  1. Mossley played some great football, both goals were great play. Darlington were very poor, it was more silly mistakes that let them in early on from the no.5 who seemed to be only playing centre half because he was tall. Rowney looked good. It's a shock though to see players like Tommy Wright and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson plying their trade in the Conference!

    I agree bloody freezing!!

Its the 4th highest ground in England

  2. My mate and i arrived 15 mins before the match having bought a £5 ticket earlier using the voucher in his season ticket. My mate discovered that his match ticket was ripped out from his season ticket book. He hadn't done this so it was a bit of a mystery. We went to the main entrance with the glass doors and explained the situation to the guy on the door. He disappeared inside and came out with a new ticket for him to use. Latics could have easily refused us entry as for all they knew we could have given the ticket to someone else in the hope that we would get another free ticket.

The club were excellent in this situation. If they had refused then we would have both just gone to the pub and i prob won't have returned to bp again.

    Well done Latics

What exactly have Latics done? You got in so whats the problem? Your having a go for no reason. If anything it should be a thread about how kind Latics have been.

  4. I wouldn't, we don't need them we have stuff already. I'm looking a building responsible right now, its a Passport office. Driving licenses have pics on them, credit cards have names on them. In my wallet right now I've 5 things on with my name on them (where my name isn't hand written/typed), 3 where it is, and 2 things with my name and pic on (one of which is my driving license) why do I need something else?

Like I said it doesn't stop people commiting crimes, especially acts of terror. The 7/7 bombers all had passports, (and I bet a few had a driving license too). ID cards won't prevent crime, if they were to become mandatory it is a tax, one which is unecessary. OK it might make some people a whole load of money- the passports have to be printed somewhere (incidentally its in Oldham).

    How would you stop terrorism?

The only way you can stop them is more security. Security in airports has got a lot better. Only taking a certain amount of liquid for example. Not enough is done to stop terrorists on trains for example and in the majority of public services.

  5. LOL. Health and Safety was a v.good thing when it was brought in and on death certificates there is still a tick box which is something like could this death be as a result of occupation. Meaning those people with mesothelioma who worked with asbestos, the miners and their lung cancer plus a whole host of other lung diseases can get the compo they deserve. A lot of health and safety is also public health related (and this is currently in vogue) like the smoking ban etc.

However, some of health and safety does treat the general public as idiots because sometimes sections of the general public are idiots. What health and safety don't do is distinguish between those people who take unnecessary risks because they are idiots and those who take risk because that's human nature. I'd be more than happy to see "No win No fee" lawyers banned but unfortunately a member of parliament (I think he is/was a Tory) is a "No win No fee" lawyer and acted in his own best interests.

The scrapping of ID cards is a very good thing though- as I don't know about anyone else but I carry quite a few things with my name (and sometimes a picture as well) on in my wallet. Making it complusory to carry one thing seems ridiculous when most of us carry that anyway- it won't stop terrorism (I'm fairly certain the 7/7 bombers had passports and some probably had driving licenses too) so why waste the country's money on it.

How would you replace ID cards? I think they help in certain circumstances e.g when we are getting on a plane they know who we are. Obviously they can be copied but they are trying to stop that.

  6. I think Barnet*, Macclesfield Town, Hereford United, Aldershot*, Accrington Stanley, Hartlepool United, Bristol Rovers and Carlisle United could have arguements about being worse than ours, but I struggle to think beyond those.

More worryingly is half the teams in the Conference/Non-league have better facilities than us now, if not more.

[*] I havent been but from the pictures I've seen.

Most grounds in league 1 are similar to our ground amazing even Sheffield Wednesday ran out of food. Also you can't judge on grounds you have not been to.

  7. All England games to be shown on terrestrial TV.

Terracing at all professional football clubs.

Wage cap in the premier league and football league.

Premier league clubs buying players from English clubs instead of aboard.

Every team having at least 8 English players.

More lower league football on TV (league 1 and league 2).

footballers happy to play first team football at lower league clubs instead of going in the reserves of a premier league club.

  8. A couple of those little things:

    1. A sensible smoking policy. They let you smoke at the back of the stand at Peterborough and more or less turn a blind eye at Charlton. I deeply resent paying £20 only to be told by some jobsworth steward, who's only doing his job (not a proper job) that you can't even smoke in an open area away from the stand.

    2. Home fans move to the RRE. Why people stick to the Chaddy is beyond me. Brentford fans had no emotional trouble moving to their new stand, they just moved because it's better.

    3. Standing areas. I really enjoyed standing at Peterborough.

They shouldn't let you smoke anyway. Glad they are doing a decent job at latics while other clubs might not be doing.
