  1. Simon Stainrod away at Blackburn in 1979, scored from a seemingly impossible angle in a 2-0 win

Correct - he was sensational that night - the goal you refer to followed a run that began on the halfway line too - down the touchline, cut in and hammered past the keeper from about a foot shy of the goal line.

  2. Would that be Stuart Wolfenden?

He still drinks in Royton a lot him, was in that brilliant film Dead Mans Shoes.

Think his tidy sister is an actress too

His sister used to be in a band didn't she - used to play the Weavers on Huddy rd on a Tuesday night years ago - agree that tidiness is evident though.

  3. I used to work in Sale when Ro(d)ger was a tic and he used to be hanging around the train station fairly regularly in the mornings waiting for a lift to training. I also spent a large portion of one Saturday night many moons ago talking to the great man in The Greaves. As many have said, a quiet but likeable bloke.

  4. he is a very down to earth lad,who doesnt go in for all the razzamatazz of the other players.he knows where he came from and how lucky a position he is in.

he will have already set himself up for life,by investing his huge wages wisely, the thing is he isnt in the public eye,but it doesnt mean he hasnt got any deals going.

he does a lot for charity as well.

so by the time he may come here if we get into the championship,it wont be a money issue for him,it will be about playing for his boyhood club, and pleasing everybody that tell him he should sign for us.

He used to get his hair cut in the village barbers in Lees too. The owner there told me the (probably apocryphal) story of scholes going into one of the estate agents in Lees in his early 20's and in a track suit asking if he could arrange a viewing of probably the most expensive house they were flogging. Said estate agent was apparently not interested in football and thought he was taking the p**s - the almost definitely not true part of this story being that when he'd been to look he whipped his cheque book out to pay for it.

  5. As the fallout from the derby loss continues most United fans are calling for Scholes to be replaced by Hargreaves or Carrick, looks like Scholes's days at Mordor may soon be over. If he is surplus to requirements it can only be a matter of time before he turns up at BP?

On one forum I have seen fans questioning his engine and his passing vision, whilst they may not be up to premiership standard the sure as hell will be upto League one standard.

Come in Paul, your time is nigh.

His passing vision? Take it none of them saw his pass for Carrick's goal then - actually they probably didn't - most of them would be on the way back to London by then

  6. I am sorry to say this and I am not one of the so called Boo Boy's. Davies in the first half was awful as was the rest of the team until Taylor scored! I am glad he changed his boots at half time, he played much better once he ditched the Orange boots.

We should have started with Lomax in as left back. But I suppose that because he has signed Livermore he now has to play him.

The second half was better but we were still poor today. On a plus point I though Jarrett's shot that hit the crossbar was very unlucky not to go in, Goal of the season I think that would have been

I must need the optician, I thought it was Gary Mac hit the bar.

  7. That cant be the same one then. The Karen i know married someone called Paul. They had a boy and a girl. Paul and his son are United fans, but Karen and her dad are Latics fans, that's why her dad takes him to Latics. He sits just near the away dugout and wears glasses, he is called Alan.

They live where the old St Augustines school was (or was it called St Alsoms or summat) just near Holts estate.

Ah, different one then. Both blond and gorgeous though - quite a coincidence.

  8. Does anybody remember that place (Cant thinks of it's name) on Rock street facing the doctors that used to sell beers in Steins?

It was down some stairs and it was only a small place, but it had some great music and you used to have to sit down to drink as the steins were so heavy.

Used to go in there when i was 16 with Karen Butterworth  (my missus at the time). Oh happy dayz !!! Always got some meathead giving me the eye with that look of "What the hell is an ugly sod like you doing with a blonde haired blue eyed godess like her" :tongue1: ......Still dont know myself to this day?

Oy Chad, KB is married to my mate!

Also had happy times in Dreamers Friday and Monty's Saturday - great music on Fridays - dodgy women on saturdays - happy times!

  9. By Hardy on BBC website. No agreement yet.

    Argyle bid for Oldham's Trotman

Oldham Athletic have confirmed they have received an undisclosed offer from Championship side Plymouth Argyle for defender Neal Trotman.

Latics chief executive Alan Hardy revealed to BBC Radio Manchester the Devon club had made an approach but no fee had been agreed.

Newspaper reports claimed Argyle had offered £350,000 for the 20-year-old.

The Pilgrims broke their club transfer record by signing Cardiff striker Steve MacLean earlier this month.

  10. He also goes on to say "They weren't right and wanted too much money but I’ve got lots of other names lined up."

Better IMO to avoid signing people who wouldn't add to the Team but instead wait for those who will. Bringing someone in specifically for the FA Cup is not good sense and he needs someone who is going to complement Hughes and Davies for the longer term as opposed to replacing one or either of them for a single game.

In balance therefore, I think he has done himself far more good than bad in what after all is third party paraphrasing of his comments.

But, if (and i know it's a big if) we'd signed somebody and won on Saturday, even someone on 10 grand a week for 3 months (£130k) given the draw 'udders have got he'd effectively have been making us money!
