  1. Thanks again for the advice. In the end we took the train to Werneth, since we'd already paid for tickets through to Oldham. The walk took about 20 mins, which was fine for catching the 17.35 back to Victoria - even after all the added time. I see another Dons fan has already posted a view on the match, with sentiments I pretty much agree with. We too had a good day (spent some time in the Museum of Science and Industry earlier in the day - great place, if any of you've not been there) despite the result (if only, that penalty... it could all have been so different). Hope lots of you come down in March - it's a pretty easy trip by train and we got really cheap train tickets by booking advance fares. Good luck for the rest of the season. Dave
  2. It will take a little bit of mental processing... but I do appreciate all the advice!
  3. Well, for a while I took my sons on the occasional trip to Anfield. But, my sons were born in MK and actually, from their perspective, Liverpool is a long way away. They even have southern accents (that's hard to live with!). Milton Keynes is their home and the Dons their team.
  4. Hi, MK Dons fans here... popped in for advice on travel (see Travel -Trains Stations topic) but I probably ought to say something, though I don't have energy for an extend 'debate', so just a couple of comments. - The saga of how we got to where we are now - MK Dons - is not straighforward. For example, Wimbledon were already in a bad way before Winkelman got involved. It really is not as simple to say that Winkelman stole the club. I'm sure it is very satisfying to have simplistic view that makes us the baddies and therefore allows you to hate us, but the reality if much more complicated. - Milton Keynes is different from other towns. Like it or not (and of course you don't!) it is a New Town. It IS an 'artificial' town, but a real town none the less, with 200 000 people who have the same needs and desires as anyone anywhere else. Being a New Town lots of things have been done differently. It hasn't been possible to 'evolve' all structures, facilities, networks, of a traditional town - there hasn't been time. Things have had to be accelerated and 'imposed'. And, as someone has already said, yes, we've heard it all before, so if you abuse us, please try to make it original! Here's hoping for a good match on Saturday. Dave
  5. Thanks for all the info. Seems like we have several options, I'm still not sure which is the best - spoilt for choice! I guess I better say something on the 'MK Dons' topic while I'm here...
  6. Hi, MK Dons fan here. Congratulations on your start to the season! Early days, but I'm sure you're enjoying being top. I'm travelling by train on Saturday and wanted to check something. We've booked to Werneth because your official site says that's the nearest station. It says it's a 15 min walk to Werneth compared to 45 mins to Mumps, but it doesn't look like that on the map. Mumps doesn't look much further than Werneth, and there's more frequent trains to Manchester from Mumps. (Time could be a bit tight for catching our connection after the match.) Is really better to use Werneth? Thanks, Dave
