  1. Rather than being head and shoulders above the rest, Chesterfield's centre halves have been non league journeyman and probably earn less money than McGahey. For that reason coupled with the likely want for as much new blood as possible, I doubt McGahey will get a new deal. But don't be too surprised if he does..
  2. Think you're thinking of me. What I did was call bullshit on your labouring the point that McGahey couldn't ever feature in a successful non league side. Since then, following Altrincham away, the manager has singled him out as being "fantastic". McGahey can look clumsy at times and it might be that which clouds your view because he's a useful player in this division, if only for his versitality. Clearly Mellon likes him having firstly brought him back into the fold and then again following the Christmas Day incident alongside Reid. I'm sure that had McGahey played centre half for Chesterfield they'd have still won the division
  3. Good post. You have to wonder if there's something self-fulfilling about Mellon apparently telling the board early doors that many players on long & expensive contracts lack quality and character. These same players had enough to turn around a bad start and 'cement' their place in the play offs. They had enough to be 2nd in the away results table. They had turned a corner under Thompson, Mellon picked up the baton and we were picking up points and looking up the table for weeks and months. The subsequent capitulation and its manner is a disgrace and there's something more to the story than bad players. I was well on board with Mellon and can see how his CV warrants a summer, but the players seemingly downing tools is a huge worry. Halifax and Aldershot both getting beat today is added kick in the balls. I don't think I've seen mention of the play off windfall that's been passed up which could have been anything from modest to significant. The Rothwells must be absolutely spewing on every level and you expect a manager of Mellon's profile and credentials to not let such surrenders happen on his watch - especially on the back of letting him add a few not inexpensive signings.
  4. Not for this level of form it's not. In fact the squad exacerbates the failure - we have our frustrations and they're understandable but anybody in the game would describe our squad as strong for the division. Mellon should be sacked out of sheer bloody principle.
  5. He gets the bullet for me. Unforgivable collapse of form now over a sustained period. If the last 12 games were the first 12 then we'd be bottom of the league and deservedly so. The squad is no excuse. Get someone new in for the close season.
  6. Welcome to bottom of the league form across a whole quarter season. Useless cunts.
  7. It was a bizarre MOTM award though! Given his pace, strength and commitment I wouldn't be surprised to see Sachdev have a decent career, but at this very early stage of it he wasn't what we needed. He was woeful.
  8. I didn't quite describe it as worse I said "possibly more depressing". Is it 1 win in 12 that deyres42 quotes when knocking Sheridan? Well we're about to match it, but from 3rd or 4th in the 20-25 game form table, against a back drop of positivity off the pitch and widespread expectation of our first play off campaign in in 17 years. Expectation and outcome are poles apart this season whereas the relegations - certainly the one from League 2 - were hardly unexpected. Incidentally the outcome is identical i.e. next season in non league not League 2, only this time without a parachute payment or any novelty factor. There's some perspective for you
  9. Yeah it occurred to me when he went off that our slim chance of salvaging the season went with him. It was unusual to see a player signal to come off then carry on, albeit only for a few minutes
  10. 1 win in 11 which is nigh on quarter of a season. And the 3 score draws in that time all came from winning positions. Possibly even more depressing that the recent relegation seasons.
  11. Clutching at straws, our early kick off presents opportunity to put some pressure on Aldershot & Halifax who are both away from home..
  12. I'm not keen on him, but reason he'll be on decent money and that we could find a taker. If not then at least he should be of use, but he's been a big disappointment to date.
  13. If we can lose Shelton, Ward, Willoughby, Nuttall, probably Reid and possibly Lundstram then I'd be pleased. I am optimistic the remaining 11 or 12 could play a part in a successful squad.
  14. I think it would be enough too given the pressure it would put on Aldershot and Halifax, both of whom are away on Saturday. Not gonna happen though
