Will Buckley.....released by Latics at 14 years old.....I rang Latics about him again and Richard Tait when they were 16 and being the outstanding players on the field against League youth teams when playing " a year young" in Curzon Ashton's youth team in the FA Youth cup.
To be fair the club came and watched buttold me they were lacking in certain areas......scroll forward a few months, and you will see Buckley playing for Rochdale at Wembley and being transferred for 7 figure sums while Tait signs for Notts Forest before moving om and playing on conference play off winning sides and in front of 75000 at Old Trafford and 40000 at Goodison. Now first choice at Motherwell
My point is that it one thing having a top coach in TP but it is another thing having muppets as scouts for the youth set up. The best example is me being told that a keeper looked a top prospect but his parents wanted him to stay on into the Sixth Form so we weren't interested . Man CiTy enrol such talent at St Bedes in Manchester....
St Bede's, that takes me back. I played school football for Bury GS and we had a decent team but always used to get stuffed by them!

I like to give managers time, but this is farcical. Notts County have lost again today, so if the rumours are true and Sheridan gets the sack, time for another Corney-Sheridan Tesco shopping trip.

NNN, I was also at that WBA game. I remember being in the Chaddy End and at some point, can't remember when, maybe H/T, a line of WBA fans started running across the pitch towards us. I didn't think too much of it at first, then they got nearer and lots of people around me headed for the exits, so I temporarily joined them!
These are bleak days, but my Xmas present from my wife yesterday is 2 tickets v Port Vale next Monday with the exec hospitality in the North Stand included. In her case as a Masterchef fan she is going for Simon Wood's cooking, but I'll be there hoping for goals and three points, hope over experience etc.
I did point out we might be the only couple in the restaurant the way things are going.........

With respect, Opinions, I did not pay £21,give up my Saturday afternoon, and get soaked in the rain to watch my team defecate at Oxford.
-
We were utterly dreadful. I don't like changing managers too often, but for him to say that makes me wonder if he has lost touch with reality.
-
Apologies Monty and Fruitygoo, quite right, we played Stoke in April 2001. I stand corrected!
-
You are wrong about Norwich, I remember being at Carrow Road to see us well beaten, they went from L1 to"Premier" League in successive seasons, like Southampton. I don't remember Stoke being in League 1 so I think that's wrong.
-
As bad as the Sky "highlights" were, they weren't as bad as having to watch the advert of Skunkamore bigging up the so-called "Premier" League.
-
I went today and maybe the worst thing about the game was that Oxford were utter garbage, yet we were still hanging on for a point at the end - tells you all you need to know about this Oldham team. I've been watching us since my first game in 1965 aged 7 (QPR at home, won 5-3) and this is comfortably the worst Latics team I've seen, by a country mile. Barring a miracle in the transfer window and/or a change of manager we are relegation certainties.
Otherwise, the referee was a disgrace (I thought raising your hands to an opponent not to mention shoving him to the ground was a red card?); Fane should have been subbed after his first yellow (he contributed little, and was a red card waiting to happen from that point on); the midfield is hopelessly weak/ineffective; Erwin is on a par with Ladapo in terms of lack of ability. Our time wasting was also extremely blatant and embarrassing.
-
I wasn't sure whether to turn up (live near Cheltenham so Oxford just down the A40) but the news that Ladapo is injured is a clincher - I'll be there and I'm taking my neighbour with me as an honorary Latics fan for the day. We can surely grind out a tedious 1-0 away win - and we need to.
-
Like Big Dog I'm thinking about going as I live in Cheltenham, so not far away. I must need my head examining after Monday night, but surely we can't be that bad again, can we?
If Ladapo plays and repeats his mannequin selfie impersonation, I may have to invade the pitch and give him a red card.
-
Does Ladapo have any concept of the verb "jump"?

I remember going to Ipswich in our promotion winning season. Gloriously sunny April day, we won 2-1, both goals by Marshall. It clinched promotion to Division One, Portman Road has been one of my favourite grounds ever since.

Memorable games v York, Southport, Bournemouth, Bristol Rovers..... Big memory Shaw hat trick v Aldershot , 7-1 v Plymouth great atmosphere. Disgrace of toilets and seats in stands what seats?
I remember the 7-1 v Plymouth. If I recall it was 1-1 at half-time, and I was on the open terrace of the RRE, absolutely poured down in second half as we ran in six goals. I got home looking like a drowned rat and my mum went berserk. Said if I didn't go to school on Monday and tried to cry off with a cold/flu, there would be hell to pay. Happy days!

Who moderates the moderators? Perhaps a suspension for Ackey is in order for foul and intemperate language.

Contact has been made with Sheridan. I do not claim that this will end in his appointment, or that he will be more successful than Robbo. But at least the club appreciates the danger we are in.
Who's renewing for 2017/18?

Brilliant. It's this kind of bleak humour that keeps me going (not much else about Latics does!)>
