If LJ called a 37 year old player "really good" I would have to question his judgement.
Really? I could understand you questioning his judgement if he called a 37 year old player a "talented youngster", but in terms of footballing ability, I'll leave that to him!

Credit to BP1960, mentioned this lad on here weeks ago. Very good reviews. Quick, skilful and can whip in a ball. And at 24, could be an excellent signing at this level.
Impressed with this cross for the first, too:

Signing to be announced at 8am tomorrow. Lot of signs pointing to Dayton.

I think Dayton would be an excellent signing after his reviews this season. I think it would be bye bye Croft if so but I think Johnson has clearly hinted that Croft would make way if someone better happened to be available (albeit with a tongue in cheek comment about Ronaldo)

i like Cliff, but a transfer fee for a 31 year old injury prone journeyman cb? Give over.
What is it with the word journeyman on this forum? He is as far from a journeyman as you'll find anywhere at this level! After going through the Sunderland youth system, he was at Scunthorpe for 10 years during which they had a three year spell in the championship. More than qualified.
Maybe we could come to some other kind of arrangement, are there any players at Scunthorpe that we might be interested in?
-
We should give him a rise and a release clause. Without us, he wouldn't have been in the position he is now. He's 23 and can prove himself not to be a flash in the pan by playing and scoring regularly next season. If he wants to warm the bench in the championship, good luck to him, but a little bit of loyalty might go a long way in the future. Short term greed has the potential to back fire. Other than the 3 FA Cup games, Bury, Yeovil & Crawley, he'd been relatively ineffective. He's got a long way to go yet, I think he'd be better served spending more time with us.
I agree with Pukka.
Despite being relatively ineffective in a number of games, and having a long way to go - we too wouldn't be in the position we're in without him. He has more than repaid us for the gamble we took on him.
-
Seems fairly clear..
Was with Jack Whitehall -> went to the FA Cup Final as a result of being player of the round -> now on holiday in LA -> where will he be going at the end of June?
To Oldham or otherwise?
-
The players here though will know the difference, they'll have seen it for themselves since Johnson took over. If they take themselves seriously as footballers, would they move to player under him again? Maybe they would if they fancy the easy ride again.

Id never sell Baxter, as I personally want to see the best players nutmegging 2 leyton orient players without even trying. That entertainment alone makes him worth watching every week. Shove your money up your arse, us fans woudlnt see any of it.
I'd rather we won a game 3-0 with worse players..
-
If he offered £1m for Baxter would you take it?
Snap your hand off. We'd be lucky to get 250k with so many players available on frees.

So, LJ made it clear when he started here that he wants pace up front. Now pace and goalscoring are two traits that are difficult to obtain individually, never mind together. Can you think of players we could realistically obtain? Might we look to the lower leagues for a Wayne Andrews type?
I don't expect us to go back in for Aaron McClean after he turned us down once already.
N.B Scott Vernon does not have pace. We cannot afford Matt Derbyshire. Febian Brandy will never end up here. Kirk Millar is good, but not the answer to ALL of our problems. Warren Feeney does not satisfy any of the criteria.

Dayton been offered a new 3-year contract at Kilmarnock. Says he's focused on recovering from injury (broken ribs) before he continues negotiations and sorts out his future.
Took only five minutes of solid research (stalking) to find that he is good mates with LJ.

I think LJ is more likely to go for a winger he knows who I understand is out of contract at Kilmarnock, James Dayton.
Anything in this or just a hunch? Had a spell at Yeovil too.
Shiels seems to think he should be playing for England... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/scottish-premier/9967143/James-Dayton-should-play-for-England-says-Kilmarnock-manager-Kenny-Shiels-and-hes-not-joking.html

Heard Tarky has had his head turned too but as we've offered him a deal compo will be forthcoming. However I expect him to be told to stop being do :censored:ing stupid and to continue his development here...
I like Tarky, but I wouldn't be too upset if he left in return for compensation.

Hmmm. About what I thought would be done by LJ; and just about what i would have done myself.
I dont rate Connor Brown. At all. But - as back-up for both full-back positions: I guess I can see that. I'm very worried though if he is lining up as 1st choice RB next season.
The Bouzy Vs Cisak one is a tad strange - in that if LJ rated Cisak more than Bouzy; surely he'd have played him? But - like a few; I think Cisak is the better 'Keeper. Now; after a fractured season including a loan away from the club; whether he signs his deal or not will remain to be seen.
Hopefully JYM, Smith & Croft re-sign.....but if they dont; so be it.
Good luck to Simmo, Hughes, Jacub, Bouzy & Taylor in getting fixed up at another club.
I think the released list in general shows LJ has some balls. Could you imagine Dickov cutting Simpson and Bouzanis loose? I don't think he would. Would offer them both nothing terms and drag out the whole process. I expect quick decisions.
As another note, I wouldn't take for granted all the young players signing up just yet. They wont have been offered great terms. They could be tempted by a slightly better offer and the promise of football at a lower level a la Smalley.
-
Add José Baxter to that list!
-
Christ, how tones change.
We had the two best keepers in ten years at the start of the season.. did they leave?
-
Belezika over Tarky though for me, improve his kicking and it looks like we've got a fairly good defender there.
Kicking is a very handy skill for a footballer, I agree.
-
I like it on this image a lot more than on the original post. I also enjoy how the club used pretty much the only three players we have left under contract to model it...
-
Baxter and Croft and Montano coupled with 2 good strikers and the development of Millar is formidable in this league. I just hope LJ has the same ability to bring in big players like Dickov had.
I agree although I'd rather he sign crap players and get them playing well than waste a chunk of the budget on 'coups' such as Iwelumo!
I'd like to see a lot more from Montano. Needs to work on his final ball. From what I have seen (admittedly, not very much) he has seemed short on confidence but despite that he was excellent against Preston at home before tiring. Perhaps a good pre-season and a bit of faith is what he needs.
-
I think Cisak (right now) is just about the better goalkeeper. But Bouzanis is a very good keeper in his own right and epitomises the passion and desire that has so often been lacking in other areas of the pitch. So it's Bouzy for me
-
To be fair, talking of timing this doesn't appear to be an "announcement" by the club as such. With no direct quotes from SC in there it sounds as though this could have been spoken about at any point over the past few weeks and isn't in fact, new news. I'm almost certain I've read already that the budget would be cut again anyway, possibly just shortly after LJ arrived.
-
Is it as black and white as that Pete? Are we alive now?
Perhaps we are, but were in a coma paralysed from the neck down.
Hey, maybe we'll wake up in 1973.
But then again I suppose such drastic modernisation would never be approved in the boardroom.
Paul Dickov gets Doncaster job

I think a director of football is necessary for any club that will hire Paul Dickov as their manager..
