  1. I have to agree about our badge, and I have been quite vocal about this in the past. I have a real dilemma coming up, because I said I would not buy anything with the current badge on it, I feel that strongly about it. I didnt buy the black away kit, now third kit, and I really liked the shirt. This would be the first home kit I've not bought since the early 90's when I was old enough to save my pocket money and buy the "waste of money" football shirts myself.

I think decisions like this should be made by the fans. Easy to put a poll on the website asking people to vote on the badge. If it had been the choice of the majority of fans, I would have made peace with it.

I understand it was done for free by a fan, but it really did not need to be changed. We have so many more things that require to be done before changing a badge.

Once everything else has been done and the club is profitable (lol), then we can pay a company with experience in this area to design a new corporate identity.

  2. i always get paranoid about swallowing my tongue when i play footy...but that's just me....must be awful

I don't see why, it is not physically possible........ even for Gene Simmons.

You can temporarily block the airflow with your tongue going back and towards the roof of your mouth, but failure to breathe activates "fail safe" muscle contractions to start to clear any blockage. These contractions are more than enough to clear any tongue based obstruction.

The only reason this may not work is if suffer paralysis from the neck up, or 100% paralysis - and then you are done for anyway.

  3. Did the BBC have a different angle to the Latics player highlights?

From the grainy video I saw it looked like a yellow at most. Of course I may be wrong as the LP video is never good, but I think it was harsh on that viewing.

The lad was just trying to win the ball. Interesting the player fouled on this occasion was the perpetrator in the following vid

    Now that is a red.

  4. Pretty happy with this one tbh. Regardless of how he plays for us in the future, which you can never guarantee, I think it is a magnificant capture for the club. As said previously, I think we were all expecting some untried 18yr old striker from a bottom prem / championship club. Kuqi is a proven goalscorer who we all hope will rip up trees at this level, despite his age.

    Well done PD and PlayerShare.

  5. Oldham 'keeper signing turns out not to be the next Iker Casillas! Shocker.

In all seriousness, at this level and with what we pay, we should be happy if we have a keeper who doesn't gift the opposition with howlers of mistakes. Anything on top of that is a bonus, and from the limited amount I have seen of Cisak, he looks like an improvement on Brill. What more can we realistically ask.

  6. The guy clearly has no self respect. The club were willing to pay him to go somewhere else, and he still turned it down.

I know if I was crap at my job, I would expect to be sacked. I think a striker who couldn't locate the goal with a gps on both feet constitutes being crap at your job. We should sack him, then when the tribunal happens, we just turn up with a DVD of his games for Oldham. :D

  7. Another one of these? Seriously?

There is no kudos for knowning something first if you don't share it.

You either name the player and a potential rumour, or you keep the whole thing to yourself. So far we know someone is looking at a house tomorrow, hardly earth-shattering info!

I never thought I would say it, but I prefered mendi's "rumours", at least they named the player and you could laugh at them.

Edit: I'm allowed to be a prick today, it's my birthday! :P

  8. Thanks. The files wma not mp3 and i was going to put some movies on there aswell. Do you know if i can use it through the xbox? Looks like my plan as gone to pot!!!

Just convert them to mp3, there are a heap of free programs that will do this. The movies should play fine, your TV supports a wide range of formats.

  9. Model number LC-32DH500E

The TV does not guarantee that all external hard drives will be usable, and certainly none over 1TB.

Are the music files in MP3 format and not wma or something else?

If they are MP3, I would suggest formatting the hard drive and putting the files back on there. I would suggest using Disk Management (win) or Disk Utility (mac) and remove all partitions from the drive before formatting it as NTFS.

  10. Thanks my tv is a Sharp Aquos 32". A friend also said to try it through my xbox. I tried this but again it finds the hard drive but doesnt give me the option to play the music file.

I need the model number, will be written on the back of it.

  11. Just wondering is it possible to use a external hard drive on my tv? Ive just bought a WD Elements 1TB hard drive. It can connect to my tv via a USB port, but after loading a couple of music cd's on there it wont play. My tv has a built in media player, it shows the files but thats it. Ive played movies from a memory stick on the tv in past and thought this work the same way? Any help would be great.

