  1. Leezy, I think it's fair enought to say 'the teams that we SHOULD be beating' when you add the condition 'if we have any serious aspirations of getting promoted out of this crappy league'.

Bottom 6 or so teams (definitely at this stage of the season) are there for a reason, same as we are top 6 (just) - it's because our/their performances over the last 25 ish games dictates it. Had we had more consistency we'd have been pushing the top 2.

But the bottom teams arent necessarily the bopttom teams at the end of the season - yes they may be there for a while but they turn up at BP knowing we play good footy on the deck with nothing but spoiling tactics - sometimes we manage to break em down, sometimes we dont it's all labout that 90 mins - even some of the Prem top 4 or 5 struggle to break down teams that come to shut up shop - so although on paper they are lowly teams, maybe their team spirit and sometimes even luck get grind em the points to stay up and climb the table

  2. I like all this 'teams we SHOULD be beating' - have I been in a coma and awoken to find I now supporrt Man U - they are the ones with the divine right beat all teams beneath them surely - come on chaps - ANY team with a strong back 4 and 5 along the miggle in a relegation dog-fight have a right to get a point at BP surely!!!

AND with a keeper that seems to have been having lessons from Gordon Banks recently!

  3. i 100% agree with this post. There are 3 promotion places available so let's weigh it up:

lets put things in2 prospective moneywise for arguments sake. leicester+leeds spent a fortune and get huge crowds for our league

    huddersfield spent over 1.5mil

    brighton spent £300k ish

mk dons + posh both got loaded owners

even colchester were putting £500k bids in for players

now let's look at the attendance figures for our league

bit confusing so here's the link http://itv.stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/attend.html

Alot of latics fans have ideas above our station. Yes we used to be a premier league club but it was more a case of we were punching above our weight back then than underacheiving now.

Granted, us as fans deserve 2 see abit of success at bp due 2 the last 15 yrs or so we've suffered but we need to do it sensibly and follow our business plan and budget, something that sheridan sees.

brill post - realistically we should know who we are and just enjoy the footy without these ridiculous expectations

  4. Leezy - am I right in thinkin you're the guy with the big spikes like something charlie harper would approve of? Clocked you and a few others trying to clap the team off to drown out the boo boys - a valiant attempt.

aye that be me wi the spikes n boots - my mates and I always clap the lads off as long as we feel they have tried - and they certainly give a reet go on satdi - just one of them games!!

  5. Thought it was the quietest it's been all season, felt like being at the library at BP on Saturday - having said that when you get 75 minutes of tripe served you expect it.

nonsense to both - we didnt hardly stop singing and it was loud - and 1st half aside, was a good match we dominated but just get past that 'dodgy keeper' - we are gonna have to stop singing that - they end up having stormers!!!

  6. he needed a kick up the arse first half....second half when the dialogue started he was back to almost his usual self..im not one of those who blow smoke up hughes arse,i think he misses a lot more easier chance than he scores, but second half he sorted himself out.

as for limited budget...take leeds and leicster out of it,and we probably have the next best budget,as he has had for 3 seasons running

at the start of the season i gave him until christmas, then after the start and 10 games in i changed to end of season.

im still not convinced he is our best hope of promotion, just like im still not convinced he isnt.

only time will tell...but where do you sensibly draw the line..3 years....4 years....5 years....

i think if we was sat here in 2 years time, and still in this league, still getting the same inept performances, you couldnt argue it will have been 5 wasted years with the best financial backing any manager has had.....could you???

ineptitude is relative - i personally have been entertained since shezza has been in charge - can count the dull games on one hand - dont go away remember so dont start!!

  7. Was nicely surprised - Rocky was rockin on Satdi - was expecting a library type atmos but was a great singalongathon - well done peeps - may be asking for a bit much for the same on Toosday - but let's have a go eh? Am loving the Great Escape - COME ON LET'S MEKK SOME MORE NOIZ!! :headbang:

  8. ooh shock horror - manager loses it with a player (a player I think needed a kick up his ass on Satdi - didnt chase at times) - ooh sack him! Results wise we dont win every game but on a limited budget he has got a bloomin brill squad together and got us playing footy on the deck - I personally would be gutted if he left us - he was the reason I decided to get a season ticket after such a long time in the wilderness - so Shez in!!

  9. I'm getting a little sick of everybody going on about Chris Taylor being the best player at the club and sayin we can get in excess of £1 million for him.

He's quite clearly a distinctly average player at best. His final ball is, the majority of the time, absolutely awful, he doesn't gamble at the back post enough (he's always first too late), he has no left foot and no skill or dribbling ability. He also doesn't seem to recognise these weaknesses as he continuoulsy believes there is no need to play the ball to loanee left backs from a higher level (most obvious being Bertrand) as he seems to believe he is the better player.

If he was the better player surely he still wouldn't be at Latics? Surely someone would have come in wih this £1 million and taken him onto a higher level? I think his true ability is actually summed up by the fact that Mick McCarthy (can clearly spot a good player) watched Taylor in a recent game and then, the next day, signed a left winger on loan. I am of the belief that a new manager, who can see a talented player, would not consider Taylor the untouchable that Sheridan does and this would ultimately make the squad stronger.

With regards to the Sheridan talk in other posts and that he's the best manager we've had in recent years, I disagree. I've mentioned on a previous post about my belief Sheridan ahs an inability to spot a good enough player whereas one Brian Talbot brought in a 17 year old Kilkenny and Lee Croft in on loan to save us from relegation. He was also working on an even smaller budget than Sheridan so couldn't bring in the players he wished adn I personally wouldn't be too disheartened if we gave him another shot, although highly unlikely.

    end of the bell
