  1. Looking at the planning application they are not really doing a great deal with the spectator stand unfortunately which is a shame as the viewing angle is utter cr*p and needs raising. Its just the hotel, part of the block on the pavilion side and back few rows. I can't imagine it'll be too hard to pause construction and secure off the building site for when England play and they will want top capacity, but the rest of the summer when lancs will be playing they can just shut off that part of the stadium and make life easier for themselves.

  3. Bumped this after seeing the state of Wigan's pitch tonight on Sky after the opening Super League game. Anyone who thinks our pitch could stand up to use by both the towns rugby and football clubs is dreaming!! The pitch at BP is a shambles with just a game every other week at the moment

This has always been common knowledge that pitches get annihilated yet somehow people think it just won't be an issue!

  4. Rugby League abandoned it's traditional winter season , so there is only a short period of the season when both teams would be using the surface ........and it is not in the worst months of the year.

But there is work they do every summer when rugby league play??

Its not so much the pitch is getting pummelled by rugby for me, more that they do annual maintanence. Can Roughyeds provide a workaround for that?

  5. The one I use is

Includes old grounds and foreign ones as well so a bigger area. Doesn't matter what game you go to as long as its a visit, after all there are very limited opportunites to see grounds if you are sticking to watching Oldham.

I'm currently at 40. Going to be hard to see many new ones this year though. Burton being the only real new one. Been in this division so long and there hasn't been much new moving in...

  6. Firstly - I'm convinced there won't be a future of Storm in Alty. I think Silverblades know this too. Sure maybe staying at Altrincham is a cheaper bet for them, but it is still only a semi-permanent rink and will require investment of some sort with it being uncertain still about altair. No, I think something else is going to happen on this one and it does relate to our Phoenix friends. Theres a long way still to go on this imo, but the best thing is Manchester Phoenix aren't the top team in Manchester anymore. At last we can start moving forward.

I'm not sure it'll be the smallest one either, I think Dundee has a similar capacity.

Nope. Elite League play against each other.

Not exactly. There are two conferences of 5. Each team plays the other in their conference 4 home 4 away and in the other conference 2 home 2 away. This is working pretty well so far to be honest and is doing the job intended when it was introduced to try and reduce the gulf between the arena clubs and the rest.

Theres also a cup competition. Format on that is a lot more pointless as its 2 groups of 5 with 4 going from each group into a quarter final knockout stage. More info here.

  7. I stopped going to Phoenix because it was a ball ache to drive over to Altrincham and spend £14 to get a crap view with a dire game experience. It will be the same with Storm playing there. If and when Phoenix get a city centre rink I will go back. The only pull Storm would have is that they would be playing in a league with a higher standard of hockey, although this means that they will get destroyed all season long.

I dunno if they will, they will likely get most of Hulls signings who weren't recruiting badly. The competition will also be largely the scottish teams. By the second season (when Phoenix will likely actually have a rink) they will be in a position to be a bit more competitive and for the conference which I think they will do. The bigger issue is definitely Altrincham, which I am hoping Silverblades do not settle for.

The thing is about Phoenix if they ever did return to Manchester, it will still be EPL hockey run by a clique of a club that largely treats its fans like crap.

  8. You know a simple way to have consulted the fans would be for the turnstyle operator to ask "would you be willing to relocate to the RRE next season" with a tick box because Chaddy enders are the only ones who need to be consulted

Bollocks. Now we are finally on the verge of getting back to 4 stands, something has to give. If its not the Chaddy, its the RRE. Its what the fan base as a whole want.

I remember back in the early 2000s and before when only the small section of the RRE was utilised. In reflection, that was a disgrace. The RRE is clearly the best superior stand and it wasn't being used properly...

  9. Theres obvious indicators why video replays won't work and hold up the game. For a start, look at other sports that use it in a similar fashion. Both in cricket and rugby there have times when replays get used and it still doesn't get the right decision even though the guy in front on the screen has 3 minutes worth of replays in front of him. Also in football, how many times has a decision been given and pundits still can't come to a conclusive call at the end of the game? The fact is the decisions that will come from replays are far too objective and for every clear cut bad call the ref gets surely you'd get twice as many closer calls which will highlight the issues?

Goal line tech works, even if FIFA had to get tv companies at the world cup to use it needlessly to try and justify the cost and appease the developer...