I would say it would be a codec issue, but could also be a file system problem on the hdd. Let me know the make and model of your tv and i will have a look and see if it has any special requirements for you.

  12. then why on earth did we let him go out on loan for nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely Latics are not that naive to let him go on a loan without a fee (like we had to pay for Beckett) or a firm agreement for them to sign him ?

    Don't you play Football Manager?!?

I would say we got a fee for the loan, with S'ton having an option to buy him for an agreed fee at the end of the loan. I am not basing this on anything except Football Manager, so prolly talking out of my backside :)

  13. At least Evina let his plans be known early and not waited until the last minute, making out like he was close to signing. I am sure PD can find someone of equivalent talent, so it is not that big of a loss.

    <Only nerds read on>

Just on a technical point, evina, a hippo and Luke Beckett would all have the same amount of pace whilst sky diving.

Do you mean that they all have the same mass and shape? If so then you are correct they would reach the same terminal velocity by sky diving.

If you are implying that all bodies falls at the same terminal velocity, then that is incorrect. The terminal velocity is directly proportional to the mass of the object (plus select other variables).

  14. The other side of this is coaching. Pretty sure I have read that the red taggart has offered him a player coaching role at the scum. If Paul wants to get into coaching, that would be a very hard thing for him to turn down.

I still hold out hope for Paul wanting to play for Oldham though, I think it would make next season a totally different prospect. I am sure all the players here would get a lift training alongside and learning from a former England international and world class player. As for wage, I can't see it being an issue. If Paul wanted to come to Oldham it would be because of his love for the club, not to make money.

Come on Paul, you know you want to help the latics be the best they can be.

  15. Unless there is a legal requirement which states that a CEO has to be a board member, isn't this a pointless argument.

100% agree. In general, small business CEOs are on the board and large organisation CEOs are usually either non-voting members of the board or not on the board at all.

Neither is the way it has to be, or has any sort of rules applied to it. If Oldham want Alan to be a CEO that is not on the board, they can.

  16. Thanks, it was good to see how different clubs have changed their badges.

I think I have made it clear in the past how bad I think our new crest is, so I don't need to go over that again.

I just wish the club could have consulted the fans on it, given us a choice of designs.

    <Rant>

On a side note, one of my clients is a large design print business with many multi-national contracts. When I was there last week, I showed a few of them the new latics crest to get their opinion on, but I didn't let on whether I liked it or not. It was not well received, one of the ten people that looked at it said it was an improvement on the old badge but needed refinement. The other nine said it would not have left the sketchbook in their organisation and had no potential. (to be fair, five people all made their opinions together - not individually)

The worst part was, the guy there that I talk to about english football (he coached with Doug Hodgson in the local youth league) sat down with it and started picking design flaws with it - now the flaws are all I can see on it.

    </Rant>

  17. Well done OWTB. It would have been a tough decision to become unofficial again, but it clearly is going to benefit the members here by doing so.

I am pretty disappointed that the club wanted to stop free speech on here. Moderation should only be used for offensive, antagonistic, or illegal posts. Not because the club don't like what some members think of the club. Thankfully the mods at OWTB have shown their dedication to the well being of the forum, and not taken the easy toe-the-line path. Thanks guys.

  18. Notts County

'A decision has been made on the club's new logo, following detailed feedback from supporters and several design stages.

Eight crests were shown to fans in issue 22 of The Mag and on the club's Official Website.

This led to hundreds of forms being returned with comments on how they felt the badge should look.'

'The final design is intended to incorporate Notts County's history, as well as present a modern feel that can represent the club into the future.

On confirming the new design, Notts County chairman Ray Trew said: "After consultation with the fans and having contemplated numerous submissions, it was decided that this design represented a good blend of elements from previous badges to symbolise the club's illustrious past, whilst also signifying a more contemporary style.'

Would have been nice to have had something like this, and if fans had chosen that badge, I would have been silent.

Changing something that didn't need changing is crazy. I agree the old badge was hardly design beauty, but why change it for something that quite frankly, looks like free work.

On a side note, I love the black kit. Everything except one thing that looks like it was stapled on....... can you guess what it is?
