  1. I wouldn't say that's to the benefit of the club personally. In fact how does it increase revenue streams into the club? we had that ability regarding more punters to games with the old lookers.

I may have mis-interpretted your post here. Corney thinks that the improved facilities (which werent available in the old lookers) in the new stand will attract more punters. Furthermore, i bet the upkeep costs and essential maintenance of the lookers were getting close to whatever that stand could have pulled in money-wise.

  2. The landlord there is always 8 sheets to wind when I go in for my sunday lunch, always tells me that his steaks are the best around and that I could cut into them with a butter knife.

So i had to look up what "8 sheets to the wind" meant. It's a saying used when someone is always drunk and should be "3 sheets to the wind". When they used windmills they used an even number of sheets on the 4 sails depending on wind strength. Using an odd number would make the windmill unstable, wobble and risk falling over. Today I learned.

  3. It looks like there is an extra block which makes it awkward to fit in OAFC. Are we going to do what we did with the chaddy and go OAAFC just so it fits?

EDIT: Ignore that, the perspective at 1:24 looks like that is the case, but it actually works as there is another block at the end, clearer later on in the video.

  4. I was hoping the club could maybe decrease the price on saturday, new stand planned, nearly safe, good manager, gives the chance to get some more fans in.

10 per adult would tempt so many.

Sadly that makes too much sense for us to actually do it. It would be a really nice gesture to the fans after a difficult season football wise, but probably one of the best financially we've had for a while.

  5. Financially I have no doubt that it plays a big part in the country's tax takings, but I can't agree that the country needs it more than anything. No matter how big it gets the Premier League will always be a luxury item and one that the country is foolish to rely on too heavily.

You make the assumption that the country doesn't foolishly rely on anything too heavily. It does and has since the early 1700s.

  6. 13/8 to go down now, watch that plummet

Tuesday v Hartlepool is the biggest this club has had this season and we have a bloke managing who has probably never managed a Sunday League game in his life

Mind you if he wins tomorrow he will be heading the right way to win the fans around

I'd say he HAS to win tomorrow to have a chance of winning the fans over and keeping consolidation in league one a possibility.

  7. Six points from the next six games is what I hope for. Nine points will be very good. March is going to be a problem - April is where salvation lies. Can't see us getting anything out of the next two. Hartlepool is a must win and then we need to find a win from either Bournemouth or Shrewsbury as Swindon away looks beyond us.

Wonder what Corney will do if I'm right? Should have had a new manager in post before now.

6 points from 18 is relegation form. If we only pick up 6 points then we're doomed.

The re-arranged fixture against Preston is a must win.

  8. On the basis that we've got Byrne, Murray and possibly Iwelumo doing the jobs of two departed people, are we really that short?

I'd agree with you though. I'd like to know what's happening at least until the end of the season and I think it would help everybody - coaches, players and fans - to get that far.

    My preference is Dowie.

I think Corney's trying get TP to sleepwalk into it.

My instinct says the manager next season will be .... Cliff Byrne.

But we are a professional football club and should have staff for specific roles, especially coaching. Its great that we have players (albeit Murray isnt expecting to play any time soon) that can coach and look after the affairs of training but to me, it feels like we are taking advantage of that in order to cut short term costs. If we get complacent with those savings then those short term cuts will become long term and we will depend on the players coaching themselves. Just wish i could trust Corney and not worry about it, but i dont.

  9. The only thing keeping him in the team must be that TP thinks smith cant do 90 minutes and sees him as an impact player.

I have to agree. I think Matt Smith is an excellent impact player and would rather bring him on than start him. Maybe he should be brought on at half time though instead of the 60 minute mark.

  10. Great win tonight. Cant help but think TP has a better dress room aura than PD. However, we cant forget that TP distanced himself from the first team job not long ago and i think he has a real passion for coaching the youth team which i would really not like to lose. I hope he stays at the helm until the end of the season, then we get someone else in who is similar and willing to work closely with TP and the youth team and allow TP to go back to looking after the young uns. I get the feeling that the transition from the youth squad to the first/reserve team is a bit rocky so it would be nice if that could be sorted at the same time.

  11. I think the student tickety thing is something the club should look at closely to make sure they don't put barriers in the way of people attending after the age of 16.

Forms, photos and fees .... there must be a better way.

Proof of being a student = having a student card. Most (if not all) student cards have a photo and expiry date. Why not just show that on the gate/office and prove on the day? - Its what most clubs do.

  12. Hey all,

Just wondering how i go about contacting the club to see if they are willing to donate maybe a signed football or shirt (or similar) towards a charity event my friend (a vet nurse) is hosting at her work.

The charity event is to help raise money to train guide dogs for the visually impaired, the local vet is having a garden party with all the usual trimmings (cakes, tombola, challenges) and something from the club would make a fantastic prize. I have all the official letters and proof of the event to send whomever i might need to get in touch with.

Any help/feedback from someone who has contacted the club properly before would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Matthew :)
