What are people's thoughts on the kind of striker we need?

 

An older experienced striker or a younger pacier direct striker?

 

Personally, somebody like Jonathan Forte from Scunthorpe would be an Interesting possibility - scored a few at Doncaster - maybe when Penney was manager there - and scored a fair few on loan at Notts County last season.

 

If you think that Notts County had John Thompson playing centre mid, the service can't have been that great to him yet he still scored regularly??

 

Still got a year left on his contract though so would probably be too expensive come to think of it.

This might sound really stupid but what about one that scores goals? Just a thought like.

On what grounds would Taylor be worth "a hell of a lot more"? Take a look at the guy with an impartial eye, and you'll see a young winger with a bit of pace but who isn't a speed-merchant, who can put in dangerous deliveries but does it too infrequently, who scored a few goals last year but up until then had been starved for goals and finally you should recognise that for the last half of last year he was poor. Whatever the reason, his performances were not great.

 

Taylor has a great advantage that his dribbling and pace with the ball is excellent, but he is a long way from the finished article and the only reason he'd be worth more would be that attackers attract high values.

 

Eardley is unbelievably under-rated by some of the posters on this thread. Where the hell are we going to find a comparable player for 250k? The guy is "only a Welsh international"? He can't exactly play for Brazil when he's from Llandudno...

 

Seriously people - get a grip. Eardley is the most complete young player I have seen us produce, and he will go on to bigger and better things. His appearances, caps and ability would be sold by no club for less than half a million, and if we even consider that - reflecting that Wrexham get 20% apparently - we should be looking at a sell-on clause on top and appearance related add-ons. The lad made the team of the year, and yet some people think Lomax is an adequate replacement? Staggering...

How is Eardley possibly a complete young player when he can't even clear the ball without kicking it out of play? I thought he was poor last season apart from a handful of games and if anyone seriously believes that he is worth more than Taylor then you must be mad! If someone offered 500K for him i would snap their hand off there and then.

Because Taylor is English. If Eardley was English, would he be a full international? Simple answer, no he wouldn't. Whereas if Taylor was Welsh, would he be a full international? I think he would!

If anything, we could argue he is worth more than taylor

So let me get this right, we could be facing Davies and Ricketts in the same attack hahahahahahahahah - but you know one of the will scoreagainst us.

One of them will score because latics fans are insistant on booing every ex-player and never seem to learn even though they score against us every time. its obvious it's going to happen so why keep doing it!!

i think he showed a lot of promise at times. he's got skill with the ball at his feet, pace and can hold the ball up well. with a good run in the team i think he could be a decent player for us.

i've seen wolfy play quite a lot in the reserves and i agree that he could be a good player for us. he should be given a proper chance as his ability to score a goal can't be faulted. i imagine that a lot of the people who have written him off have never seen him play in the reserves and are therefore only able to judge him off what they have seen of him for the first team (arguably not that much). i hope he has a good pre season and penney does what a lot of latics fans won't do, and give him a chance.

Good to see the club putting some offers on for pre-season. Think it's a great idea they are offering discounts for the home games. £15 to watch 2 games against higher opposition isn't bad at all. The kit offer isn't bad either for those who didn't get the away kit last year.

 

Good to see more commercial activity around the club and I hope it continues, it was really lacking last season. It's good to see the club doing something.

i know latics and some here had a pop at the beeb about the stam incident..well i watched how the beeb had seemed to become either very slow or not even at all reporting happenings etc at latics since then..

 

well,after yesterdays latics worlds "telling off" of other sites reporting before fleming's loan being "confirmed"(which incidentally was only on the pars bbc page) latics now don't even have a link on the league 2 page-only if you click "oldham" on the league table...

I noticed the same thing, that it was taking about a week to update any news and thought it might just be the same for every lower league team but it would seem its not. its just us.
