  1. The milisecond of quiet as Wabara's header didn't go over the bar but nestled in the far corner(from those of us fortunate enough to be in the Rocky Road End , next to the Liverpool fans) .....before the explosion of noise as we lead Suarez , Sturidge , Sterling and co 3-1 was the best moment in 20 years imo.

And the half time disbelief that Matt smith had scored twice against the 5 times Kings of Europe .......at home , something he wasn't exactly known for.

The last 15 minutes of incessant pressure as a quality team like Everton buckled under it.

  2. I would play 4-1-4-1 , with Tarks in front of the back four. This would need Clarke -Harris as the one up front , a difficult role but one he could do .

The form of the team has dipped . Take away the unbeaten aspect , the home draws with Chesterfield & Mansfield were disappointing. We did a professional job on a desperate Mansfield team in the replay.

Two away games in the next four days with players missing & the manager tearing them to pieces(deservedly) for the Colchester performance , an interesting few days await.

  3. Can't imagine he is being peddled so soon if it was just his performances .....if so he would not be alone.

Eighteen months on his contract for the manager & coaches to extract the potential they saw.

Managers need to spend as much as time and energy in finding out about the man , personality , attitude , off field issues , location move .....and not just how good someone is at 'keepy uppey'.

  4. Beckett and Hughes the only quality strikers we have had in recent memory. Beckett in particular was a goal machine.

I didn't have any recollection of having seen Rooney before we bought him.

But lots of people seemed to rave about him & what a belting player we had managed to get signed for us.
Having now seen him play on a number of occasions he looks very limited , no pace , not a great finisher and
no more than average passing and holding the ball up in my opinion.
He would have been expected to be first choice of our four main strikers but you could argue he is currently last in the pecking order.
  5. Let's not forget we did not look like beating Mansfield after 55 minutes . Fortunately we did find the answer but they are a truly awful side on a dreadful run(continued today).

If we hadn't won on Tuesday along with today's result & performance along with going out to Chesterfield it would be very grim.

Lower league football seems full of games were teams and players in them throw in lethargic , clueless , passionless performance many times a season. It is infuriating to fans to see it and the players & management seem oblivious to this. Colchester the latest team (of many) to come here in dreadful form ready to be taken apart and instead we fall apart. same old same old.

  6. Didn't the last City loanee go back as he wasn't getting a game ?

Perhaps City weren't impressed with this and wouldn't lend us another player unless he was likely to get a game .....which as he seems about as much use a chocolate fireguard is not a good situation to be in.

  7. Either keeper

    Lanzoni ----- Tarkowski ----- Kusunga ----- Grounds

    Wesolowski ----- Smith

Petrasso -- Rooney ----- Philiskirk --- Clarke -Harris

Not a cat in hell's chance this attacking formation will start , but should imo.

No need to hold back , they have only beaten St Albans since September .......yes one victory over a non league team

They will be desperate to put right how wronged they feel about not getting a replay at Anfield due to a dodgy winning goal.

If we play like at Brentford , limiting a top team to 3 on target shots at home , we are home and dried but......

We would be 6th not 16th if we followed up a quality performance with another straight after on a regular basis.

I see it as a either a one goal victory ,hanging on grimly or the unthinkable and Anfield and Wembley vanishing on successive Tuesdays.

I hope to be proven hopelessly wrong and we batter them as we should , no more compliments on what a great 'losing' side we are .

  8. Referring back to the 3-0 home defeat to Grimsby that ended Graeme Sharp's tenure.

I recall the third goal going in , scored at the Rochdale Road End , where we were sat in the large paddock.

The one moment in my decades as a fan that I was as happy as the opposition fans that they scored a third .

I felt straight away that it would be the straw that broke the camels back and that this horrendous period at our club was over.....and thankfully it was.

  9. 2-0 League Cup defeat at Old Trafford.

Game over after about 2 minutes as the fantastic new full back Big Joe bought (no wonder it went pear shaped with these top division purchases) went to sleep in the as McClair scored ......game over.

He was taken off straight after a shot from distance went for a throw in.

What really bothered me was in going yo see this rubbish , I missed seeing Nirvana at the Academy .....boo hoo

  10. Tin pot ! ....yes probably does get in the way of our Champions League campaign.

Only realistic route to Wembley , and lots of lower league teams have enjoyed their day out their in this competition.

My eldest daughter was distraught at the two legged defeat 2 seasons ago ......and the same again yesterday.

She had been so looking forward to cheering her team on at Wembley and I doubt she is alone particularly among the fans not old enough to have been to our previous games there.

If we make a dogs dinner of next Tuesday there will be nothing to get in the way of our league campaign . And nice as probably not being a relegation dogfight is , a trip to Wembley and / or Anfield would be a bonus.

  11. They had far more than once chance first half , two shots just wide and two headers from corners just wide( we were hopeless at defending corners). They ran themselves into the ground chasing our players down ,so were out on their legs in the last 30 .......so for the last 30 minutes Kusunga seemed to have the ball all the time , midfield were sadly lacking when needed.

Two home games against lower division teams without a win in not something to shout about .

We are one more naff cup performance away from having the last 6 months of the season with nothing to play for.

  12. Unbeaten run continues( 90 minutes ) bu two failures to beat lower league clubs in 4 days is desperately disappointing. A loss at Mansfield now will be crushing.

First half was very poor , only Philiskirk & Petrasso played well. They looked like scoring every time they attacked , yet their goal came form yet another shocking ball given away by Mr dependable......

Second half our keeper had nothing to do .Clarke-Harris played well but still we didn't create very much & both teams seemed far too content with pens.

I am gutted for the younger fans that twice now they have been let down by our team in three years with Wembley so close.

Chesterfield were bottom of our division two years ago & are now in division two , our team blew it again !
