  1. First, let me say that I hate it when the opposition pulls the 'shielding the ball by the corner flag' trick and cringe when Latics do it.

To be fair though, I don't have to cringe very often. Let's put things into perspective, I've been to 8 out of 9 games this season (part-timer!) and out of those we've only done this in the MK game. At 1-0 up. With 5 minutes left. Against a dangerous side. With our reputation.

I'm all for entertainment but not at the expense of losing late points.

P.S. Players aren't allowed to wear watches and there isn't a scoreboard or clock at BP so if Taylor pulls a similar stunt in the final home game against Southend, at 1-0 up and about to clinch automatic promotion. Give him the benefit of the doubt, eh?

  2. Saturday's crowd was a step in the right direction.

As far as SC's comments are concerned, I can understand the sentiment. We're all pissed off that there aren't more Oldhamer's in the ground but I'm not sure he's going the right way about dealing with it.

To constantly criticise the stay-aways isn't going to encourage them to come along. Get some ticketing offers out there and bury the hatchet.

  3. The lad's got the best touch at the club and by and large does very well holding the ball up against bigger defenders.

His composure when finishing will get better with experience but for me, the one area he needs to improve is his awareness. Too often he's slow to react when the ball breaks near him and he ends up second best.

If he can work on staying focused for the full 90 minutes I'm sure he'll become the player his promise suggests.

  4. I think everyone needs to calm down a little bit.

No, I think YOU need to calm down!

    Only kidding. :D

Great start to the season but there's a hell of a long way to go. I liked Reuben's comment when it was put to him on LW that he would have taken top of the league after 5 games - "We'll, with 5 games to go, if we're still top of the league I'll be a lot more happy."

    You and me both Reuben!

  5. I simply don't get the fans that are shouting for Fleming to be our first choice keeper. Yes, he is a great prospect but Crossley has done enough over the last 9/10 months not to get dropped. Furthermore, none of us have seen enough of Fleming to make a true judgement on his ability.

A guy in front of me at Trampmere summed up the blinding stupidity of some Oldham fans perfectly. When Crossley made that great save to his left in the second half before booting his clearance out of play, this bloke got angry that he hadn't immediately passed to the right wing and then went apopleptic when he kicked the ball out to his left. I kid you not, it took him over 5 minutes to cool his jets with no mention of the previous save!

A 2-points winning save vs a poor pass. Where do these fans' priorities lie?

  6. This is so not :censored: ing funny. Too mess him up in the most meaningless game of the season is :censored: ing stupid.

This game may well cost us the better part of twenty points this season if his groin has gone.

I didn't realise that players were more susceptible to injury in the JPT. Surely he could have tweaked his groin after 22 minutes of the Tranmere match too?

At the end of the day, this was just 1 game from a season of 50. I'm sure that Hughes wanted to play and fancied himself to pick up a couple of goals (should've been at least 1). I'd also hazard a guess that Shez's intention was to play him against inferior opposition for 45 / 60 minutes with Davies to see if the old magic was there, with the intention of starting them both on Saturday.

For me, O'Grady does not look quite ready for a season in League One, although I'm sure that with hard work he'll soon put this right. Allesandra too has not yet (Millwall apart) shown us what he is capable of and seems a little off the pace. There's little doubt that the Davies / Hughes partnership is the one most likely to get us out of this division and therefore I can't argue with Shez's call tonight.

Incidentally, was anyone else disappointed that our 2 front men didn't hit the target with their penalties? I think some time on the training ground with old man Liddell wouldn't go amiss.

  7. I don't think that Shez wanted to go out of this competition but, I do think that he was a little naive / arrogant to think that he could change 5 players and our formation and still beat a team from a higher division away from home.

Personally I'm not too fussed, we all know that promotion has to be the keyword this season and at the end of the day the players who played last night will have benefitted from the run-out.

Incidentally, does anyone else think it might have been a different story if Lewi's shot on the turn had gone in?

  8. Richards will never be sold to United. When and if he is sold to somebody else he will go for a lot less than people generally talk about because, although he is good, he is overrated. The sums being talked about for a kid in an underachieving side are ridiculous and won't be paid, especially in the coming economic climate.

I agree that Richards is over-rated and to be honest, I'm not even sure what his current 'value' is amongst our fans.

However, one thing I do know is that the coming economic climate (is it cold and wet by the way?!) won't affect the greedy league.

That golden shower seems about as recession proof as they get.

  9. but we also need to remember that Chris Taylor picked up two cards in two games, which also needs addresssing by Shez - particularly as one of them was for dissent.

Get tough Shez - we don't want unnecessary bookings jeapordising a decent chance of promotion.

I'm all for stamping out uneccessary bookings but I don't think there are much grounds for criticism of Taylor's 'dissent' booking.

Don't forget, he got that one of an almost apologetic ref for celebrating his wonder-winner against Millwall. I'll allow any player a few of those a season.

  10. My brother and me thought the guy had had one too many lunch beers and actually found his lolling over quite funny. My girlfriend did later overhear the blond girl who was with him say that he had been beaten up but I assumed that was before the game. I hope the fella's alright but I wouldn't fancy relying on his mates in a time of need because it was the stewards who were concerned enough to get the club doctor.

  11. I've got to admit that his treble whammy (suspension, fine and loss of an international cap) is suprisingly harsh but fair.

I think it sends the right message to the rest of the squad and the fans that the club have taken his sending off very seriously.

As far as I'm concerned this issue is over and Davies, when available for selection, should be given the full support of the coaching staff, players and fans.

At the end of the day, a fully focused Craig Davies has been, and could become again, an enormous asset to the club.
