I'm pretty sure this is an accurate stat... Since 1966 the only "top" nation we've beaten in a knockout game of any tournament (ie final group game or knockout stages) is Spain in 96. And that was on pens after a :censored: 0-0. And they were :censored: then anyway.
Just highlights how little we've achieved in our history.
Saying that though, this draw has got me excited. Can't wait for the tournament now, should be a belter. Play some of the young uns Roy and let em go for it.

Agreed (although Telegraph says doesn't relate to PL). That said there'll be a fair few at other clubs who do earn that money plus the players who are fixing must be relative first choices.
Looks like they're all being held in Midlands.
I'd hate it if we were the particular club in question referred to in the video.
Can't see it being us, the odds on us conceding/losing wouldn't make it worthwhile! (When article was being put together of course)
Held in the midlands, concede a lot of goals, I know who my money's on.

No Mills or kusunga so there has to be 2 changes. Unless you mean you'd rather keep the CB pairing so same number of personnel changes but one less positional change?Thats too many changes to the defence.
Smith at RB with Rodgers in CM will do me. Bring Lanzoni on with 25mins left to build him up for a start at RB against Bradford with Smith moving back to the middle.
One for the stattos when did we last win 2 consecutive away games in the league?
Id still go for Lanzoni at CB as that would mean 3 of the defence will have played together a few times in some form at least. Decent problem to have though as I'd be happy with either.
-
Winchester or Smith at RB with Lanzoni at CB and Grounds going back to LB?
-
Please don't patronise me by explaining the English language Kieran. Let us move forwards, if you are going to the match tonight count how many times Wes plays a pass forwards of more then say 5 yards and I will count how many times he passes to someone who is behind him or to a team mate who has more opposition players around him.
As he isn't playing, hopefully you're able to put your efforts into supporting the team rather than compiling statistics to use in an argument against our own players.

A dossier is something anyone can do (Iv'e done it myself) you can tell Steve Eyre knows what he's talking about and it's about the nitty gritty not theories.
So you've read the dossier then to know its full of theories that anyone could do?
-
Compiling an impressive dossier on each of our players was what got Lee Johnson the job wasn't it? So we've already got a coach like that at BP.
I don't know if he'd improve us or not but I would guess there isn't a great deal left in the budget for extra coaches, if there is I'd rather it go into the defence where we're struggling with a lack of numbers.

Under PD the young players never got time and a 5-game run in the side and then were labelled not good enough. PD has been proved wrong with Tarky, Mellor and to a lesser extent Winchester and Millar.
Now we are saying that he needs to chop and change until he finds his best XI. Well I'm saying it's impossible to find a first XI without giving the players a chance to embed an understanding, which means sticking to an unchanged side where possible for a good few games.
I wasn't saying that he has to chop and change, just that I'm willing to allow him time to experiment.
-
People want him to pick his best team and stick to it. Yet ask everyone on here what the best team is and you'd struggle to get 2 people to agree.
For me it's a transition season with a new manager learning the ropes and a young team mostly on settled contracts. If we click by January and have a late run to the play offs then that's a bonus. If not then I'm confident we'll do enough to stay up relatively comfortably.
If we're having the same discussion in 12 months time then that's when to start to worry.
-
If you're listening to @bbclancashire online right now the feed will be switching to Mark Forrest as we're not allowed to stream games.
That's why.
Don't get that. Why can you listen to live commentaries on radio 5 and 5 extra but not local bbc radio online?
-
Despite far too many years of demoralising results I still get excited whenever we kick off. So the more games we play, the better. It's not that much more action for the players to cope with.
Add to that the fact that it's normally cheap to get in and the incentive of getting to Wembley without having to beat anyone from the leagues above and it's a "keep" from me.
-
and the FA Cup run shows people will come when whats on offer is worth coming too.
Well you say that, but we didn't sell out the home game against Everton!
-
You judge a manager by his signings and this manager HASN'T made a good signing yet, apart from the possible exception of Korey Smith and let's face it, he's hardly been great this season. I'm affraid the writing's on the wall. If we fail to beat Orient, we'll need 15 wins from the remaining 36 games to survive. That's a tough ask and it's not going to happen. We're going down.
I really shouldn't bite but...who should we have signed? I'm genuinely interested to know who you'd rather we signed instead of all these failures.

"Happy-clapper"... Where has this term even come from? Because it seems to describe someone who goes to a game with a smile on their face and gets behind the team by way of clapping.
Yeah, what a :censored:.
-
So if you don't think the club is in crisis you're a happy clapper? At the risk of sounding like me dad, Jesus wept.
-
Part of an 8 man subs bench today according to the OS. Might get his chance.

Time for excuses to stop , and the players to deliver 90 minutes of quality
Yep, if there's one thing you should expect supporting a team in league 1 with small crowds and little money it's 90 minutes of quality.
-
Unfortunately silly decisions and challenges comes with inexperience at every level. We have a very young side that's only had a few games together.
-
TBH I saw enough of rooney against wallsall and preston to conclude hes a carthorse.
I have watched him run,and believe me im using the term 'run'very broadly.
It's his goals I'm bothered about, not his running. 3 in 9 over a season is 15+ goals. Worth keeping him in for me seeing as he's had a few different partners already. This team needs time.
-
Sounds like we came into the game but rooney for one HAS to be dropped, now.
Sounds like? So you weren't there but are demanding a player is dropped? The top scorer too.
From what I've seen, heard and read we're not far off being a good side. At least we're looking like we can win games. It's just going to take time to gel.
-
All valid points Sheff but I'm struggling with the idea that our best player and top goalscorer last year suddenly became surplus to requirements a few games into the new season.
If Corney came out and said that we sold to allow strengthening of the squad then most people would understand and accept that, instead he pats us on the head again.
Kind of what he said isn't it?
“We knew there was a good chance Jose would want to go,” Corney added. “We prepared for that by bringing in Danny Philliskirk. We brought in Matteo, who is a very good prospect, a guy in Genseric Kusunga who was playing in the Champions League two years ago, Joseph Mills on loan and another goalkeeper, Paul Rachubka.”

Since I've watched England we got to a semi final under Robson, Venebles and have been unlucky not to progress in tournaments under Hoddle and Erikson. Yes we haven't won a tournament but its a complete myth that England are rubbish at football, many teams have not even qualified for a tournament in this time. On everyone of these occasions we were knocked out on penalties except by brazil in 2002. Even under Hodgson we were a penalty shoot out win away from a semi final after scraping a draw with Italy.
I'm impressed with the positive spin you've put on it, and I wish I could still feel that way - sounds like we've been watching England for a similar time (my first memory is the 86 world cup). But, I think I'm right in saying that since 1966 the only major footballing nation we've knocked out of any tournament - and by that I mean in the final group game or knockout stages is Spain on penalties in 96. And they were pretty poor then. And we were a bit lucky.
For the quality of players we have that's a pretty poor statistic and must be psychological.

Is there any reason that the "new stadium" could not just be a redeveloped BP?
-
I can't think of one English coach anywhere near qualified enough to take the national job. There's not even a good one in the prem.
Foreign clubs don't want our coaches, they don't want our players yet we still keep hearing how we've got the best league in the world etc. Bollocks.
We've got decent enough players to put a team together but until someone gets them playing without fear of losing it'll be the same old story. Limp through qualification, limp through the groups, edge a low ranked team in the 2nd round then lose a backs to the wall game in the quarters. At best. Can't wait.

Totally agree with this. I'm sure something will come out in future about behind the scenes. Over 200 (just) once in 4 innings and some of the methods of dismissal are embarrassing. And the foot goes off the gas repeatedly in the field.
