  1. Speaking of surreal moments..... I was in Lower Main Stand yesterday, and a Latics fan two rows in front of me was getting, let's say, extremely excited by some of Mr Dowd's refereeing decisions. At one point the fan ran down to the barrier and hurled abuse at Dowd, who told himto sit down and shut up!! In nearly 50 years of watching football I've never seen anything like it!!

    That was me.

Love abusing the ref but that's the first time I've had a response like that. Was a bit surprised he could hear me in that atmosphere

  2. For :censored: Sake drop the big lump, it's like last season all over again.

I'm rapidly losing patience with a :censored:ing clown that perseveres with strikers that do not score goals. (Tonk 0 in 21 last season)

:censored: budget, club going nowhere we know, but we have other options, thanks for the purple patch Shefki, but time for a rest….

I only clicked on this post as I was curious to know who Paul was. I really must congratulate you Prozac, how do you come up with these hilarious nicknames for our players season after season. Last year we had to read post after post about ''Bubba''

Yes I can see the resemblance but you do realise that you are the only person who ever used that nickname (side splitting as it was ).

Same goes for Paul, the only Paul I can think of is the alien in the movie of the same name. Is that what you're alluding to?

Perhaps you could start a new thread titled ''Prozac's really funny nicknames for latics playersand how they earned them'' for those of us who are too thick to get it?

  3. If I was Dickov I think that as soon as we are safe, another 10 points or so, I would be planning for next season. Try all our options to see who to keep and who to let go. Get rid of the loan players and try some of the youngsters, give Smith a run to see if he's got what it takes (personally I doubt it) and at least then he can identify what players he needs to try to sign in the close season, and who he can try to sell.

  4. He may be a nice guy but he's another one in the Peter Reid, Ian Dowie, Steve Bruce mould - fails wherever he goes but still gets employed. 83 points from 124 premier league games at various clubs, but what the heck, he gets his contract paid up and there'll still be some mug of a chairman wanting to employ him, because the media love him, dour, straight talking Yorkshireman that he is.(insert :censored: smiley here)

Failing that there's always the ex-player/failed manager love-in on Sky.

  5. Wow a homophobic slur and a huge grammer mistake, one question who are the 'overpayed puffs?' The Premier League players who have every inch of their life delved into like it's a soap, the lower league players who earn round about the same as many middle class jobs. Yes there are some obscene wages out their but you know what, I understand why. Back in the 'good old days' where rose tinted glasses were clearly the rage a player would retire with nothing, no qualifications or job skills, these 'overpaid puffs' spend their early lives learning a sport but fail to much else. Is it too much to ask that they earn enough to last after they retire at the age of 35?

Many are overpaid but I think most earn their money by giving their life to a sport that does nothing but mess them mentally, same as any sport.

Heard some bollocks spouted on internet forums but this really, really takes the biscuit.

Oh, it's grammar by the way

  6. for the ultras to be in the rre we would have to move all fans down to the rocky, which where we could have the ultras in the small section away from everyone else, this would work, but we need to wait till the end of the season to get our point across, and we will be in contact with the club about the idea, we decided as the group for this season we will finish it in the chaddy, however then make plans to move down to the rre, its just going to be a slow process in developing this, but first its to get the atmosphere back at bp, and to get the ultras as a big group instead of how small it is atm, we all agree that the sound is louder in the rocky, and it will be considered at the end of the season, however like i said we need to grow it first, to make any point of moving down to the rocky to then fill the small section with the ultras.

Congrats to you mate for getting this up & running. I've posted before that, as a youngster, it was the atmosphere that I went to matches for and that's what keeps you coming back. Unfortunately I'm now a short sighted old fart so I have to sit somewhere near the halfway line in order to see both goals. I thought on Monday night that the stereo effect caused by the singing from both ends actually got the Main Stand joining in on a few occasions and despite what many on here would have you believe I could quite clearly hear the singing from the rre and the chaddy.

Keep it up, I applaud your enthusiasm and if you can get them to bring back standing I'll come and join you.

  7. I would say, without getting into the 'well maybe if people attended more' debate, the following will have contributed greatly.

    1) Substantial drop in the average gate since 2008/2009, and continual decline of home support (which this season has been compensated by vastly increased away support due to the increased amount of local teams or teams with large followings in this division), compared with a less substantial (but still substantial) drop in the wage bill since then.

    2) Boundary Park maintenance costs. As Ackey said in a previous thread, we will be extremely fortunate to get another decade out of the current main stand, and chaddy has another 15. My estimates would be lower than that, but the maintenance costs are only going to go up. I personally think the current maintenance costs for Boundary Park will account for at least 50% of this 1 million, but that is just based on wild guesswork and I don't have much to go on apart from previous maintenance costs quoted by Simon Corney.

Is there any evidence of maintenance of any kind at bp? I haven't noticed any let alone half a million's worth.

  8. At the next home game when the lineup of the team is read out over the pa system, instead of the usual apathetic half cheers, when it comes to Tom can we all give a standing ovation to show him that regardless of what may or may not have happened at Anfield, he is one of us and we are happy to have him here.

Can't do any harm can it?

  9. The club should contact the 3000 who bought tickets for this game but don't attend regularly to understand exactly why.

This was a great opportunity to lay the foundations to increase attendances long-term. Was anything done to capture names etc to conduct marketing etc?

What planet are you on? I spent 3 hours in the queue freezing my knackers off to get my tickets, how long would it have taken if everyone had to fill in a questionnaire when they got to the front?

  10. i was there. Not very nice. We were followed by a large mob all the way from the ground through Stanley Park, kicked and punched and spat at - really frightening as i was only 13!!!

I was there too, seemed like the coaches parked miles from the ground and we really had to run the gauntlet after the game. Never forget David Shaw's goal though and we were still in it until they got the third.

  11. I was thrilled to find this video on YouTube, record crowd I think at York (and fans today think the current BP is dilapidated).

I was at the game, were you ?

What a free kick from Maurice Whittle, and a rare glimpse of Alan Groves.

Hiuglights start about 06:40 into the video - enjoy.

The following season was my first watching Latics so wasn't at this game but I remember in the 75/76 season the Saddleworth Latics fans hired their own 55 seat coach to York, organised by Mick Bradbury. Most of us on that trip were still at school and I doubt if any were out of their teens.Copious amounts of beer drunk on the way there, bit of an altercation with some Leeds fans in York, brilliant atmosphere at the game.Think we lost 1-0 but one of my best ever away days.

Was anyone on here on the same coach?
