
Its his own fault not many get booked in the kick about before the match starts.
-
yes I was we beat Exeter 4 2 what a player, even now at the age he was then he would be the first player on my teamsheet without doubt.

Friday Oct 15th will be 50th anniversary of my first visit to Boundary Park.

Wilf Hobson Billy Naylor John Thomson and Don Travis are a few of the players missing from the 50s latics teams some of our fans may remember them
-
The last I heard, his disco pants were still the best.
In seriousness, I imagine the old cliche "no news is good news" is appropriate about GK.
-
My worry would be can Greegan play on again next season or do we need a good backup
-

We have always been a fickle bunch haven't we
I was at that match what a player some one with his talent would soon get the crowds back at B.P in no time no wonder he used to increase the gate by at least 2000 fans
-
And Craig Dudley
If he cannot perform for 90 min he should fit in perfectley with the rest of the team
-
Apparentley he can play any position apart from goalie. I knew we should have kept Windyass (TIC)
-
Been a tic since 58. Don't recall quarter shirts. You may be thinking of the thirds that were the standard kit until Bates changed it to "electric" tangerine shirts & blue shorts. We had a good away kit of white with blue candy stripe shirts & blue shorts. We beat Mansfield 4-2 at Field Milll in about October 66 in that kit. Dave Best in goal. Anyone remember that kit?
No it was definately blue and white quarters (like Blackburn) I started going in 1953 the year we where relegated from the old div 2
-
Of course
Do any of our older fans from the 50s and 60s remember the blue and white quarter shirts like Blackburn Rovers and Bristol Rovers we used to wear or is my memory playing tricks on me
-
there was a point in the second half where he was havong a real chat with someone for over a minute.
Excellent save for CT after Lardarses brilliant flick on.
Do any of our fans remember Charlie Williams (Comediens)played in goal for Doncaster he had our crowd in stiches when was in goal sat on the wall at the side of the goal telling jokes.
-
I like that shirt but the one I mean had blue and white quarters like Bristol Rovers used to have from 1931 till1962I think this is the shirt you mean, I felt it gave Latics a unique identity, unlike the current home strip design which is similar to many other clubs. -
I am sure we used to play in blue and white quarter shirts in the 50s & early 60s
like Blackburn rovers/Bristol city strip. or maybe my memory is playing tricks or I could have been supporting the wrong team for 55 years though
