My take on the failure to try out youth platers in the first team.  I have no views on an individual players as I've never seen a youth team game.

Mellon should absolutely be aware of what we have and see it  with his own eyes

He has no track record (I don't think) of pitching in youth rather than relying on experience.  I suspect this is one leopard who won't change his spots

Presumably he was advised that Kofi Moore was ready for an outing at senior level as he's the only one that's appeared.  As he looked totally lost then maybe he's assumed that the others aren't even at his level.  However, it now turns out that his 'trial' came in the wake of Barnetgate in a terrible team performance so who knows what effect hat had.

I'm guessing that even at our level there it is still a big step up from youth football on a park pitch

I may be wrong here (often am) but I don't think a single player from our youth system has made any great impact at a higher level since Tom Hamer. (Vaughan can be argued for but the best he seems to be managing is sub appearances in L1).  It really does suggest that we've struggled to either attract or develop talent in recent years

it may be the case that we have some decent prospects and regardless of what he thinks I do have respect for BP's experience but it does seem unlikely that a conveyor belt will be shifting youth team players to the first team squad any time soon

Many got snapped up before they had played a game for us. Emmerson, Simms to name two. I know we sold a young (12-14yo) kid to Liverpool in last couple of years and one to Newcastle but names escape me. Dare say there have been others. If and a big if they come good can be worth a lot to the club. Not sure how its structured whether it was a clean break and those monies go with the lemmies or corney (whoever owned the club at the time) or if it still comes back to oafc.

  2. Hudson/Norman

    Raglan Hobson McGahey/Hogan

    freeman/green.          Kitching

    Gardner/lundstrum sheron Shelton/Willoughby/ward/dickenson

    Nuttall/fondop Norwood/reid

5-3-2 effectively without the ball and 3-5-2 with the ball. Gardner or lundstrum sat in front of back line to receive the ball and progress the play. Sheron there to win it back, then with the ball you give license to shelts, Willoughby or ward to support the strikers, without they drop in the middle.

my guess is that’s the master plan but injuries etc have put the mockers on it.

The Willoughby situation is just fucking weird to me, same with Reid to an extent, you can tell Unsworth doesn't fancy Fondop or Reid long term with his reluctance to give them a run despite linking up well pre season and then going out for a sixth striker.

He needs to hope that all these players he's dropped on their heads are ready to dig him out of the shit come Saturday because he needs to call on them now. His blind faith in Nuttall will probably lead to him getting the sack eventually if he insists on flogging a dead horse.

For me he sees them as impact players rather than consistent starters. Ole Solksjaer at scum a good example, can't say fergie disliked him even though he was often left with 15 minutes to do something.

How much were they last year at the early bird prices, I bought one and can't remember.

iirc £160 rising to £180, then it went to normal early bird pricing and then full pricing. That was the Lemmies panic mode thinking everyone would boycott and probably wanting to rinse whatever money they could out of the club before they sold it to Frank.

Anyone else having problems getting the website to work for renewals?

You have to select your seat whether renewing or buying afresh. The renewal option just unlocks your seat for selection that would otherwise be greyed out in the seat selector thing. Also if you exit the app or move away before going to checkout I found it can log you out for 10-15 minutes, which was a bit of a pain, I did it on my phone and people were ringing me about the season tickets going on sale so meant I had to start the process again twice.

And as you know, the deal was under way before then and as Unsworth said, Clarke had already committed to Walsall. Just strange that he was contacting players about potentially playing for him before he had a job.

I see it as Unsworth was the man the Royle's picked and it was a case of getting the purchase sorted from the Brothers LemsaGrim, that might have held things up and why shez was effectively going for players he knew and that lived locally in case all went up in smoke.

  7. He (Peck) put the pass through for Tollitts goal at Borehamwood. In first half only Chapman turned up in the midfield, Gardner and Peck weren't at it, second half as others have said Gardner came off for Rooney, played Rooney in behind Striker and looked good. We did have more of the ball as the game went on, which meant Peck looked better, not convinced with him defensively, as Unsworth digged out Vaughn for same failings at Accrington.

Whether we were days, weeks or months from that end, that was the direction we were heading under the stewardship of the Lemsagams and their Senior Club Advisor.

AFAIK They don't need a winding up order for the Lemmies to have turned round and dissolved the club? As owners I suspect they could have done this to cut their losses, and finish corney+co's job of asset stripping what little was left. If no buyer been forthcoming. We'd have been fortunate to have gates of 1k (rather than 8k) had they still been here, so they'd have been bleeding cash to keep it going.

So did Raheem Sterling, but bounced back with an hat trick in the first game.

Surely Nepo can last 90 minutes. It's others who don't look fit, even after a full pre season season.

To be fair Raheem Sterling has de bruyne, david silva and friends pulling the strings for him. Nepo has? Not saying its the right or wrong decision to ease him back in, just that I don't think there is anything dodgy behind it.

I don't believe its a case of fitness, we just keep switching off at the back, I can see why Banide looks like he has seen a ghost in his post match interviews. First goal last night for rovers was a mistake from smith-brown. You then have Maouche turning his back on Downings shot for the second after Sefil has laid waste to one of the rovers players and everyone bar downing had stopped, a big lesson to play to the whistle. Finally you have Iocovitti losing an aerial challenge in lead up to their third, when he should have left that to smith brown and been covering the second ball that dropped to the unmarked man bursting through the middle as Sefil was caught in no mans land.

The sooner we get wheater and egerts in together the better.

On a lighter note as a team performance it was light years ahead of the crewe performance.

Hopefully we are playing Bradford at the right time as they are still working out how they'll play like ourselves.

  10. Wild set us up to be two banks of 4 and let Swindon have possession to a certain extent. Same as he has in every other game. For me I never felt we were in danger of conceding, others may well feel different. It's took a pen on the stroke of half time to get Swindon a chance to get in the game. The second from them was a well hit shot from outside the box. I don't remember them getting in behind us once (other than the pen). Lang had two one on ones albeit from tight angles. Just a shame it has taken us to 5/6 games from end of season to find a formula that works.

  11. AL needs to get his guy in, even if he is a yes man.

He appears to be bringing his players in to play a specific style he wants.

This has been butting heads with the styles of the previous 4 managers ( shez, wellens, bunn, scholes ) - left PW out as he was ticking over rather than trying to implement a style of play.

Swapping managers every 5 minutes is a recipe for disaster.

As for Steve Evans we shouldn't be even looking in his direction after the stunt he pulled prior to Robinsons tenure.

  12. What does a protest get us, other than letting some people vent some anger and cost the club money, particularly if the anger boils over and you get games delayed or abandoned due to action.

Costing the club money that could be spent on the infrastructure of the club or the playing staff.

The best way to protest is don't bother turning up or stand outside as a protest during the game.

At the end of the day Scholes knew the playing squad he was taking on, and knew he was doing so at the end of the January transfer window when he cannot make any recruitment changes.

I suspect Scholes found it genuinely hard work, on training pitches that aren't up to scratch, has bottled it and shown a lack of patience in my eyes.

At least take the club through to the Summer, then leave.

As he has resigned rather than being sacked we might get some actual information on the goings on behind the scenes.
