  1. I think all the NIMBY dwellings in this picture have been built since the football ground was established.

It's true to say that no complaints were heard when the RRE was built and also Boundary Park was established long before most of the houses, but my understanding of it is that the local residents are not opposed to the redevelopment of Boundary Park, it's the building of the houses/apartments that are to fund the stadium that is the problem. It's very frustrating as these are probably the same people who are complaining that their son/daughter can't afford to buy a house in the area, but when a plan is there to try to meet demand with extra supply they are all up in arms. Maybe a solution to this is to look at the number of dewellings in the plans and see if we cannot reduce it a bit to try and get at least some of the residents on side and push the plans through more quickly.

I listened to the interview with Simon Corney on the radio a while back and he says that TTA latest business ventures surround property development and I'm sure this was one of the factors involved in them buying us. If we don't get permission for the houses/stadium I worry a bit about their long term involvement with us.

Any decent town in this country has a professional football club; and we saw with the success in the 'pinch me' era that the town recieves a massive boost from success on the pitch and extra investment from business soon follows. It's about time these NIMBY's stopped thinking just about themselves but what would benefit the town of Oldham as a whole going forward.

  2. May I just suggest then that if our little drummer boy likes shouting racist abuse, then the next time he does it a report to the nearest steward and him and his drum maybe permenantly removed from BP. Normally I wouldn't like grasses, but if what has been said further up this thread is true then it would seem appropriate on this occasion.

  3. An extended trial would be the best way forward, I think it would be tough to make a decision on him based on a few days training and the Rochdale game. I think we would need to have a thorough look at his fitness too as, as we have seen with Simon Charlton players of this vintage always seem to have a few problems under the surface. He has the quality we are look for though without doubt and would be a good example to our tounger players in this position.

  4. I was talking to a long time suffering Forest fan, who said Crossley was always a cracking shot stopper, but was reluctant to leave his line very much. Though at his age i guess it'll take him a while to get back to the line now  Though i think we at bp are used to keepers being a bit shy coming for crosses now....(thinks back to the days of Peter Mcdonnell!!)

Peter McDonnell, now there's a name to conjure with. I scored against him at the Chaddy End when I was Mascot.

  5. Crossley will start IMO. But having Pogs' as back up is not a bad thing. We've finally got real back up and not just a youth player / loanee and I think that can only be a good thing for the team!

Not sure he'll just want to sit it out on the bench, he'll probably just pack his bags and go back to Oz. If he does that we'll be back to having youths / loanee's on the bench, maybe we should be on the look out for a keeper 20 - 23 years old to act as a proper deputy like Miskelly (cough) did.

  6. Who would you pick if you were Shez?

I feel a bit sorry for Pogs, he's very much a confidence player who when flying can be as good as anyone in the division. Sadly a few times last season we saw him press the self destruct button and finish the season in poor form.

Crossley has said all the right things since he came to us. He looks like he could be a leader both on and off the pitch. He has bags of experience but has not really had regular football in the last few seasons.

My guess is Crossley will get the nod in front of Pogs; I can't see us bringing a player in on good money to have him sat on the bench. So Crossley for me.

  7. I've voted mid-table; the league looks tougher than last year and teams sometimes seem to struggle after missing out on the play offs the previous year. Tranmere and Hartlepool are examples of this recently. The lack of a creative midfield player and a left back also worry me a bit but a couple more good signings in these area's between now and August could see me wanting to re-vote.

  8. Well before the time of most of us who post on here but to put him into perspective, In 60 years of watching Latics my Dad only gets doey eyed at 3 players; Bobby Johnstone, Bert Lister and Andy Ritchie. I think that says it all really.

    Get well soon Bert.

  9. It needs to be a left back not McGreal. We are desperately short of left footed players in the squad and look how England struggled without that balance in the team, in fact I think that was why we lokked better at Bloomfield Road in the playoff game 'cos Eddy came into the team. Nothing against McGreal as a player it's just that I think we have enough centre half's and not enough experienced left full backs.
