I really don't think that the person who said it would be in a position to do so without possibly costing our manager his job.
surely if it was "he couldn't be arsed" rather than "he didn't think he was worth signing" then there is a case for sacking him

Given we gave Lee Hughes a second chance, what should Newcastle do ?
-
He was a complete tool
He speaks very highly of you too !!!
-
Whereabouts in the Midlands are you?
Just outside Leicester - all the in-laws are big Leicester fans, so looking forward to the 6 points next season
-
Born and bred in Norn Iron - moved to Middleton in 1988 and when faced with a decision to watch Manure, :censored:eh, or Latics, well there was only one winner.
Now married to an English girl in the Midlands - 3 kids, 2 Latics fans
Bloody hell - i've been a Latics fan for 20 years now

I'm a big fan of Lee, and the Club for signing him despite the media nonsense it was bound to cause.
However ..... having watched the interview, I am slightly concerned that he will be off at the end of the season if we don't win promotion. I have a couple of problems with that - firstly he was a GREAT signing, but it feels as if he has hardly played. Given the crap we took, I would have hoped that we would have got more of a return.
My second concern is about his contract - I assume that he signed for 2 years, and that if we don't go up, and he leaves, we don't get a penny. I'm not going to call HIM a greedy barsteward - I would do the same, probably even in the circumstances - but maybe, just MAYBE, the Club should be thinking about this, and either try to tie him up for a longer period, or see if we could get a reasonable fee for him now.
I don't want him to go, and I'm not being negative, but there's no guarantees in this world and 500K (??) for a 31 year old is better than 0 for a 32 year old.
Finally, can I just say that it was good to see him laughing, and to hear an interview where they didn't drag up stuff from 4-5 years ago.
Well done Channel M.

Strong praise indeed. I defer to your greater knowledge of the lad, and I can't wait to see the new Rooney in action. Do they televise conference games?
Actually, yes they do ...... Setanta Sports have excellent coverage of the Blue Square Premier
-
well done Matthew - beat me - i got 5 wrong (including Ian Marshall, even though I was there !!!)
-
He did the Latics proud, won, and is in the final.
Well done young man.
Yeah - well done Matthew
-
stuart barlow anyone ?
-
leave him alone - he's quality and we should back him rather than alienate him from the club
ricketts / davies / hughes
go on, name a better front 3
-
how about getting chickers to be his driver
Do you think that Lee sees us as a Rescue Club ?
I wonder what The Irons are making of all the fuss at Upton Park ?
If we get through in the Carling Cup, do you think he might make his debut at St Andrews ?
Or will he make his debut in Augusta ?
(sorry if they've been used before, and if they're not funny !!!)
Off topic - did you know that Jonathon Gaunt is an anagram of
f***ing tosser.... I mean "A Taunting John" -
Bring it On !!!!!

anybody notice that Doncaster think we finished outside the play offs last year ......... maybe they tricked him into signing with that !!!!!
Ah yes - markoasis did - sorry !!

People - we need to get a sense of prespective here ..... a 23 year old lad would appear to have been given a better job offer than his current employers could / were prepared to make. I suspect that the job offer is not better by the 2-3 grand per year we would hope for when moving jobs - it's probably more like 20 - 50 grand per year, and I genuinely do defy anyone on here to say that they would turn that down. No really ... would you ???
OK - I know that people will talk about loyalty, and all that we have done for him ......... but I think that he repaid us handsomely for that last year, and whilst I am sure that he would like to be loved in this part of the world, that isn't going to pay his mortgage when he retires. Footballers have a limited shelf life, and have to earn enough money in 10 - 15 years to allow them to support themselves for the rest of their lives - 100K over two years (if that is what is it) will go a long way towards that.
On another point - I too have serious issues about the power of agents in football HOWEVER it is the agents job to get his client the best deal that he can, and it would appear to me that Mr O'Keeefe (or whoever he is) would have done a very good job here. Just because we are on the receiving end this time i don't think it gives us licence to make some of the comments that have been made on here. In my opinion, wishing injury on anyone, and particularly someone who relies on his fitness to earn his money, is unacceptable, and I want to distance myself from those sentiments on this thread.
Chris Porter didn't make the rules, just the same as Lee Hughes didn't pass his own sentence. Both have "exploited" the rules, one to the detriment of our club, and one very much to our benefit. That's life - let's just hope that TTA see it that way and they continue the support they have given us ove the past few years. That is the real issue here.
I suspect that this will be controversial ...... I'm around all night if anyone wants to comment - I have a stack of stella in the fridge so i can't guarantee to make sense all night.
Now should I press the "post" button ...... obviously yes
-
I'd actually like to think that he wasn't given a choice other than to "retire".
If he wasn't, and the pompous little **** thought that he could dismiss what little talent he had to do what most of us would die to be able to do, then he is beneath contempt.
Maybe he was scared of Hughesy ......
-
definitely a latics legend - I remember the pitch with the worn patch about a foot away from the line on the left wing in each half
I also remember the "goalie" incident - but I thought it was at Boundary Park against Banik Ostrava (or did I dream that)
Was it really 15 years ago ?????
-
I think this has the potential to be the best signing we have made for years ....... can you imagine all of the other avaliable plodders out there that it could have been
Re the moral "dilemna" others are talking about - the man has served his time - if you don't agree, stand for parliament and change the law
I just hope this doesn't turn out to be another Heffernan

So let suppose the rumour about Mr Richards is true. Who else has played for the 2 top teams in Manchester
Denis Irwin
Andy Ritchie
Kieran Lee (soon)
Paul Scholes (hopefully)
Martin Buchan
Micheal Clegg (!)
?
And before you start, I know Oldham is not in Manchester, and Micah never played for our first team, but you get my drift !
