  1. To be fair, proof was in the pudding. Seems it was a good enough kick up the arse for Allott to perform to a high standard...of which he did tonight. Shame for Maher...just hope he can see himself as part of a squad and stick with it...trying to keep players happy has been our downfall lately IMO (ala, Davies being given a chance over Lewis who only needed a wks rest IMO).

I guess we'll never know, but his response to being rested for half a dozen games was superb.

  2. Agree with most of that bar the Gregan bit...he was terrible in the 1st half. Out of position constantly, heading the ball directly up into the air a number of times and if he did get direction on it, it went straight to a Claret shirt. Only once we got the 2nd goal and they looked beaten did Gregan command. But sorry, you watched a different player tonight if you think that was a good performance from him. We were very lucky not to concede...but sometimes you need that bit of luck to become winners. Including Gregan who will get his form back, I'm certain of it. Tonight though, wasn't anywhere near his best though.

Like you say, he only looked commanding once the 2nd goal went in but it was bloody nice to see!

  3. Exactly! Why the hell are we worrying about Cheltenham

I'm not worrying about the opposition, just desperately disappointed with the lack of magic with this draw.

I'm sure that their fans feel the same but at least they're at home.

Promotion aspirations or not, a good run in the FA Cup is great for any team so at least it is a winnable game.

  4. I was disappointed with the defence but I think Crossley's backpass clearances were the real killer.

The first goal stemmed directly from the quality of the backpass from Hazell which was awful. Why on earth did he lift it instead of passing it along the ground? In fact, watch Hazell's distribution generally and he always puts people under pressure with his chipped passes.

  5. maybe some people cant lay there hands on £16 as easily as you can. or £27 in bb80's case, whether hes personally interested costs or not.

agree there may be other reasons, but as stated by someone else fans are easier to police if they are all together. if there arent oldham fans in the stockport stands on friday ill be amazed.

I've no doubt that there'll be Oldham fans in the home area on Friday and provided there isn't any trouble I couldn't care less.

I just feel that some fans made the decision to go in the home end as soon as the allocation of 2,000 seats was announced and didn't attempt to purchase an away ticket.

If finding £16 was the problem then maybe these fans would have been better looking for ways to earn a bit of pin money in their spare time rather than thinking up new and more elaborate ways to get turned down at the Stockport ticket office.

I'm sorry if I seem a little bit dispassionate to the plight of the fans without tiickets but this really does seem like a problem that could've easily been avoided.

  6. I would definately rest Lewis because he already looks a bit jaded less than a dozen games in. Ideally I'd play Davies as I think him and Hughes up top is our best combination. I can only hope that Davies has been a good lad this week and not upset the management.

I'd also give Byrne a run ahead of Lomax who's reacted to the pressure of someone breathing down his neck by putting in his least assured performances of the season.

There's no room for sentiment here. A point at Stockport is the least we should be looking for with their home record.

  7. I think the lack of respect given to referees is so far rooted, no highly publicised campaign will change it.

Just look at the Tim Cahill sending off over the weekend. I only saw the MOD highlights and watched as he put in a classic yellow card and a bit challenge. I continued to watch as he refused to acknowledge the referees calls and whistle (which, unless he was deaf he couldn't fail to hear) and eventually ended up with a red card.

I'm convinced that the ref made his decision based on a combination of the foul and Cahill's petulance.

Now, let's see who else picked up on this child-like posturing. Was it his captain on the field, in a position to usher him to the ref, respectful cap in hand? No.

Was it his manager, who could have remained tight-lipped to the press but clear to the player how he'd let himself, his club and the fans down? No.

Not even those celebrity greats of failed England (and Scotland) teams past, the MOD pundits acknowledged his behaviour.

No, I'm afraid that for as long as these preening, puckering 'footballers' continue to earn the sort of money that keeps the credit crunch in perspective, the only respect we're likely to see from them is the odd car park acknowledgement of their team mates' new wheels.

  8. For what it's worth I was in the RRE and never heard anything, I only heard IFG on the LW audio highlights after the game.

FYI Latic's have signed a deal with Apple to promote the iTunes back catalogue. To create a revenue stream they have had to: -

    i) ensure that plenty of airtime is given to the pimped wares by scoring shed loads of goals and;

ii) play the tunes at a volume level low enough to ensure that prospective customers don't get their popular music fix at the match.

Either that or Stu Vose is secretely dubbing 'his song' onto the LW highlights.

I will be all ears on Saturday.
