  1. The one thing I think is lacking from his game is desire. He's never going to be one who puts the team on his shoulders and wins us the game.

That being said 6 months ago he was the first name on the team sheet.

It doesn't surprise me that he isn't being picked by Kelly who as a player was under talented and got through by grit and desire alone. And it's not like we have really kicked on without Winchester.

  2. Darren Kelly sounds like a puppet, if it's true I'm not surprised the players aren't following his instructions! The guy doesn't command respect or seem to have any kind of authority about him. He told us he had the antedote to this league and lo and behold it was a lie. It seems he's not been included in transfer discussions which then makes you wonder what he's there for?

I'm tired of people saying "give him a chance" blah blah blah, we are now sliding down that slope towards extinction and these 2 chumps are waving there hands in the air enjoying the ride

  3. BP1960 have you ever heard of a centre back called Tom Batchelor? I've known him since he was 18 after being released from Shrewsbury Town. He's currently playing for Stamford Town and is getting rave reviews. When I had him in my team he was very raw but he's got all the attributes, 6ft 4, very athletic and by all accounts in the last couple of years has got some experience and has filled out a bit.

  4. The players do have to take a portion of the blame for bad performances but it's blatant to see/hear that they are lacking direction/motivation/confidence which is all down to the management team. Strange unexplained decisions are also starting to baffle me. Lack of Cb is the big one surely he must of known he needed one or two so why wasn't it dealt with? Brian Wilson told he can leave and then plays and uses up minutes when we should be settling the back four in! Using playershare money to bring over a lad and then not give him any time in a trial match? I mean we are a month and a half into his reign and he has not done one thing that has given me the slightest inkling that he's cut out for the job. The controversy of getting rid of the manager will be nothing compared to being cut adrift at Christmas! The new stand will be opened and we will have lost half the fans that were willing to go....my opinion is based on facts

  5. As the season gets closer I thought I'd take a look at the strikers we will be witnessing this year, and with the lack of defenders on our books this looks like scary reading, how many would you swap for Cassidy, Forte and Turner?

  6. BlueGuru absolutely spot on. I'm 32 years old and started supporting Oldham Athletic because of my dad. I have never lived in Oldham and every home game I have been too has been coupled with a 4 hour round trip. At the time of falling in love with football Oldham were exciting to watch, relatively successful and were the little club taking on big boys. I'm guessing a lot of people from my generation fell in love with Oldham for the same reason....but what about this generation? At this moment in time there is absolutely nothing that is going to get the next generation to pick Oldham over anyone else, my frustration is when we have an opportunity to inject some excitement into our football club people who don't sit in the rain at a cold Port Vale on a Tuesday night losing his voice roaring the club on decide to ignore the opportunity and go cheap.

I honestly think the club is dying. Maybe not yet, the books are balanced and that's brilliant but without moving forward you begin to stagnate and ultimately break down.

  7. I think it's safe to say, the Oldham Athletic most of us fell in love with has deceased and been replaced.

For all the people criticising the people not wanting to go anymore please remember that we don't owe Oldham Athletic anything, we go only for enjoyment, if you are no longer getting enjoyment from it you are absolutely within your rights to not go. Do people not understand that this decision is born out of utter frustration!

  8. This appointment has unfortunately been the last straw for me.

This isn't aimed at Kelly, it's the distinct disconnection I'm feeling from the football club I love.

I am a football fan but haven't been a fan of football for a while now. My allegiance to Oldham Athletic has been stout. But there comes a time when the river runs dry. Moore trying to ruin us, Dowie leaving, Sheridan getting the boot, Dickovs appointment, Baxter being sold, Montano match fixing, Getting dogs abuse on twitter from Oldham fans and non Oldham fans for standing by the club through the Ched Evans debacle, LJ leaving us without a whimper and now this appointment has pushed me over the edge. Throughout all this we have not had any kind of period of sustained success. We have flirted with the play offs very very sporadically but sustained success none! I want more I'm afraid and have grown tired at having any kind of hope taken away just as I start to believe things are moving forward.

People will think I'm overreacting etc but please come back to me when Corneys next big decision or the one after that is of the same ilk and more and more people's faith will begin to leave.

All the best of Luck Oldham Athletic, I love you I'm just not in love with you anymore

  9. whether he was or he wasn't, being the wage payer I was slightly disrespected by the fact that the person who had asked us to follow him had decided to do one without the decency to announce it first.

He was Barnsley manager when that game took place it just hadnt been announced. Its not a technicality it a point that people are holding on to Beat a dead horse.

Managers move jobs from other clubs. For that to happen a contract must end.

If he resigned and left to turn up there a week later you would think he was a judas anyway

  10. The moment the picture of him at the Scunny v Barnsley game prior to any announcement and while still under contract with us was released he showed his absolute disrespect he has for our club. He has mentioned us 3 times now I think since leaving, it seems like he thinks we owe him something rather than our club taking a punt on an unproven manager.

Managers all over the world constantly use the line "I won't talk about players under contract with another club out of respect" unfortunately LJ doesn't give a flying.

If he wants our players so be it. We get a fee and move on.....but Mr Corney if the decision has made to sell said player I implore you to do all you can to squeeze as much money out of anyone willing to pay it, including the poisoned dwarf

  11. Please can someone help me, I'm coming to oldham city centre for the first time in about 20 years tomorrow (I'm only 32) and was wondering the best way to get to the ground from the centre, in the past I have driven to the ground without venturing into the town but I'm here by train this time, any help would be appreciated
