  2. Dave Penney leaves Oldham by mutual consent on Thursday 6th May. Gordon Brown steps down as Labour leader Monday 10th May. Coincidence?!?!?! I Think not!!! Have we done a transfer deal with the left wingers where we swap Mr. Penney for Mr. Brown? Discuss...
  3. A black manager and assistant?!?!?!?! You obviously have not read the signs of the apocolypse You can have either a black manager or black assistant, not both, otherwise Hells gates will open an billions of Ronnie Moores will rise and destroy the beautiful game, taking over FIFA and making football into a quidditch style game where the ball cannot touch the floor!!!
  4. May's issue of FourFourTwo, with a rather interesting look at Capello's preperation for SA, said in it's League One round up that: Oldham fans will have double reason to cheer on England at this summer's World Cup following the announcement that the club will fully reimburse all season-tickets if they win in South Africa. 'This is a great way for our fans to back England to win the World Cup for the first time in 44 years', says spokesman Guy Walker. Now bearing in mind that this issue of FourFourTwo will have been written and finished towards the end of March before being released at the start of April, has anyone else heard this? And if so has anybody else heard of Guy Walker? There is also an interview with Dean Furman for those interested. You were born in Cape Town wern't you? My family is of Jewish descent and one of my grandparents fled to South Africa during the war from Poland. I didn't live there long though - my family moved to England when I was five. But you soon made a name for yourself as a good sportsman... I joined Chelsea at nine after being spotted playing for my local Sunday side. I also played tennis to a decent level and was ranked in the top 30 in the country for my age group. Did you face any future stars? I didn't come up against Andy Murray, although one lad i played a lot with, James Ward, is now ranked in the top 200 in the world and starting to make a name for himself. You must have had a hard job choosing between the sports... Yeah, but at 13 I thought I had a better chance of making it in football, because tennis is so hard to establish yourself in. I went on to sign YTS forms for Chelsea shortly after, so I made the right decision. I do still like to have a game of tennis whenever I can! Did you take on former tennis star-turned-footballer Michael Boulding durnig your spell at Bradford last season? No - Mickey ran scared! Perhaps he thought because I'm younger, I'd give him the run-around! Seriously though, it was probably lucky for me, because he was ATP ranked and would have given me a thrashing. Do you play against any of your current team-mates? Not yet, although we have recently signed Jason Price from Millwall who fancies himself as a bit of a player. I've asked for a game, but he hasn't put his money where his mouth is yet! Back to football. You're now establishing yourself after a spell with Rangers... After leaving Chelsea I was lucky to join Rangers, and having done well on my debut I thought I was in for a big season. But they went and signed Pedro Mendes and Steven Davis, so I went on loan last season instead. You joined Oldham in the summer, and seem to have really settled in... I'm loving it here. We've got some real characters at the club, and a great blend of youth and experience. Our skipper Sean Gregan has been around the game for ages and has been excellent with his advice and help to the younger lads like myself.
  5. Well no. In the Championship theres 3 promotion spots and 3 relegation. In League 1 theres 3 promotion spots and 4 relegation spots. So there is a greater chance of promotion in league 2 with 4 spots up for grabs and less chance of relegation with only 2 spots.

  7. Like it said Oh Heck C-Beck and Blue Hobbit said it is a positive spin on a crap situation and a great chance for a fresh start. The situation has been going stale for a long time in this League, and a change, with a possible season or two to get settled, could be good for the club.
  8. Is anybody else, like me, quite looking forward to the possibility of playing league two football? For a start at least it's a different league. We've been in this league for nearly 13 years, much to the frustration of many Latics fans. But we have only ever looked at the possiblity of going up to get out of it, and not down. There is a also a greater chance for promotion and a smaller chance of relegation. With only 2 spots up for the drop to the Blue Square Premier and 3 automatic spots and 1 play-off place for promotion the chance of a successful season is greater. Plus the travelling for away games will be cut right down. Macclesfield, Crewe, Port Vale, Accrington, Burton, Shrewsbury and only one of Rotheram, Bury or Chesterfield could go up through the playoffs (assuming that they all stay in playoff positions). And permitting they get out of the trouble they are in there would also be Stockport, and possibly even Tranmere to play. All these teams, within 2 hours of us, would be a luxury we have not had for a long time at BP. They are no Norwich, Leeds or Southampon, I will give you that, but they also won't have the cost of going to these games (petrol, admission, pies/beer etc). I know the downside would be Rochdale are going up and that we would be likely to loose players and possibly the managers budget would be cut. But look at it on the positive. Were getting League 2 attendances already and we have a ground worthy of Non-League! Would it really be that bad for us??
  9. For those of you who might not have seen this its Latics game at home to Oxford United way back when in 1966 on Match Of The Day Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 -
  10. I was a little dissapointed that he didn't manage to make the "Best of the Rest", especially considering the likes of Kalala and even the Trannies Ian Goodison had made that list . Stand out player of the season for Latics with Pawel close behind
  11. Danny W? If you mean Kasper Schmeichel he's in at no. 47 I did forget to mention that the top 50 were voted for by fans, however it does not say the same for best of the rest. But unless Luton fans or all the players who Brill has gifted goals to have voted for him then it surely must be the Journo's sticking him in.
  12. I am a regular reader of FourFourTwo and was excited this month to see not only an article on Alan Groves (a player I never had the pleasure of watching play) but also an article listing the Top 50 Football League Players (in the naive hope of finding 1 Latics player in there). Well as you would expect not a single Latics player made the final top 50. However at the bottom of each page of the said article was a list fo a few players, not quite good enough to make the top 50, but still worth a mention. Imagine my surprise to find in amongst the "Best of the Rest" a Latics player. "Dean Brill Oldham, 24, Goalkeeper Brill has been just that saving The Latics from an even poorer season." (direct quote from the magazine) I have been to a few of the home games this season with Brill playing in net in all of them. Have I missed something really big that FourFourTwo has seen, or is this yet again lazy journalism that has read into the hype of a player (he did come to Oldham with the reputation of being a good young keeper) rather than actually watching the player themselves? Now I am to understand he did have a run of a few games at some point in the season where he was ok, but he has arguably been at fault for a lot of our goals, bearing in mind he would not get as much stick if goals were being scored at the other end. For those interested former Latics players that made the article were: Best of the Rest = Calvin Zola, Jean Paul Kalala 44. Lee Hughes 35. Richie Wellens 27. Keiren Westwood (Alan Groves article is very good and I would reccomend going getting the magazine for it)
  13. New member on here and looking around I read about the podcast. Excited I opened iTunes immediately searched for the podcast and clicked subscribe straight away, only to find that the last podcast was pre-season. What has gone on guys? Has this season been that depressing that the recording equipment melted? Would love to hear more MDI
  14. I have been to every home game so far this season.... I really don't think they would notice if nobody was there haha
