  1. About 1975 pre season against Huddersfield at the old Leeds Rd a mate and me couldn't afford coach (still at school) so got the 65 bus, 4p I think. Big mistake, had to walk from town centre avoiding very agressive Town fans all the way there. After game got chased around the ground, just as we were running past the main entrance Jimmy Frizz was coming out so I explained our predicament and he said 'No problem lads, jump on the team coach'. Result! Got a lift back to bp with Groves, Blair, Whittle, etc. Happy days.

  2. I hope this time that the stewards get people seated and not stood on the staircase, I imagine that had we have scored a goal there would have been some injuries, possibly quite serious, with people getting crushed against the advertising hoardings...

And none of that nasty singing either. Jeez.

  3. I for one had a good time last night. Radcliffe Arms at 6 o'clock, a few beers with a couple of friends, brief look at Spotland and home in time to keep the wife happy. Disappointed as I was at the match being abandoned I will certainly not be boycotting anything and when we play the re-arranged fixture I will be there whether or not I have to pay, and I will probably buy a pie and a pint as well.

:censored: happens - live with it.

  4. I have been watching football since 1967 and attending BP since 1974 and I think that most fans of around my age would agree that the thing that gave you the buzz to go back week after week in those days was the atmosphere on the terraces, regardless of what went on on the pitch.

Even when half full the Chaddy End was always electric because you could sing, swear, smoke and jump up and down to your heart's content, not to mention the regular surges from the back to the front of the stand. The regular invasions by away fans only added to the excitement as did the 'interaction' with them before and after games.

Away games were the same, getting to the ground, watching the match and getting back to the coach without getting your head kicked in was an achievement, you'd been on enemy territory and survived.

In today's sanitised football world with all seater segregated stadiums you will never be able to recreate the atmosphere of the terraces and as a result the 'youth' who used to make up a large percentage of the crowd are not going to be attracted to watch Latics in the forseeable future. A lot of people on here mock the young lads in the RRE for goading the away fans but that is partly why they come to matches, at their age its fun, just a shame they don't bring more of their mates.

And wtf is the matchday experience you're all talking about. Its the same as its always been. Meet mates at pub, have a few pints, go to game, go back to pub, talk about game, forget game, go home. What are you expecting at a football match? Pre game mud wrestling followed by a gourmet meal and champagne, and a blow job at half time? Its Latics ffs, pie and bovril if you're lucky and if they've sold out or the pie is cold THAT is your matchday experience. You might moan about it but you wouldn't stop attending because you got a cold pie.

Football at our level is dying, we all know the reasons so I won't repeat them but as long as we have a club to support I will continue to attend and hopefully the authorities will one day see sense and reintroduce standing, unsegregated, stadiums with a bit of hooliganism thrown in. Just watch attendances rise then!

  5. OK smart-arse, if you'd bothered to read the previous 6 pages you'd have noticed a lot of people are suggesting the club didn't do enough to get the game on, or dropped a bollock with their preparations.

I'm hoping to find out that this really was out of the club's control.

    From Brentford's Beesotted fan's forum

'Today's game with Oldham has been postponed following a pitch inspection this lunchtime.

The match referee deemed some areas of the pitch unplayable after Oldham forgot to turn on their radiators last night.'

  6. Lomax was sat with Worthington and there were 4 crutches between them.

:censored: has been back at Blackburn all week getting treatment for fluid between 2 discs. Club kept his injury quiet to disrupt Huddersfield's preparations (fail).

Our injuries this season have been appalling. Granted, with a full squad we may be in with a shout of keeping in touch with the play-offs but you only had to look at the 2 benches today to recognise the gulf in budgets and ambition.

Heard Lomax has broken his kneecap

  7. Just thought I'd share my experience today re tickets for the Leeds cup game. A mate who lives in Lincoln and regularly attends matches asked if I could get him a ticket as I have a ST. I phoned the no. on the fishul for the ticket office which got me through to the shop. I asked how many tickets I could buy and was told 1 per ST (as I posted on another thread). I later read on here that someone got 4 tickets with 2 STs. I have learned this evening that the mate from Lincoln has now bought himself a ticket online despite having no ST and the fishul site clearly stating that online ticket purchases were not available for this game.

While none of this is particularly serious I do think it highlights the shortcomings in the running of the club which many people have mentioned on here recently.

  8. Very rarely post but felt I had to after today's game. Brill is rubbish, end of.

5 (well 4 really) clean sheets are not down to him but the rest of the team's play. Can anyone name 1 game when he made an outstanding save? I can't remember 1. His kicking, positioning, coming off his line, shot stopping and decision making are woeful and how this man has blagged his way into a professional footballer's job is beyond me. For God's sake he struggles with a back pass. Disgusted!!
