  1. Heard an interview with him over the weekend & was saying his parents back in Oz are not in great health so even before todays news I was thinking he would be wanting to return home.

During Dowie's spell here I thought Les was one of the best keepers outside the Premiership.

Good luck for the future Les.

  2. I can already report that the "new stand" remains in the same state it's been for the last few seasons, something to do with them not being able to afford the computerised turnstile system (according to my Port Vale season ticket holding boss).

Let's hope this is the last time we have to visit this place for many years.

Despite them being bottom of the league I go their with no expectations of victory whatsoever. Groundhog day. :(

  3. Tis true , just like today then came and went BUT we always replaced them with another top class striker who instantly became a fans favorite ..........something i really have missed in recent years :disappointed:

Just wondered who was the last striker we signed who went on to become a true hero - I bet it was probably Stitch - 20 years ago !

  4. W

Top of the tree are 3 other Tics who have been up to 150 grounds and that is Chris Mcgoo and Lisa then Sir Dave Hudson ....

Not sure these would be top of the tree amongst Latics fans.

Guy I sit next to in the Chaddy must have been to several hundred. Missing about 5 of the current league grounds but visits non league grounds in leagues I have never even heard of all over the UK. Been to all Scottish grounds as well

Regularly goes to games in Belgium, Holland & Germany and not just the top divisions either. Follows Scotland all over Europe, been to every World Cup since 1974 as well as European Championships and the African Nations.

Now doing American football stadiums, baseball stadiums and hockey stadiums.

    No he's not married

I've done 58 of the current football league/premiership and about 80 in total including old grounds and non league grounds.

  5. Highest - probably Southport in 1974. Only about 10 at the time so not sure how many we took but can remember a large traffic jam full of Oldham fans on the way into Southport and all 4 sides it seemed full of our supporters.

Southend away this season was pretty lonely - especially 10 minutes before kick off when I counted about 30 of us. Luckily it filled up, if you can call it that, to about 200.

  6. Just wondering if it isn't about time the captain took some responsibility here, be that Eardley or Allott. If it's not working and Taylors confidence is taking a bashing then surely the captain should be big enough to either say "give it here, I'll take it" or tell someone else to have a go. Whats the point of being captain if you say nowt.

  7. Bet Les Chapman could tell you a tale or two about him

Lived near me and drove a white Triumph Stag convertable and had the 16 year old wife as well :o

Scored one of the finest goals ever seen at BP against Portsmouth I think. Ran the length of the field and crashed it into the roof of the net at the Chaddy End.

Always had a chat to the crowd in the Ford Stand Paddock before kick off. Unbelievable player, how on earth Sir Jimmy signed him for 10K is a complete mystery.

People of a certain age could talk about this fella for hours on end......and frequently do :imnotworthy:

  8. "Rocket" Ronny Jepson - Why was he called Rocket ? - rubbish

Wayne Gill - he was shocking

Steve Whitehall - another striker who hardly scored for us. By the way his son is a cracking player, I believe he's on Liverpools books.

I have vague memories of us signing Tony Hateley as well in the 70's and him always being injured

  9. There is no way we can rival the sort of offer doncaster would put his way.....:(

It could also end in tears for Doncaster............Championship wages, big squad, big transfer fees..............but relatively small crowds and no guarantee of promotion. Been there with Chris Moore

  10. Funny how opposition fans see a different game sometimes.

I thought the ref gave them a lot of free kicks when it was 50/50. Listened to their manager afterwards on the radio and he was going on about them having having missed loads of clear chances. I could only remember the 2 chances they had which Clarke missed but he was saying they could have won 4 - 1  I thought they had lots of the play without creating too much.

Although it was at the opposite end it seemed their centre half came clattering through Hughes to win the header that laid Hughes out, exactly the same in fact as Thomson's at Carlise when the ref gave a penalty.

They are also moaning about Clarke being a fat, lazy so and so but I thought he was their one player that caused us problems, Stam in particular, and he looked a cut above the rest of their players. I think to some extent we missed Gregan yesterday as there is no way he would have been pushed about like Stam was and he might have give Clarke a boot up the backside as well for his troubles.

  11. During his first spell with us I was living in Chadderton at the time and Neil lived on the same road, Poppy Close, Firwood Park for those that know it. My Brother in Law also bought a house a few doors down from us and lived opposite Neil & his wife for a good few years and they became quite good friends. A bit surreal at times to walk into the brother in laws house and see Neil Adams sat down having a brew :o. He was, and probably still is, a really nice bloke.

The goal I always remember was the goal against West Ham in the Littlewoods Cup semi. I think it was the first that night from just outside the box and that set us on our way. Top winger and good crosser of the ball.

  12. I don't live in Oldham but have sent an email to both Alan Hardy and Cllr Jones.

Copy of email to David Jones is below.

    Cllr Jones

I am sure you have received countless emails about last nights fiasco at the planning meeting for Boundary Park. I don't live in Oldham but travel from my home in Warrington to watch the Latics. At a time when Oldham is crying out for investment the planning committee have turned their noses up at a fantastic opportunity in exchange for a few votes at the next elections. To go against expert opinion is quite frankly staggering and made the council a laughing stock in front of hundreds of people.

As I say I do not live in Oldham, I moved from Royton 15 or more years ago but the lack of leisure facilities in the borough is beyond belief. Perhaps you and your colleagues should reflect on why this should be. Here in Warrington within a 2 mile radius of the town centre we have a first class rugby stadium which is used 7 days a week, a rock climbing centre, a 10 screen cinema, 3 council owned swimming pools, numerous private gyms with their own pools and gyms, a theme park, a ten pin bowling facility, a go karting track and the list goes on. What have Oldham built in the last 20 years. People like the investors at Oldham Athletic do not come along very often and to be treated in this way is a disgrace to the town and it's residents. To have a scruffy bunch of ill informed councillors be responsible for such a major decision reflects so badly on the town.

I am absolutely ashamed to be associated with Oldham after last nights fiasco. I would hope you can reconsider this application without the club having to finance an appeal and try and right the wrongs which were done to the town and its football club last night.

  13. the reasons they had for objecting the outline scheme were

The level of the resaleable / rerentable assets that the development has (some counciller worked out that there are 500 appartments retailing at 200k each generates 100million for someone)

I thought these were supposed to be flats for the nurses & wouldn't have thought they would be paying 200K for a flat overlooking a football ground.

Not sure however what this has got to do with planning permission. What business is it of theirs what these flats go for and even on the Cllr's figures the 200k isn't all profit as the build cost has to be knocked off.
