I am not, have not and will not experss my personal views on here as I dont feel I need to.

I am and will remain an Oldham Athletic supporter, despite the last 72 hours. I will still attend matches, I will cheer goals and I will still have banter with any of the fans that want it. My first impressions the first time I entered the Chaddy end was that of sheer excitement way back in the 80s. since than I have made many friends and hope to make many more. I would also say that the terrace sense of humour is one of the greatest things about it.

Please dont lose it.

I probably shouldnt, but will anyway make a plea to all those planning to no longer attend. Dont stop doing what you love!

Im going to be bluntly honest ....... All of us have made mistakes.... bad choices.... every single one of us, and we all in some way pay the piper. We have all done something morally wrong in the viewing eyes of 'others' no matter how small it seems to us. The petty shoplifters .... the drunk drivers, speeders the people who regularly park in the disabled spots, the adulterers, burglars, recievers of stolen goods, the drug takers, pushers, tax evaders, the uninsured. We have all done it and we have been judgedm not always by the court, but stuill judged. Those of us that manage other people at work would love to think that they are fair and a good person to work for, ask thier subordinates and that would telll a different story.

The man we are reported as signing is, without a doubt a prize idiot for allowing himself to do what he has done, he was sent to prison by a Jury of his peers and released as like with most offences, when the system deems them no longer a threat to society. Will Mr Evans re offend should be the question we ask, will he ?. If the rehabilitation of offenders act is in question, morally or otherwise then perhaps the peer pressure that the petition being signed by all and sundry should be aimed at that .... not at a football club that has acted perfectly legally.

My personal opinion is neither here nor there, this is not my opinion this is just me staying emotionally seperated from the subject.

There are a couple of threads in which fellow fans are calling for the head of the fans rep ..... Again irrelevant of my personal opinion ... is this right ?

The title of this thread reminds me of a column that appeared years ago when FourFourTwo was a fledging magazine.

 

 

Chris England (writer of "An Evening with Gary Lineker") is a fairly passionate Latics fan, and one of his regular columns wrote about the phenomenon of Clubcall (you can see how dated this is!). The article went on about how this terrible service was advertised on the ITV teletext pages, with headlines flashing next to clubs names and the extortionately priced phone numbers.

 

You would see the title flashing "Graham Sharp - Out!", and against your better judgement you would dial the 0871 number at 60p a minute to find out what was going on. 10 minutes of listening to other articles about the club cat, and the fact that the lawnmower needed new blades you eventually get to hear the big news story.......the story you have just spent £6 on your phone bill to hear.....and its "when we called Graham Sharp for his weekly interview he was out walking his dog".

 

Ah the heady days of only hearing about the club from the programme at the game, the Chronicle and this overpriced and terrible service. Those born after the internet don't know how lucky you are.

Oh the joys of Clubcall .... back in the day working in Macclesfield I had to work late into the evening and Latics were two legs awat from Wembley and up against West ham and above all it was St Valentines day ...I stormed around work like a bear with a sore head ....sulking as I was about to miss the kick off ... when I realised 0898 12 11 42 ... I sneaked in to my office and dialled .... and dialled and dialled .. around a month later the bill arrived and I casually signed it off thinking I had got away with it .... You dont want to know the rest as I am so so ashamed ....Karl you took one for the team !!!!!
