  1. Read a few posts on here annoyed at Davies so wondered who we would rather have?

2 Different kind of players i know but both employed to score goals.

Please forget that Porter bent us over, base your response purely on footballing ability.

Tough One, at this very moment definitely Porter simply because of his record last year and what he's done so far this year North of the Border. But Davies has more of the physical attributes than Porter has and Davies has scored more already in his 1st season than Porter did in his IIRC.

Although we haven't been scoring the goals so far this year, I'm very excited about what the Davies & Hughes partnership could produce next season. :D

  2. 1 It is a long time since I heard any one refer to the “race riots”

2 When talking about Oldham few people mention Oldham Athletic. Many do refer to the sad demise of Tommy Field Market.

This might be adding to your argument, but what is Tommy Field Market?!

Anytime I mention that I support Oldham to anyone around my area funnily enough they don't speak mournfully about the Tommy Field Market demise!

What an idiot Eileen Hulme is!

  3. I wont boo at the game it only gets to the players and defeats the point!

ALLEGEDLY I must be really stupid though because looking at all the facts in the cold light of day and adding up all the positives and negativities I can still only find one common denominator in our failings andALLEGEDLY that’s John Sheridan.

ALLEGEDLY Were just not going to agree but I think the tactics are wrong ALLEGEDLY there’s no motivation ALLEGEDLY he’s lost the dressing roomALLEGEDLY no players listen to him, ALLEGEDLY players are falling out i.e.ALLEGEDLY Rickets lamping Taylor mid week ALLEGEDLY Kilkenny not liking Davies or ALLEGEDLY being able to play with Kalala because they don’t get on the list is endless.

ALLEGEDLY I seem to be banging my head against the wall but if you knew the facts and weighed them up you would formulate the same opinion as myself, but at the end of the day that’s not what I want, I just want improvement and I am here to gauge opinions not to go on a crusade.

Kyle, I see your point and just by looking at the league table gives you a valid reason to put it across. But please stop all this ALLEGEDLY rubbish because it makes you come across as a crazy ranter and it doesn't add to your argument at all.

    Cheers

  4. One point to take into account is that one play off team always gets relegated the following season, Hartlepool lost in the final and were relegated two seasons ago , Brentford got to the play offs and were relegated last year

But Senor, you've missed out one vital point in that statement.

Neither Hartlepool nor Brentford had the same manager that got them to the playoffs for the season after, we do.

Regarding this poll, don't get me wrong, I too think that Shez has made some bad decisions this season. But this is not time to be making a long term decision like "Sack the manager" especially in our situation, because if you look back at the number of managerial changes we've had since we came into this league I think it shows the reason why we are still in this league. Ritchie has had the longest reign out of any manager since relegation to this division and towards the end of his reign we were slowly but surely starting to make an impact in this league.

I'd rather take my chances with Shez, who didn't do too badly in his 1st full season if you remember, than anyone else (it really doesn't matter who it is) who will perform even more surgery on this already plastic team and inevitably put us right back where we started.

  5. Shouldn't even be up for discussion - has been brill - Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruben - lar lar la lar la lar

    73rd Voter. still 100%!

Would probably still prefer Stam alongside Gregan but you can't argue with how well the Gregan/Hazell partnership is going, he deserves a contract until the end of the season and discuss an extension at that time.

So just over ten years ago, that is how Football League Division Two finished.

Just shows what can happen in 10 Years.

Few to note: York City, dropped the lowest from the class of 97/98. Fulham (arguably) have done the best.

While all other teams have either be relegated or promoted, we are the only team to have stayed in this division.

Back then the squad looked something like this:

    • Gary Kelly
    • Jon Halworth
    • Carl Serrant
    • Gunner Halle
    • David Beresford
    • Nicky Banger
    • Danny Boxall
    • Craig Fleming
    • Nick Henry
    • Mark Hotte
    • Ronnie Jepson
    • Adrain Littlejohn (Little :censored: injuring Les)
    • Lee Richardson
    • Lee Sinnot
    • Ian Snodin
    • Phil Starbuck
    • Tommy Wright
    • Matthew Rush
    • Steve Redmond
    • Ian Ormondroyd
    • David Miskelly
    • Sean McCarthy
    • Stuart Barlow
One of the reasons I chose this particular season is because these are the first players I remember, while I attended matches previously (and remember bits) this group of players were the first ones I truly remember playing at BP. While not being succesful as a squad, some of them had served at BP during the 'glory days' and had known success, however, I distinctly remember the game that we got relegated after just over 10 years ago, I went all through the 96/97 season and only remember a few snippets, that game being one of the biggest memories.

I have never known a sucessful Oldham Athletic. Yet I support the club through everything, I want them to do well, I always cheer the players, whatever their background is, I have the passion and the desire that many at BP lack.

Maybe some of the older and wiser people at Boundary Park could stop moaning about 'the good old days' and how good we 'used to be' and start cheering the players because some, like myself, have never seen the same success and wont do while people reminise about what has been and gone. For your children and grandchildren, let them experience what you did only 15 years ago, cheer the lads on and lets see this club rise once more.

We are here for one reason, we follow the club for one reason. WE WANT SUCCESS!

    COME ON YOU BLUES.

Totally agree. It's a very similar to me. The first season I remember following Latics was towards the end of the 94/95 season when I was 6 and success has certainly been scarce since then. But one thing I will never tolerate is the people who have seen the "pinch me years" only looking back and believing that the glory days have been and gone, because it seems very apathetic and selfish to me. Am I being unrealistic? Maybe, but there is such a fine line in this case between being realistic and accepting defeat that I think it is much more simple to believe that things will come good again for us!

  7. Exeter Vs Oldham 1st August 1997, I remember actually seeing Colin smile (photo to prove it), being refused an autograph by Andy Ritchie jokingly, Dux being a top bloke and Lee Sinnott smoking numerous fags while talking to my dad. Best memory was when I was shooting weakly against Gary Kelly in the warm up when he said "C'mon, shoot properly lad!" So I blasted my last five shots past him which properly jinxed him because less than a minute into the match he was picking the ball out of the net! We won 3-1 in the end with McCarthy scoring and Barlow getting a brace so all smiles! :)

  8. Name? the_mighty_bosh (formerly theoldhamdevonian on JKL)

    Location? Exeter, Devon

How long supporting the Tics? 13 years (since I was 5).

Best away match you've been to? Fittingly, Swindon away 2 years ago. 20/25 minutes straight of "OHHHH WHEN THE BLUUUUUUUES...", backs against the wall 2-1 victory, a Muzza screamer, virtually assuring survival after a season of hell, JJ finally managing to hit the cow's backside with his banjo...that match had it all!

All time greatest player? Shez, closely followed by Eyresy.

Biggest Rivals (in your eyes)? United, then City. (I also hate Plymouth Argyle)

    Voila. :)
