Corporal_Jones
Didnt we have the likes of Preston and Burnley and even City in this division 10 years ago all bringing around 4K, then they left and we had Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke bringing 3K even Cardif brought 2500. Had a lot more local derbys in the division also with the likes of Wigan, Bury, Blackpool, Hudds.. I dont think this years ave visiting attendence is much different to that of 5/10 years ago Perhaps-but the point being missed is that we don't currently attract enough support to make us a viable club. And, as has been proven already, we never will until we have a period of sustained success. In fact the problem is far more acute than it's ever been due to a variety of obvious reasons. My post was a direct reply to the question you and another poster raised about the number of visiting fans increasing
real
Perhaps-but the point being missed is that we don't currently attract enough support to make us a viable club. Agreed, us and most of league 1 And, as has been proven already, we never will until we have a period of sustained success. Agreed, us and most of league 1 In fact the problem is far more acute than it's ever been due to a variety of obvious reasons. Now, here's the sticky one - why is it more acute now? You seem to have accepted that gates are not the biggie you claimed, and funnily enough our boardroom seems to be a wee bit stronger than the days of Brierly, so, compared to 10 years ago, why is it more acute?? And why more than it's "ever" been? Are we talking since the days of Pine Villa or what?
Corporal_Jones
It's more than obvious why the problem is more acute now. For a start there's the massive gulf in financial terms that results from being outside the top two divisions, a gulf that widens with each season that passes, making it all the harder to catch up. It's a major part of our considerable reduction in status as a club over the past fifteen years or so. Secondly, it's more difficult to win fans back once they're gone now, given the vastly inflated admission charges, and considering the fact that you can watch world class football (or what purports to be so) on television several nights a week or, in our case, go to watch it live a bus ride or short car journey away, for not all that much more than it costs to watch our collection of has-beens, crocks and never-will-be's, and do so amidst facilities which are infinitely better. Aside from that, let's celebrate the fact that we're in as much of a dire state and lacking in success as most other clubs in our division-a not inconsiderable achievement fifteen years on from the Premier League. A pat on the back for all concerned. By the way-in what way is the boardroom stronger now than under Brierley? Sure enough the present owners are more dynamic, but they haven't managed to bring about any sustained progress on the pitch, and their off-the-field plans have been thwarted at every turn. The club is completely reliant on them maintaining their interest and enthusiasm, and stands little chance of getting an owner of comparable quality should they decide they've had enough. slurms mckenzie
I don't think that TTA will be celebrating a tiny increase in attendances considering a team in the top 6 for the vast majority of the season can't average 6K at home.
