  1. I think we need to get a 'proper' captain - a vocal leader who wont pussyfoot around and will bollock people who need bollocking - someone who will be johnsons voice on the pitch.

We have been short of this for ages - too many quiet mice types - i want tough! When the chips are down he can drag everyone along.

Hopefully lj has someone in mind from his travels cos we dont have anyone already at the club.

  2. 86-87 Latics 3 Blackburn 0 - A second half hat-trick from substitute Mike Cecere saw Latics head into the Play Offs in good heart

87-88 Latics 2 Bournemouth 0 - An Andy Ritchie Penalty and John Williams Own goal saw Latics home.

Struggling until Christmas, a run of only 4 defeats in 25 from the beginning of December, saw Latics finish 10th in the old Second Division.

88-89 Latics 2 Swindon 2 An early Roger Palmer strike was quickly cancelled out by two quick-fire Swindon goals. A late header from andy Holden rescued a point for mid-table Latics.

89-90 Latics 1 Wolves A late equaliser broke Latics hearts, Roger Palmer's strike being matched by a Time Steele's leveller. Latics chance of the Play Offs although still mathematical, had disappeared.

    90-91Latics 3 Sheff Wed 2 Enough Said

91-92 Latics 2 Man City 5 Latics had survived easily in their first season back in the top flight, Nick Henry scored early, then City ripped us apart. David White bagging a hat-trick, with Sheron and Mike adding others, Before Paul Moulden grabbed a consolation.

92-93 Latics 4 Southampton 3 The Great Escape!

93-94 Latics 0 Spurs 2 Latics had to win, our the game was up! They didn't, whilst relegation wasn't yet confirmed they needed a mathematical miracle. The Boundary Park pitch's susceptibility to waterlogging coupled with the FA Cup run had seen this fixture called off three times before the FA turned down our season extension request instead shoe-horning it in as part of a final five games played in 10 days!

94-95 Latics 3 Bolton 1 Latics had blown hot and cold all season, Bolton had been excellent at home but iffy away, still they had qualified for the Play Offs. A Sean McCarthy brace and a goal from rookie Paul Rockers saw Latics spring a surprise.

95/96 Latics 1 Luton 0 Latics had already assured Safety by beating Stoke three days earlier, Lution already relegated and Latics in holiday mood saw a dour game won late on by Stuart Barlow,

96/97 Latics 3 Norwich 0 Latics already down, put on a super show to dismantle a decent Norwich side containing Milligan and Adams. Early goals from Barlow and McCarthy added to by Matthew Rush for a resounding win.

97/98 Latics 3 Burnley 3 An absolute thriller at Boundary Park, Burnley struck first before Jepson equalised the Clarets then stormed into a 3-1 lead at half-time. Shaun Garnett saw red early in the 2nd half before two in two minutes from Rickes and Allott saw the spoils shared.

98/99 Latics 2 Reading 0 The equation was simple, win and hope York lost at Man City. City did their bit by hammering York 4-0 and two early goals from Mark Innes and Paul Rickers saw jpyous scenes at Boundary park, as the club had dodged the bullet of relegation.

99/00 Latics 1 Blackpool 1 Despite a horrendous start that only saw one win until mid-October, by this late April clash, Latics were comfortably in mid-table. The Donkey Lashers however had to win to stay up. They took the lead midway through the second half, a young Richie Wellens then saw red before a late leveller from Ryan Sugden saw Blackpool relegated.

00/01 Latics 1 Stoke 2 An instantly forgettable clash, played on a terrible quagmire of mud and sand. Sam Parkin put mid-table Latics in front before two late goals saw Stoke confirm their play off place.

01/02 Latics 1 QPR 0 A season of upheaval on and off the field had seen Latics threaten the Play Off places but ultimately after an early spring collapse saw Mick Wadsworth's men come up short and finish 9th. Julien Baudet's early strike was enough to take the spoils.

P02/03 Latics 4 Swindon 0 Latics Play Off place was confirmed with a resounding win over the Robins. David Eyres, Corazzin, Josh Low and Haining with the goals.

03/04 Latics 2 Chesterfield 0 Latics had all but secured survival with a brilliant win at Swindon the week before, another point was needed to make sure and Chesterfield themselves needed the points. A brace from John Eyre eased the nerves and confirmed survival after a season of financial uncertainty.

04/05 Latics 2 Bradford 1 Another do or die afternoon, Latics had to at least equal MK Dons result to stay up. early goals from Chris Killen and Luke Beckett either side of Dean Windass' superb free-kick saw Boundary Park more relieved than joyous.

05/06 Latics 1 Scunthorpe 1 Ronnie Moore's men had at times been superb but mostly average. They had even threatened a late play off charge - even looking like they might worry the top two in miid-march with games in hand, before collapsing into a run of no win in their final seven games. A memorable day as it was David Eyres last appearance for the club, typically he opened the scoring with a tricky strike beofre a late Billy Sharp equaliser saw this day as did many others this year, end in disappointment.

06/07 Latics 1 Chesterfield 0 With Swansea breathing down our necks nothing less than a win would do to qualify for the play offs. The team looked nailed on to gain promotion in February, before the annual collapse saw only 4 wins in the final 15 games. A Chris Porter header saw Shez's men limp into the Play Offs.

07/08 Latics 2 Cheltenham 1 The last time Boundary Park was a four-sided stadium in a competitive fixture. Deane Smalley and Lewis Alessandra fired Latics to a final home win and a finish of 8th.

08/09 Latics 1 Southend 1 Joe Royle's last home game of his second short tenure. Neal Eardley's penalty was cancelled out and symptomatic how Latics had treaded water since the turn of the year. Play Off hopes had disappeared a month earlier.

09/10 Latics 0 Charlton 2 Dave Penney's ill-fated regime had ended a few days befpoe, his trusted Lieutenant - Martin Gray had assumed control but the tactics were similarly poor.

10/11 Latics 1 MK Dongs 2 An awful run from February onwards should have in hindsight seen greater questions asked of Paul Dickov's managerial ability, this was the 9th straight home game without a win. Lifting the gloom was a cracking Carl Winchester strike that was sadly in vain as Keanu Marsh-brown grabbed the decider for the Mongs.

11/12 Latics 2 Carlisle 1 Another awful run had seen the team again go 8 games without a win, before Second Half goals from Tarky and Tonk saw Latics home, either side of Tom Taiwo's equaliser.

If i'm not mistaken didnt a certain jean yves mvoto score for southend in 08/09? Or did i dream that!
